One-Of-A-Kind Historic Western Property

  • 5 of 5

This property was just as expected and just what I was looking for. Spacious property and schoolhouse. Lots of history and information about the area in the building. Very comfortable - I had to use both the heating and cooling during my stay. Could easily accommodate 8 people. The kitchen is large, up to date and well-stocked. The surrounding acres are fenced and great for dogs. We were visited by deer and rabbits every day. Amazing view of the Big Horn Mountains.

The owner was helpful and very accommodating.

I would recommend this property to anyone looking for history, peace and quiet and the solace of open spaces.

Amazing Historic Spot in the Big Horns

  • 5 of 5

The Stone School House was a perfect spot for my husband and I during our trip to the Big Horns. Just a few miles down from the mountain, both the historic portion and addition to the house were beautifully built and included all of the amenities we needed (including a coffee grinder). The unique space of the original schoolhouse, historic photographs and books were an added bonus to our morning and evening views of the range sitting on the back porch. John was a gracious host who gave us some wonderful tips about spots in the mountains and also accommodated a change in our reservation with ease. We hope to return again.

p.s There were only the two of us but if you had a larger group or family this space would easily accommodate with the original house and addition's ample space and a conducive layout while still providing some privacy.

3 generation vacation

  • 5 of 5

Great location, great view, it was a memorable vacation and we would stay there again in a heart beat!! We loved the history of this place. My mom shared stories of her one room school days and we also talked about the stories my grandma had told over the years as well. Thank you so much for sharing this rare beauty! In just 3 short days we went to Shells Falls, Devils Kitchen, Buffalo Bill Center in Cody, Hot Springs in Thermopolis and drove the Wind River Cannon.

Rock School House

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed meeting John, the owner. He helped us with discussions on places we wanted to see and how best to get there. The house is interesting, quiet and secluded. The star gazing was incredible!!! John may want to consider how to get some air conditioning to the loft area, it is very hot at night, even with outside temperatures in the mid to high 60's . We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the property to other folks. Thank you John for pie and ice cream!!!

Great place to stay, filled with history

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful place to stay, rustic yet modern. What a unique adventure to have had the opportunity to stay in the school where my ancestors were educated. It had all the amenities we needed, the wifi was great. Great sleeping accommodations. The kitchen is great and the view from the desk is fabulous. On a short walk we saw an abundance of wildlife. The owner is exceptional and very responsive. Even had pie and ice cream in the freezer for our arrival. Highly recommend.
