A medieval limestone castle, with a private Romanesque swimming pool, surrounded by a beautiful 5 acre garden, blossoming with an orange and lemon orchard, fields of vegetables and exotic plants. A wall surrounds the whole garden and is lined by olive trees, keeping it all private.
The castle is situated in a little village, walking distance to local shops, and half a mile from the little lively town of zurrieq. The sea is in short driving distance, the blue grotto is an incredible place to swim with caves to be visited by boat.
The house sleeps 12, and there are 3 bedrooms in the turrets of the castle, an amazing view of the garden and surrounding area can be captured from the roof of the house.
One week minimum rental period, Saturday to Saturday.

Stayed here for the 4th time - this is the sort of place you want to come back to time & time again. The architecture is magnificent & the interior design fits it perfectly - I get serious floor envy when I see the lovely old tiles upstairs & marvellous limestone flagstones downstairs.
The garden is a paradise of cascading plumbago, bougainvillea & jasmine with cypresses & olives, designed in a classical, formal layout so you can wander from space to space as if walking through a series of beautiful rooms. The pool is heavenly for children while the elderly can wander around plant-spotting. Teenagers loved the roof-top rooms in their own mini-turrets.
It is immaculately clean & very comfortable throughout, with wifi, TV & a sound system for indoor time. It is also a very short car journey down to the best snorkelling in the world at Wied-iz-Zurrieq with its delightful (and cheap) fish restaurants overlooking the sea & Filfla Island. Everything is beautiful cared for by a lovely housekeeper, Diana, who is on tap to help should help be needed but otherwise leaves you to yourself.
Really, a dream historic house that is a mini-paradise - worth every penny. Can't wait to go again.
We stayed at Bubaqra as a group of 5 adults and 6 children and found the tower to be an amazing place to stay. Walking through the gates is like entering your own private oasis.
The property and grounds were very clean and well maintained. Diana, the housekeeper and her husband, Leonard were very helpful with organising transport and giving advice during our stay. The owner recommended Matthew to do some cooking for us and he was fantastic - the food he cooked was amazing and the kids ate more than ever before - we would definitely recommend him to anybody wanting to sample traditional Maltese cuisine.
Everything you could possibly want or need during your stay is provided at the tower, making it a truly relaxing place to stay. We would recommend it to anybody wanting to visit Malta especially for a larger group. It looked wonderful in the photos on the website and was even better in reality - everything we could have hoped for.
We were a family group of 11, with one granny; two teenagers and one of 11. Holidaying together is an annual event and this year we chose Bubaqra.
We chose well - the tower is stunning, the grounds expansive and the pool big enough for us all. There was plenty of space for everyone to sit at either table in the garden, but our favourite was under the shade of the bougainvillea, just outside the large kitchen. The spiral stone staircase is impressive, but could be an issue for some and the 3 single rooms on the roof are not as pleasing as those inside.
Matthew (local chef who needs booking in advance) is a dream, creating delicious masterpieces under our very noses! The housekeeper Diana and her family are wonderful, friendly and really helpful. We chose the very reasonably priced option to be met at the airport as we arrived on a Saturday afternoon. Very thoughtfully Leonard suggested we stop at the supermarket on the way there so that we could pick up essentials for a meal that evening, as the hire cars weren't arriving until the following day. There was nothing Diana and her family weren't able to help us with during our stay. The house is very well set up and everything is provided from ice blocks to keep your shopping cool to sun hats to keep you cool. I very much appreciated not having to buy every single thing we would need during our stay from extra loo rolls to salt and pepper! Shops are a short stroll for all your needs and great swimming and dining just 15 mins by car at the Blue Creek, providing you ask Diana how to get there!
We arrived during firework season, which was great entertainment of an evening, sat on the roof of the tower, with a glass of wine watching the truly amazing display of fireworks exploding all around us. The one daily 8am firework, wasn't appreciated quite as much though!
Look out for the chameleons in the garden and time your visit right and enjoy warm figs from the trees around the pool - what more could you hope for on top of everything else this amazing Tower has to offer.
Spent a very enjoyable week as a group of 11 (5 middle aged and 6 young adults) at Bubaqra. The accommodation, pool and pool area, and the surrounding gardens etc were out of this world.
We celebrated our Silver Wedding anniversary whilst there and enjoyed the culinary delights that Matthew had to offer. It certainly was a night to remember. Having Matthew to cook was a real bonus and his prices are very reasonable.
Diana and her husband Leonard were always on hand to offer advice and support for shopping and trips. Diana is an absolute treasure!
Each and every member was very impressed with the entire stay and I would definitely recommend this accommodation for other large groups.
We have been to Malta many times in the past and didn't feel the need to do much sight seeing, so it was a great bonus to have somewhere so wonderful to spend our time.
I sincerely hope to visit the castle again in the future.
We were three families - 6 adults and 4 kids - having a wonderful stay at Bubaqra Tower. The tower is an amazing place - no problem to imagine youself 400 years back in time. Except for the facilities itself - all up to todays standards. We were also impressed by the local managements willingness to support us on any matter we raised - small or large. Higly recommendable to any large group!
We were 3 families that decided to have a vacation on Malta. We first saw the Bubaqra Tower on the Swedish television as this was the accommodation for a game show with some of Swedens top athletes. We had a great time on Malta and at Bubaqra Tower. We were 6 adults and 6 children and Bubaqra Tower really is a perfect place for a large group. The Tower has a fantastic atmosphere and it is easy to image the old knights having this as a as an observation point to spot an enemy approach by sea. If you do not feel like cooking I can recommend hiring Matthew as a chief for an evening or two. When you are not exploring Malta you can relax by the pool enjoying a bath or reading a book in the Maltese sun.
