About Tom Jackson

This farm has been in my family since Thomas Jefferson was president; I inherited in about 1980. We have transitioned from tobacco, cotton and commodity crops (which I rent out to a neighbor), to stainable farming of alliums and fresh herbs.

Tom Jackson purchased this cottage in 1812

Why Tom Jackson chose Cape Fear

Why stay here ? Because we guarantee no TV, no telephone, no newspaper, no radio, and no internet connection, but we do provide a house so private that the shower is on the screened porch overlooking the pond (if you don't want to soak in the large claw foot tub in the bathroom), a fireplace with cured hardwood supplied, and two miles of private woodland trails, a small library,as well as a private fishing pond with boat. Where else can you find this ?

What makes this cottage unique

Privacy, peace, quiet.

Beautiful cottage with amazing porch

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay! The property itself is lovely and we caught many fish in the pond near the cottage. We also loved the screened in porch and outdoor shower. Tom was an excellent host and was very accommodating. Highly recommended!

Most peaceful trip we have ever taken.

  • 5 of 5

I am a little afraid to say what I really think about this place as once people find out how great it is........ it might stay booked up all the time. Lol. Great Fathers Day weekend trip to Jackson's Farm. Probably one of the most peaceful trips that we have ever taken. Beautiful 100 year old cabin with a wrap around porch situated in the middle of 10 acres (in the middle of a 100 acre family run farm). No TV. No internet. Pond for fishing right in the front yard. The house is fully stocked with great little touches like handmade soap, popcorn, tea, chocolates and a French press (after the owner showed me how to use it and the coffee grinder). Big ole claw footed tub and a fabulous outdoor shower. (Our youngest 4 year old daughter took like five showers in two days...lol) The people who run it live across the pond and are beyond nice...came and started our grill, picked flowers for our kid upon request, sent us a bag of new potatoes out of their garden for lunch (and butter....lol) and pretty much let us have the run of everything for two days. I even borrowed my book taken from the cabins small collection with instructions "not to hurry" and their mailing address. We will definitely be back again. House is surrounded by birds and frogs which the kiddo spent hours trying to lure closer to her. I really cannot say enough nice things about this house or the owners. Lovely and charming.

Our stay was just what we needed

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was just what we were looking for...rustic, small, charming, and relaxing. The scenery was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay. Tom was great and easy to work with - we definitely want to return in the fall. Thank you for a wonderful night to unwind.

Blissful Serenity!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and did not want to leave. This property is beautiful with its flower, herb and vegetable gardens, as well as, a perfect fishing pond. There is plenty to do and see if you like the outdoors; or, just stay on the porch sip a beverage, read a book and/or swing in the hammock. We caught catfish, crappie, brim and bass (big enough to strip my reel several times). The house is spacious, well kept and very inviting. When in the house, we spent the majority of our time on the large screened in porch watching the beaver swim in the pond, the squirrelly antics in the trees and listening to the birds singing. At night, the frogs and crickets lull you to sleep. It rained one night during our stay, which was wonderful as the house has a tin roof. Tom and Jan were the epitome of hospitality. This place reminds me of my great grandparents homestead... simpler and happier times.

They provided everything from fresh floral arrangements to salts for your bath. We lacked for nothing and found our visit to be exquisitely relaxing and refreshing. A bit of nostalgia with new memories made. We plan a return trip in the fall. Highly recommend this location!
