About John Cooksey

Annie and John Cooksey met at church camp and 1985 and fell in love a year later. We have been married for 21 years. John is a video producer and owner of EliteVideo dot com, a video training company. Annie homeschools, but years back she was 'Sparkle the letter clown' for the PBS series 'The Letter People' We moved from Connecticut in 1991 for the nicer climate, fresh air and friendly people.

Why John Cooksey chose Arkansas

We have had success with our first vacation rental here in town and we were looking along time for a secluded private house with a nice yard and plenty of parking that was also close to downtown.

When we found this house bordering on the national park with trails 300 feet away we knew this would be the one.

What makes this house unique

5+ bedrooms, Close to historic district. Family friendly quiet neighborhood, Plenty of parking. Porch for everyone to sit out and relax. Low traffic road. Two story house.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

The place/house is great. Its very conveniently located near historic downtown, bathhouses, shops, etc. The house is very roomy and can easily accommodate up to two families with 3 children each. There is a BBQ grill, nice little front yard and a deck in-front as well. We had a good time in Hot Springs except the weather where it was raining for 2 days straight non-stop so we had to cancel most of our outdoor activities. oh well, you can't do much about the mother nature :)

John (the owner of the house) is very kind and helpful. He is an excellent guide as well if you are looking for places to visit and things to do in Hot Springs. Thanks John for your hospitality, we hope to visit again some day.

Regards,

-FM

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a nice getaway spot that had plenty of space for visitors. I wanted something quiet and homey, and this house was perfect. Clean, spacious, and comfortable. There are lots of places to tuck guests.

John and his staff were incredibly helpful and really know the area. They had recommendations on pizza delivery so I could easily feed my crew. The manual about the house was informative and had useful suggestions on how we could make the most out of our stay. Great experience!

Colorful Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in Hot springs during the fall season. And the added flavor was the Ramble House. The house is spacious, clean and a mile away from the Hot springs downtown as listed. John is an excellent host who gave us such a brilliant ideas to roam around the city. Though it was raining we got to visit very beautiful places to see fall colors as the location of the house is very convenient. The house is full of amenities that you would need during your stay. Dishes, basic spices for cooking, coffee, mugs, toys for kids, board games, books to name a few. I would 100% recommend Ramble House for the bigger group in Hot Springs.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house was great, There was plenty of room and it was close to downtown. . John was a nice host and we liked having breakfast on the front porch each morning. It was clean and spacious and we enjoyed that it was close to the small downtown. There were board games in the house and even enjoyed the teather ball even though we had no kids with us.

Great local

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here as a group of 5 couples. It was just right for us. We liked that it was so close to so much activity. John was very helpful and available anytime we needed him. Most of the beds were comfortable. Kitchen was fully stocked plenty of towels. Porch was great for our group. My only complaint was baby roaches in kitchen and TV upstairs doesn't work John said he was going to take care of these issues for future stays. We would stay there again. Thank you for your hospitality John.

Owner's Response: Thanks Kim, The TV upstairs is now with a Roku box, with a Hulu subscription, along with 100+ other channels. The baby bugs that showed up. have been hit with the big gun exterminator and have gone away for good! Look forward to seeing you again sometime.

Ramble House in Hot Springs

  • 2 of 5

When going to Hot Springs, one of the first things that should greet you is a nice cold glass of water especially when your have driven 7 hours on the hottest day of the year for three years. There was no ice in the freezer, no ice cubes, no trays to make ice. There was a cooler for water, but no water. The house was clean on the upper level, but behind the living room chair was mouse droppings and there were mouse droppings in the kitchen drawers. My first day I spent reading and every time I went to let the dog out, John was standing in the front yard looking at the house or watering. (Note: he lives next door) Privacy went out the door quickly. If this had been a hotel, I would have gotten my money back and gone to a better one. Since it was already paid for, I was stuck. That evening my kids arrived and he was out in the front, so he visited with them and promised to bring a sprinkler for the little one. That gave him the reason to be in the yard moving it around. He had another guy with him who he introduced as his "tree guy." The door had a code which he set, so the question arises was he inside when we left a few times. No face soup. The shower had a soap dispenser in it, attached to the wall, which only squirted out a little each time. There are signs with orders on it everywhere all over the house. You have a check list of all the things you MUST do at leaving. The pans you use have to be inspected for damage. They have to be left on the stove. Very, very disappointed. The linens were worn to a ridiculous amount.

Owner's Response: Her response was soley because I got a call from the resort cable company fraud division that an illegal download of a movie "Jurrasic World " that is still out in theaters was downloaded through the wifi.at that house. (first time this ever happened at the house for me) I called her about his a day later . He said her 21 year old son could not have done this but was on his laptop. . I told her this is a serious copyright violation and had to hold their security deposit for a week until I cleared it with the cable company. Luckly I didn't need to get a lawyer. It can be a serious offense as the movie was still out at the movies.. She was angry about this. and, making no mention of the things in her review ever on the phone or during her stay.. She got her deposit a week later. Its even hard to imagine that she was unhappy with her stay as we chatted during their stay and got the sprinkler for her grandson hooked up the next day.. About signs everywhere- You can watch the video of the house and see there are no signs anywhere except for wifi code and garbage day.. We had bar soap for her, Laundry detergent. dish detergent etc. I live next door and the tree guy certainly does not have the code for the house! Sorry - we don't fill ice trays for health reasons, the guest does. . The guests were nice and smoked on the outside porch. We have people leave the pans on the stove as they have been put away dirty from other guests in the past, so it prevents this. The check out list does not say you "must" do these things, it is a guide for checkout. . The linens are 0-3 years old at most. So odd that she would say that. If you want more soap out of the dispenser, you have to press twice. Sorry. that is the way they are made. There certainly were no mouse droppings, That would have certainly been brought to our attention. from them , or anyone else. I feel for her frustration of having to wait a week on the security deposit. But The movie issue was quite a serious matter and I will take steps to secure the wifi from that somehow in the future if I can. . Please read our other reviews for your assurance, I really think you will enjoy the house during your stay. .
