a nasty and uncomfortable rental - next time I will choose a hotel !

  • 1 of 5

The photos and most reviews promised a pleasant stay, but the reality was much different. The townhouse was very dirty and in poor condition. Many things did not work: no WiFi, no working microwave or dishwasher, and the AC was so weak the second floor did not get cool. The main bathroom is a Hazard: there is an outlet over the sink (one of a few electrical violations I found). The master bedroom bed is old and uncomfortable ; most windows either do not open or slam shut once opened. The shower is terrible.

We called the property manager to fix the WiFi and she said they would but it was not done. There is a patio and seating in the backyard but, like the rest of this rental, it too was dirty and unkempt.

Reviewer Comments:

We had a very nice stay at this property. It is in a lovely, fairly quiet- amazing for DC- location not too far from the metro and the mall- a long walk but doable. It feels just like staying in somebody's home because that is exactly what it is- right down to the family photos and extensive book collection. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans; I will say that we ended up washing just about every pot or pan we used first, because it seemed as though they hadnt been well cleaned beforehand. The apartment was fairly comfortable, intriguingly furnished. The lighting is absolutely terrible- we pretty much felt like we were sitting in the half-dark in the living room. The other negative was that the master bedroom has one of the least comfortable beds I have ever slept in. But overall, a pleasant stay andI think quintessential is a good word for it- it looks lik what you might expect a capitol hill home to look and feel like, which was fun.

Reviewer Comments:

My family and I stayed at this lovely property this Spring for a DC getaway. We were looking for something other than a pre-packaged hotel-type stay and this was the first time we ventured into the realm of short-stay-rentals. We were more than pleased. The house is exactly as depicted, was very clean and was ready for us upon arrival. We were very comfortable. The house has its own unique personality which we liked. We used the Wifi but did not watch much TV. It was a big deal for my kids of course, that they have Wifi. We got a lot of use out of the kitchen and the patio. It was nice to save a bit of money and prepare our own meals - although DC has a lot of great places to eat. This neighborhood is kind of sleepy but getting to the Metro is easy and we loved taking day-trips and then coming back to this home at the end of the day. Capitol Hill is an interesting, historic neighborhood and honestly you could spend a week just exploring this neighborhood (Capitol Hill is actually a huge neighborhood in the city). This trip was especially great for our kids as the trip was part fun part history lesson. We really enjoyed out stay and would state that staying at this property really did help facilitate an "experience" which is what was advertised, and what attracted us to it in the first place. Based on our experiences here we will look into renting a house or an apartment for our next trip as well! Kudos to LUXbnb for the welcome guide they gave us before we arrived. Lots of cool local tips that we would not have gotten out of the guide books we bought (but did not really use). Great stay. Good value. Would consider staying here again if we come back to DC.

This is a great place to stay when visiting DC. The home is very comfortable and is so convenient to getting around to the tourist sites either by Metro or walking. As a bonus, you can walk to historic Eastern Market in five minutes where, on the weekend, it is the place to be with hundreds of food and craft vendors. I would highly recommend this home for anyone visiting Washington DC.

Heart of Cap Hill

Great space in a great neighborhood in a great city! Staying at this property allowed us to really experience DC in a way we would not have been able to if we stayed in a hotel or even a B&B. Our family found the home very comfortable - within just a couple of days we felt like locals! You really don't need a car as public transportation is the way to go in this city. We day-tripped our entire stay and still did not see a fraction of what the city has to offer. Eastern Market was a special bonus. Truth be told we would love to live in this house and we were sad to leave when the trip ended.

The property itself is classic DC and classic Capitol Hill. Not a large proeprty, but enough room for a family of 4. The house has a lot of interesting artwork and decorations that gave it a personal touch without being overbearing. The place was clean and ready for us when we arrived. We didn't watch TV much, but the WiFi and cable were in working order. We were here at the beginning of April and got a lot of use out of the back patio. DC in the Spring is unbeatable! The pre-arrival package we received helped us navigate as soon as we got in the city.

We would stay in this house again. The property owner seems to have a number of places so we would actually be keen on exploring what else is in the catalog as well ;)
