About Dan and Anne Patterson

Dan and Anne - married for 13 years with two great kids. We enjoy spending time at the dune home, the area beaches and parks (especially morning hikes on the dunes and beach at nearby Lake Harbor Park), and boating on Muskegon Lake, Spring Lake, and Lake Michigan.

Dan and Anne Patterson purchased this house in 2014

Why Dan and Anne Patterson chose Norton Shores

We bought this property first and foremost for the wonderful location in the dunes along Lake Michigan between Muskegon and Grand Haven. The neighborhood is beautiful and safe with friendly neighbors, private beach access, a great neighborhood park with playground, basketball courts and tennis court. The house is well built, very spacious and comfortable on a beautiful lot with mature trees and elevation change. Plenty of room to entertain and relax.

Nice place for 5-6 people

  • 4 of 5

Overall a pleasant stay. House accommodates 5-6 adults well. Owners were attentive when a couple of minor issues arose. Nice beaches were a 5 minute drive away. House needs a little attention in some minor areas. No screen door on the sliding glass door leading to the back porch area which meant we let a few insects in. Same for a few windows. But these did not detract from a nice time spent there.

Dan and Anne couldn't have been more gracious nor accommodating. The house and yard are gorgeous, clean and well cared for. The beautiful and clean hot tub was enjoyed by all the adults and teens. Plenty of family living space on the first floor for tv watching or games or reading. Our son in law, in from Denver but working online, was even able to close off the small room with table/chairs near laundry center, to do his work whether we were in the house or at the beach. The master bedroom is ginormous with a sitting area and a beautiful view of the yard. The other 2 upstairs bedrooms are adequate and the double beds with bunks are great for little ones to be above mom and dad. We also utilized the downstairs bedroom with the winding staircase for the single girls, which was clean and comfy. Plenty of towels for showering and for the beach. The area beaches are beautiful as we tried a different one each day. Stores close by for groceries, etc., As we had 12 of our family there, the gorgeous washer and dryer came in very handy, especially with several little ones and all the dirty towels.

You won't be disappointed in this lovely private retreat in a quiet neighborhood where you can enjoy walking or riding one of the many bikes they provide. They even provide all the necessary beach gear and a wagon for the little ones to ride in to the neighborhood park.

Couldn't have been more pleased!! Would highly recommend!

Stayed August 2018. Great property for hanging around without stepping on one another's toes, and perfectly positioned for exploring the parks and the beaches. Loved it.

Lovely family home in a quiet neighborhood, close to the lake!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family stay. We enjoyed walking to the beach and all the amenities. Dan and Anne are very responsive and helpful. We wish we could have stayed longer. If you're visiting during the summer, we recommend The Deck restaurant at Pere Marquette beach & Craig's cruisers for family fun.

Wonderful week!

  • 5 of 5

Anne & Dan Patterson were great hosts as they met us when we arrived to show us their home. They were available at anytime if we needed. The home is roomy and comfortable. The kids enjoyed the hot tub, the fire pit and riding bikes in the quiet neighborhood to the park. The beach at Pere Marquette is a perfect place for families and even has a dog beach! We had a marvelous week. Thank you so much Anne & Dan.

Everything you need for families with kids

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Dan and Anne's place! My family and 2 other families get together every summer for a weekend away with our kids. Between us we have 5 kids ranging in age from 18months to 5 years. The 3 bedrooms upstairs were perfect for our 3 families. One family used a pack and play and another a twin sized air mattress and each family had our own room. The bunk beds were a huge hit with the 4 year olds who got to sleep on the top bunks! We didn't even use the 4th bedroom in the basement. But it was a huge selling point when booking.

Other reviews mention the amount of stairs and how hard that is with little kids. There are definitely a lot of steps in this place but we made it work. We blocked off one set by the foyer so there wasn't a lot of running around and falling down the 2 steps there, and we put a chair in front of the spiral staircase leading to the basement bedroom that we didn't utilize. With those 2 places blocked off we were good to go even with the youngest kiddo.

The kitchen was nice and big and had space for our group to work around each other during mealtimes. It was nice to have a dining room to all sit together for dinners too. The best part of inside the house was the huge movie room. There were a few times we put on a movie and let the kids chill out while us adults actually had conversations. That room was an awesome play space for the kids away from everything else and had lots of room for them all to make up imaginary games etc. The best part of the outside was the back patio/deck area. The outdoor space was so nice. There was plenty of space for the kids to play and for the adults to hang out too. We turned the hotub down in temp one day and the older kids "swam" in there for a couple hours. The firepit was lovely as well and we were able to enjoy a really nice fire once the kids were in bed.

One day we planned a beach day and went up to Pere Marquette park, only a 15 minute drive. The beach there is amazing. Not too crowded even for a perfect summer day in July. There's a playground and restrooms and concessions all available right there. We had a great day at that pristine beach.

Overall, everyone on our trip was very comfortable and enjoyed our time there. Plus, Dan and Anne were very responsive and incredibly nice to work with. We highly recommend the Patterson's place for anyone with or without kids!
