Looking to explore the Chianti region of Tuscany with all the comforts of home and more? This newly refurbished accommodation (all on one level!) in a Tuscany villa has it all! The owner, who lives on the estate in the family villa, is American and she's furnished the villa in Tuscany to American tastes. So relax or dine on the covered terrace, hike through the woods across the country lane, explore Certaldo Alto with its Pretorio Palace, or take a day trip to Florence and beyond! There is another large apartment on the lower level, as well as Villa Sella, right next door (with its own pool), and Villa Certaldo, near the owner’s villa.
The home comprises the ground level of a newly renovated canteen, originally constructed in 1939 by the grandmother of the current owner of the estate. The building was used for wine production for only a few years until the breakout of WWII at which time it served as a safe hiding place for those desperately attempting to avoid capture by the Nazi forces. The main villa of the property lived in by the owner of the estate and his family was occupied by the Nazi Officials and used as their base for this area of Tuscany in July of 1944. The owner’s family escaped by foot, walking for more than two weeks to the property of a relative near San Gimignano. There is a hand dug WWII hideout in the hillside next to La Vinaia, as well as two other hideouts in the 25 acre nature reserve comprised in the estate property.
The home is identical in floor plan and amenities to the La Solaia, as this structure contains both rental properties, each completely independent from the other and occupying separate levels of the two story building.
The home is reached from the parking area just a few yards from the private front yard. Six steps lead to the covered porch where a terra cotta bust of the Roman Emperor Caracalla overlooks the outdoor dining area furnished with table and chairs. This loggia provides the entrance to the home from its arched double door glass entrance door.
Due to the unique construction of the building, La Vinaia is the coolest of the properties on the estate in the warm summer months of Tuscany. The underground level below the home still houses enormous wine vats and a large hand dug underground canteen (25m l x 7m w x 5m h) which was used to store the wines produced.

Plan to stay at the property and hang out. It's a great location. This villa has all the amenities a US family would expect and want.
Use a GPS. Call the owner, she is very helpful in finding it, especially the last few turns, which are poorly marked.
