A two-bedroom house with large screened porch overlooking a farm pond and located on a 10 acre wildlife preserve adjoining our 100 acre farm. We offer comfort, quiet, privacy, woodland trails and fields for walking and bird watching, and a pond for fishing. The house is particularly suitable for a couple or small family. We guarantee no TV, no radio, no telephone, no newspaper, but include a modest library and comfortable reading chairs, electric heat and air conditioning, fireplace with wood furnished, kitchen with microwave and refrigerator ( but no stove), washer, dryer, outdoor grill (charcoal furnished). So private that we put the shower on the screened porch, but the bath has a claw foot soaking tub. All linens and other necessities furnished.
This farm has been in my family since Thomas Jefferson was president; I inherited in about 1980. We have transitioned from tobacco, cotton and commodity crops (which I rent out to a neighbor), to stainable farming of alliums and fresh herbs.
Tom Jackson purchased this cottage in 1812
Why stay here ? Because we guarantee no TV, no telephone, no newspaper, no radio, and no internet connection, but we do provide a house so private that the shower is on the screened porch overlooking the pond (if you don't want to soak in the large claw foot tub in the bathroom), a fireplace with cured hardwood supplied, and two miles of private woodland trails, a small library,as well as a private fishing pond with boat. Where else can you find this ?
Privacy, peace, quiet.
Great place to relax and enjoy nature. Very enjoyable screened porch- great for coffee and a book in the morning.
This cabin was just what we were looking for...rustic, small, charming, and relaxing. The scenery was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay. Tom was great and easy to work with - we definitely want to return in the fall. Thank you for a wonderful night to unwind.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and did not want to leave. This property is beautiful with its flower, herb and vegetable gardens, as well as, a perfect fishing pond. There is plenty to do and see if you like the outdoors; or, just stay on the porch sip a beverage, read a book and/or swing in the hammock. We caught catfish, crappie, brim and bass (big enough to strip my reel several times). The house is spacious, well kept and very inviting. When in the house, we spent the majority of our time on the large screened in porch watching the beaver swim in the pond, the squirrelly antics in the trees and listening to the birds singing. At night, the frogs and crickets lull you to sleep. It rained one night during our stay, which was wonderful as the house has a tin roof. Tom and Jan were the epitome of hospitality. This place reminds me of my great grandparents homestead... simpler and happier times.
They provided everything from fresh floral arrangements to salts for your bath. We lacked for nothing and found our visit to be exquisitely relaxing and refreshing. A bit of nostalgia with new memories made. We plan a return trip in the fall. Highly recommend this location!
This is a working farm in rural eastern NC where the major crops are cotton, tobacco, soybeans and other commodity crops. We grow sustainable alliums and fresh herbs.
