About The Owner

I grew up spending weekends and summers in this house, retreating from the urban demands of San Francisco. I have had the chance to raise my own children in this timeless place. Inverness remains a magical place that I hope will always be a place where I can retreat and unwind.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1963

Why The Owner chose The Bay Area

This is a second generation family vacation cabin. With all the fabulous memories and the continued attraction to the area, we want to keep this treasure in the family.

What makes this cabin unique

Staying at this house has always meant a slower pace of life. There is deliberately no TV or internet at the house. There are book, board games and sports equipment. It is truly a place to take a time out from the fast pace and constant accessibility of our lives today. TV and internet are available nearby but the need to be intentional about accessing them keeps me honest about truly being on vacation. Tennis courts and Tomales Bay are within 2 blocks of the house. Foot paths in the area provide easy access to all of Inverness. Nearby hiking trails and fire roads offer even more choices for encounters with nature and spectacular vistas.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic time at the cabin. It's kind of perfect in every way. Loved the deck, your decorations, the hammock. We'd really like to visit again some time. Thanks for everything!

A very lovely place to stay in Inverness

  • 5 of 5

This is a comfortable, cozy rustic home with a big wrap-around deck. All the amenities of a vacation home make it a very nice place for an afternoon/evening gathering, and it has room for eight people to stay over comfortably. Everyone enjoyed hanging out on the large wrap-around deck. There's a long flight of stairs from the road to the house, but cars can drive down a steep driveway to unload and deliver anyone who has trouble walking. In addition to the two bedrooms in the house, there are four beds in the sleeping cabin, two each in two areas but no door between the areas. I'd definitely come back!

Wonderful vacation home to get away from it all...

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and had a wonderful time getting away from the hustle and bustle of it all. The house is in a great location - about a 20 minute walk into town and just steps from hiking trails that take you through the backwoods of Inverness. The deck is a perfect compliment to the home and gets a lot of day time sun to allow for breakfast, lunch and dinner outdoors. Our 1 year old was with us and the house was very baby friendly. All in all we had a wonderful time.

Comfortable, spatious and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The charming house is in a convenient location in the town of Inverness, one can walk to the library and the town store in about 15-20 minutes. The house is comfortable (although the kitchen is narrow, it meets all the basic needs), and the guest cabin is a wonderful additional space. The best is the huge yard with apple and pear trees, a big hammock, and the wrap-around deck, and the feeling of peace, restfulness, isolation and spaciousness from the beautiful tree-covered hillsides. There's no cell reception at the house, but a brief walk to the tennis courts downhill brings you to an area with reception for those who just must run and get their fill.

Authentic Rustic Cabin in Inverness

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we drove onto the property we knew we were in the right place. Dipping down a steep grade into the property you have the feeling of privacy and a mini compound adorned with a main cabin, a sleeping cabin, decks galore, stacks of firewood, hammock, an apple and pear tree. The main cabin is perfect for fires, wine, reading, cooking and eating. Everything you need is there, even great books! We brought our dogs and we're confident letting them roam the well fenced in property. One of our favorite features was unplugging from everything. No wireless and no cell service. Complement that with a hammock for the perfect afternoon!

This is a perfect place for you if you want to unwind and if you want a stay in a homey cabin that is authentic and original. This is not your manicured experienced with all things perfect just for you. This is a rustic authentic experience that has the evidence of stories of the many others that came before you. And, that is part of the charm and why it's so easy to relax there.
