Holiday in Monouth
A lovely barn in a tranquil part of Wales. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the barn was generally very well equipped and comfortable.
I would like to thank my recent guest for his 5 star review. I am very pleased to hear that he and his party thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The barn is well located, being a short walk to Wales where the River Monnow is the England/Wales (Herefordshire/Monmouthshire) border. The historic town of Monmouth is just four miles away being in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Wye Valley. The Royal Forest of Dean is close to Monmouth with it amazing scenery and amenities; trains, lakes, bike hire and walks. My guests would be very welcome to stay again at any time, should they so wish.
Very enjoyable stay
A lovely place to stay. The property is very well maintained and I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in this area. Very clean with a well equipped kitchen. Hope to come back one day.
Beautiful rural retreat for family get together
This was our first time staying here. The reviews of previous return visitors were very encouraging and I can see why people come back. The house is very spacious and has everything you will need . It has great communal spaces and is beautifully decorated. We had fabulous weather and there is a lovely garden with good views and a terrace area to enjoy a sundowner or two. Nearby there is a river which is good for paddling in and a wealth of places to easily visit by car. We were a family with 3 children and grandparents staying for a long weekend but could definitely have stayed much longer. Claire the owner was very welcoming and there was a generous hamper waiting for us and lovely fresh flowers on the table.
I would like to say a big thank you to my recent guest for her 5 star review. I am so pleased that she and her family enjoyed their stay. We are very lucky to be surrounded by beautiful countryside. The River Monnow is a stunning feature being the border here between England and Wales. I am also pleased to hear that the Welcome Pack was a hit. I try very hard to make the barn comfortable and welcoming. If you would like to
stay again at any time please let me know and I will check my calendar for you.
A beautiful property in a tranquil setting.
We had a wonderful stay at this excellent property. It is very well-equipped and the welcome basket was much appreciated, thank you. Well located to explore the Wye Valley and surrounding beautiful countryside, we would recommend this property very highly, our only negative being that we couldn’t stay longer!
I would like to thank my guest for his 5 star review. I am very pleased to hear that the welcome basket was appreciated. We try to include local produce as far as we can. The barn is very well located in the Monnow Valley and only 4 miles from Monmouth which is in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Wye Valley. Thank you for recommending the property, this is very much appreciated. Perhaps you could stay for a longer period next time you come as you would be very welcome to do so.
An amazing property!
As a group of very dear friends, we have been enjoying weekend breaks throughout the country for almost 20 years and The Old Orchard Barn must be one of the best we have stayed in.
It was stunning to look at and the location was perfect with beautiful views over the countryside.
The welcome hamper was a very thoughtful touch and it set the scene for the rest of the property. We wanted for nothing, plenty of equipment and beautifully clean.
We didn't get a chance to meet Claire but we had no need to except for passing on our compliments and thanks.
We can fully recommend this wonderful property to all.
Regards & thank you.
I would like to thank you for your lovely review. I am so pleased that you found everything you needed and, yes, we are so lucky to be situated in such lovely countryside with walks from the door. Once again thank you for your lovely comments. I, too, am sorry not to have met you and your friends, but please do let me know if you would like to stay again , you would be most welcome. Claire
P.S. Thank you so much for leaving the property so very tidy; it really helps!
Lovely place to spend time with the family celebrating our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Excellent location for country walks, first class accommodation, everything you need supplied and even an introductory tour and welcome basket.
I would like to thank my recent guest for his lovely review. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your Golden Wedding Anniversary celebrations at my accommodation. I really enjoy giving guests a tour and I find it helps them understand where everything is so they don't have to spend too much time searching . Please do come again you would be most welcome. Claire
This converted Grade II listed 18th Century stone threshing barn is situated 4 miles from the historic border town of Monmouth, in the picturesque Monnow Valley. Monmouth, the birthplace of Henry V and Charles Rolls, is in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the Wye Valley. Close by is the beautiful Royal Forest of Dean. The Cathedral City of Hereford, on the River Wye, home of the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library(www.herefordcathedral.org/visit-us/mappa-mundi-1), is about 16 miles to the North and Ross-on-Wye, the birthplace of English Tourism, is some 10 miles distance. The Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park are within easy reach for the enthusiastic walker, with Brecon and its Cathedral close by, less than an hours’ drive away. The Glamorgan Heritage Coast, Cardiff Bay, Swansea and the Gower Peninsular are also within easy reach for glorious days out. There is some beautiful local countryside surrounding this barn with lots of footpaths and many walks. En-route there are some lovely country pubs and fine restaurants, eg The Bell at Skenfrith (award winning).
