About the property

Private 1-Bedroom Guest Suite

Do you come to our fair town for short or extended stays? Do you work hard and long most of the time you’re here? Do you crave comfort and quiet in a stunning location at the end of the day?

Or, are you a solo traveler seeking a safe and gracious accommodation while on your way to your next destination?

Or, are you a retired professional looking for a no-worry, all-inclusive pied-à-terre in Knoxville?

Small-is-beautiful living at its best: gourmet kitchen, fireplace, jetted tub, handheld and rainfall showers in the bath. Fully furnished and provisioned 1-bedroom apartment in large Mid-Century Modern home set into the trees and boulders of a historic marble quarry that sent marble by barge on the nearby Tennessee River to construct the National Gallery (1937-1941), when it was the world’s largest marble structure. Guest suite is on ground floor with accessible, entirely separate entry steps away from one off-street, dedicated parking space. Emphasis on good design and a warm, welcoming minimalism in an open, flexible floor plan of 500 square feet.

Stay in this peaceful, unique, completely private and sublime setting of water, woods and rocks, just like the mountains but only 5 minutes away from the city center, the University of Tennessee, the UT Medical Center or Cherokee Farm—10 minutes from the airport. Guests in the past three years have included writers, theater directors, physicians and scholars. Standard rates of $750/week or $1,890/month all inclusive. Special offers for longer stays and repeat guests; please inquire.

About Property Manager/Owner

We are a builder/artist and a musician/writer married for 39 years who are both in the midst of preparing for some degree of retirement from full time professional occupations. With the recent renovation of our large home, our goal is to provide our guests a beautiful, quiet, comfortable, safe and serene place for rest or study. We are also conscientious in terms of energy efficiency, environmental safety and sustainability since we believe that every person must do everything he or she can to contribute to the stewardship of our world. We live here at Blue Note Garden and make every effort to ensure your stay is a pleasant and productive one.

Property Manager/Owner purchased this apartment in 1998

Why Property Manager/Owner chose Knoxville

We found Blue Note Garden just after selling a 17-acre horse farm on the West side of town. We loved the barns and seven-gabled Victorian Gothic farmhouse we built on that property but we also spent a great deal of time repairing farm machinery and mowing pastures.

While we miss the farm and all of its animals, Blue Note Garden has no grass to mow, four seasons of wildflowers, and the house is as solid as the rock it is built on. We cannot imagine living anywhere else.

What makes this apartment unique

Quiet, peaceful and yet so close to town.

Amazing construction and design with breathtaking views of waterfall and woodland gardens.

Completely separate, private entrance at ground level to all-on-one level space. Floor to ceiling windows in every room while also being highly energy efficient and soundproof. Fire alarm monitoring and professional on-site emergency maintenance. Dusk to dawn lighting. This large home is one of a very few built in Knoxville in the mid 20th century of solid concrete and set into the excavated space of a historic marble quarry. Nearby public park, boat dock, tennis courts, fitness center, storage units and walking trails through older, hilly, quiet, safe neighborhood.
