About the property

Luxurious Victorian Farmhouse with Horse Barn and Guest House Also Available

Located along a trout river in a small village in the heart of Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, the Fuller Farm is the ideal place for your family vacation, especially if the finer things matter. Kids and horses welcome!

The Fuller Farm is a grand Victorian farmhouse that was purchased at auction and now is completely renovated. Originally built in the 1800’s, the owners have outfitted the home with modern conveniences with an eye towards preserving its original grandeur.

The farmhouse sits on 17 acres, with the original rustic 3 story horse barn intact. It has the look and feel of the past with the amenities needed to make it the perfect four season getaway for family and friends.

The Fuller Farm has a large eat in restaurant quality kitchen perfect for gathering after a day of enjoying some of the many activities available in the area. Head out to one of the crystal clear lakes for swimming, fishing or boating late spring through early fall, or ski mountains or snowmobile trails winter into spring. Horseback riding is popular in the area, with many dirt roads and scenic trails, plus the Orleans County Fairgrounds just down Park Street offers horse shows and equestrian events throughout the summer and fall.

The Fuller Farm has 4 large bedrooms plus a huge sleeping loft for your kids that is accessed by a hidden staircase -- no kidding!

The master has a separate 3 room suite that includes a library with thousands of books, a coffee station fitted with microwave, fridge and Keurig machine, a king size bedroom with a 42" Flat Screen TV and a bathroom with dressing room and skylights containing a large jetted tub and rain head shower.

The large second bedroom has a queen size bed with built ins and the third bedroom has a double bed with a large walk in closet. There are 3 baths -- in addition to the master, there is one with double sinks and a tub with shower upstairs and another with a commercial washer and dryer with shower downstairs.

The hidden 3rd floor loft has a large Sony 60" Smart TV over the gas fired wood stove plus a set of bunk beds, a bean bag futon and a sectional couch that can easily accommodation 2-4 kids. There is also a futon couch directly below in the large queen size bedroom.

On the main level, you'll find a custom built restaurant quality kitchen with granite counter tops, stainless steel and butcher block, a 6 burner gas range, deep fat fryer, and large gas grill on the back porch. You'll find plenty of seating between the high top butcher block table in the kitchen, the bar set on the first of two wrap around porches and the formal dining room table.

The first floor bedroom is the smallest of the 4, but also very accessible, just off of the dining room with easy access to the full downstairs bathroom.

There is also a lovely den with river and pasture views and a living room with large sectional couch, 50" Flat Screen, Blue Ray and Playstation. There is wifi and cable through out the house.

Should you wish to host a large event, the farm's three bedroom Annex Guesthouse is available as a separate rental and The Hanson House Retreat Center (200 yards up the road) has an on site catering kitchen and event barn available for additional fees (as well as 5 more bedrooms).

Located within 30 miles of both Jay Peak and Burke Mountain, both of which offer world class skiing and snowboarding, the Fuller Farm is the perfect country getaway with all the comforts. The VAST trail which run into Canada crosses the property and the Orleans County Fairgrounds for those wishing to participate in summer activities such as horse shows, craft fairs and 4H without having to camp out is a stone's throw away. Leave your cars in the yard and walk a few hundred feet to avoid parking fees at the Fairgrounds!

Spacious Old Victorian Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

My family had a lovely time staying in this spacious old Victorian Farmhouse. It had plenty of room for our family of 8, (5 adults-3 kids).

We were visiting Barton VT for a family reunion and only needed extra sleeping space. Our meals and activities were planned by our family reunion members at a home a few miles down the road. Consequently, I wasn't shopping for food or cooking meals in the home; but, the kitchen appliances all looked to be in excellent condition and I'm sure I saw one of every small appliance you could possibly need. The refrigerator was very spacious; so, if you wanted to shop for food there was plenty of storage space.

We needed two rental cars to get around in Barton and surrounding cities. We even crossed the border into Canada, (don't forget passports). Many of our activities planned by our family reunion members were a far distance from the farmhouse. We didn't get to use the resources available closest to our rental this trip, maybe next time on our return visit.

The owners, Tim and Cheryl, came over to greet us, answered all our questions, giving us a brief history lesson about the farmhouse. They are both very friendly and accommodating. My family enjoyed meeting them, their dogs, and horse. Thank you Tim and Cheryl for your hospitality, my family and I hope to return in the near future.

Plenty of room for family

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at this house for a week in early 2017. We were greeted by the owners who announced that they had just arrived home from an extended visit out of country, so that set the tone for our stay. PROS: We cooked some great family meals and had plenty of room for board games at the table. The kitchen was spacious enough for 4 of us to work at once (although the lack of freezer is a bit unusual). Plenty of sleeping spaces for our family--as well as bathrooms. It was great fun to see the horses on the property. CONS: This is a house in which the owners move most of their personal items out of while vacationers stay there. It was not a rental property per-say--it was their home that they partially vacated while we were there. For example, in the master bedroom all of the drawers and closets contained all of their clothing (note--they did leave room in the master closet area for us to hang items.) As a matter of fact most all of their closets contained their personal items. The main entry door contained a large basket that housed many of their shoes, TEVA's, flip flops, etc. The master bath was filled with their personal items--including their meds. In addition, the house was not as clean as I would have expected. The open kitchen cabinets were all dusty. Before using any items we rewashed them--from dishes to glasses to mugs to wine glasses. Most noticeable was the dog hair everywhere (I cleaned quite thoroughly before our family members arrived the next day). Also, the amenities listed included a hair dryer so I didn't pack one. I communicated with one of the owners (they were staying in the apartment connected to the house). The owner brought over a VERY dirty dryer and told me that it was no worries to use it as "it was from their dog grooming kit"--obviously I did not use it. Overall, we had a great time staying with our family (they were gracious enough to allow our dog to come as well) and we were able to have fun, but for the money it was a bit disappointing. We booked the home a couple of months out--not spur of the moment, so they certainly knew of our arrival date. Possibly they did not arrive home in time to clean and prepare for us? Possibly our expectations were too high for such a rural property in Vermont? From reading other reviews, other folks didn't seem to have these issues so maybe others will find the house better suited for a week's vacation.

Charming old farm house with a lot of character.

  • 4 of 5

Great location for snowmobiling, VAST trail is right outside your door. Good Homestyle Breakfast & Lunch Restaurant within walking distance. The owners were friendly and very accommodating. This place is a step back into country living where people are friendly. We had two dogs with us that enjoyed meeting the Horses next door. We would recommend to anyone for vacation or weekend getaway.

Great way to experience small town living in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont

  • 5 of 5

This house is a fabulous find in a beautiful part of Vermont. Staying at Fuller Farm is a really unique opportunity. The home has a spectacular sense of history, yet is carefully renovated to include almost all the modern conveniences. It is off the beaten bath, yet close to an incredible number of scenic, adventure, culinary and cultural opportunities. We were able to walk from the house to Crystal Lake State Park, two excellent restaurants (one was more of a food truck and farm stand, but still great), a grocery store and pharmacy. There was even Chinese food delivery! Pretty good for a town of less than 1,000 people! We took day trips to Canada (a fabulous spa in Bolton-Est and Montreal), went to a theater performance in an opera house that straddled the border, swam in Lake Willoughby and several nearby swimming holes, took a boat cruise on Lake Memphremagog, and drank excellent local beer and hard cider. The kitchen was a dream. We really wanted to bring the six-burner Garland stove home with us, and it was a pleasure deciding which beautiful pottery to use at each of our meals. Eating dinner on the huge wrap-around and screened-in porch was wonderful, and drinking coffee in the morning on the back porch with the horses for company was also very special. The rain shower and Jacuzzi tub in the master was enjoyed by all of us--even those not staying in the expansive master suite. The kids play room and loft was a huge treat for the kids--especially the enormous flat screen TV with Play Station. But the kids spent most of their time outside, and there was plenty of space to run and play in both the front and back yard. We did not figure out exactly how to access the river from the house, and we were not able to find a freezer (although the kitchen had an enormous commercial refrigerator). However, we were so busy enjoying ourselves, we never took the time to call the owners to find out. Spending a week at this beautiful property is something we will remember for a long time. We highly recommend it for both its amenities and its location, and felt like it was an excellent value.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting our Vermont relatives for as long as I can remember. Our ( my ) family has grown over the years and as welcome as we are, there is still a part of us that does not want to burden our kin. This gem of a place is the perfect answer when the 6 of us need to travel at our own pace. These friendly folks offer a wonderful solution to the traveler who wants the nostalgia of our rural yesteryear coupled with the amenities of our own homes. If you want quiet bucolic settings, its where you are. If you want an internet busy world, just turn it on. Eating out for breakfast is just walk down the road. Antique hunting is also just a walk down the road. This place is as stress free and as rural as any dream. It welcomes you like a home, without all of the chores.

The property is well maintained and I would recommend this home to anyone.

We will be back.

About Tim Marschke and Cheryl Potter Marschke

Cheryl Potter is a fiber artist and author, but is best known as the founder of Cherry Tree Hill Yarn. She has a BA from Middlebury College and an MFA from the University of Arizona.

After earning her Master of Fine Arts degree, Cheryl began dyeing yarn and designing garments an old milk house on her farm on Cherry Tree Hill in East Montpelier, Vermont. Cheryl and her husband Tim currently spend their time between Barton, Vermont and Prescott, Arizona.

Tim Marschke and Cheryl Potter Marschke purchased this farmhouse in 1999

Why Tim Marschke and Cheryl Potter Marschke chose Barton

Not everyone wants to renovate a 5000 square foot house with a falling down barn, but for us it was the perfect project -- absolutely huge on acreage along a trout fishing river. It had great bones but needed a lot of love. As we had horses at the time, we fell in love with the 3 story horse barn that you could ride into at any level. It even had a high drive! We knew that when completed, this farmhouse would be the perfect place to host events at as well as to have vacations.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The Fuller Farm is unique in that it is a large 4 Season Getaway centrally located in the Northeast Kingdom.

It has acreage, a guest house, a horse barn with box stalls and heated tack room and is located on 17 acres but still considered to be "in town". Guests are able to see the beauty of the Northeast Kingdom in it's entirety while still enjoying the peacefulness of the country.
