Big tip that will make your vacation planning easier: reserve your vacation rental before you book your flight because they are easier to find than accomodations in Maui.

ABOUT THE PROPERTY AND STUDIO

Our private and clean 600sf studio nests in our quiet, peaceful land named Mana Aina that means the power of the earth in Hawaiian language. Mana Aina sits on a privileged spot in beautiful Haiku, enjoying the purest oxygen that comes from Hana wrapping around the national tropical forest that sits on the side of the Haleakala [dormant volcano]. The views from the studio go into and beyond our 12 acre matured park.

Our studio is clean and well taken care of so you may enjoy a wonderful stay. The rental is made of bricks and painted stucco walls, tile floors, and high beam ceilings. As soon as you open the sliding doors, you are standing on a 12 acre park covered by a lush landscape with ornamental trees, tropical plants, seasonal fruit trees and flowers.

Our fruit season is during the summer months, there is no fruit during the winter months. Please keep in mind that we have a small orchard and sell our fruit, so if we are having a fairly good fruit year and we happen to have enough to sell to the grocery stores and restaurants, we are happy to occasionally gift some fruit sampling to our guests. If you wish to purchase fruit from our orchard, I'll be happy to show you what we have available.

To tell you a bit more about the property, on the ocean side of Mana Aina there is a 50 acre forest. On the East side we have a big gulch with a seasonal water stream coming down from the Haleakala's rain forest which goes all the way down into the ocean where Jaws located [one of largest surfing/windsurfing waves in the world]. On the Haleakala side we have another 50 acre property as quiet as ours. On the West Maui Mountains side we have East Kuiaha Road which is a very quiet road.

DETAILS ABOUT THE STUDIO

The studio has a queen size bed and a full size futon couch/bed, and we may add more beds if needed.

We have a child's highchair and crib available.

We provide linens and towels.

The dining table sits 4 people.

The full bathroom is private and enclosed; it has a large tub/shower for you to take comfortable baths, 1 toilet, 1 bidet, 1 sink, and we provide 1 roll of toilet paper.

There is a phone in the studio available for local calls.

For internet access [WiFi] use the code that is located underneath the modem, but please keep in mind that the internet is not the fastest.

GUEST ACCESS

There is a laundry room available for guests.

Please feel free to enjoy walking and jogging around the property.

There is a parking area where you may park up to 2 cars, but if you have a 3rd car please let us know and we'll let you know where you may park it.

NEIGHBORHOOD

Although our property is very secluded and quiet, just 6 minutes away you will find some nice restaurants and shopping for groceries as well. If you enjoy organic and healthy foods, Mana Foods (our local grocery store in Paia) is just a short 10 minutes drive from here as well as the beach and a number of activities/adventures. The closest place where you may enjoy a yummy casual breakfast or lunch is at the Pauwela Cannery, a surfers' and windsurfers' favorite. The Haiku Cannery does have more eating out options than the Pauwela Cannery, but it is 3 minutes further away. At the Haiku Cannery I very much enjoy the sushi at Nuka and the amazing burgers, pizza, pasta, salads and cold beer at Colleen's Restaurant. Around the corner from Nuka there is Maui Kombucha Bar, don't miss it! There is also Veg Out for vegetarians across from Nuka. By the way, all these places are right next to the Haiku Post Office. There are also some more restaurants in this area and many good options to explore, but before I'm finished, I want to mention the Taco Truck and Tai wagon restaurant!

If you are staying with us during wave season, you may want to visit Jaws to see tow surfing and windsurfing pushed to the extremes on some of the biggest rideable waves on the planet. Just drive straight down from our place towards the ocean, but make sure you are on a 4 wheel drive vehicle, especially if muddy conditions!

If you enjoy hiking through amazing and unique places, you might want to visit the Makawao Forest; just a beautiful 20 min drive from here. Also, if you are feeling adventurous, on the way to the Makawao forest a fun place to go is the Piiholo Ranch Zip Line. On the way down from the forest you may want to stop at Makawao Town to check out some locally owned stores or for a bite to eat. By the way, I love the sandwiches at Casanovas in Makawao. There are some small art galleries there too if you happen enjoy painters who portray Maui's landscapes.

Downhill from Makawao is Paia, a cool place patched with boutiques, restaurants and my favorite health food store Mana Foods. I would highly encourage shopping for groceries at Mana Foods, once you go there you'll see what I mean. The beach is also right in front of Paia and if you are up to a long walk on the beach, start right there and walk or swim towards Kahului; pass the rocks and coves and keep walking... also great for a jog or run.

If you want to check out some great streams and pools, Iao Valley is your spot hands down. This area is also known for it's amazing hikes. It is above Old Wailuku. This is a personal favorite and place where I like to take friends while they are visiting Maui.

There are so many great things to do and nearby places to visit from our property, like the Haleakala [volcano], Poli Poli, Kula, Twin Falls, including some secret spots like Commando Hike, I could go on and on. With that said, we hope you will get to enjoy staying at our property as we look forward to meeting you and talking about some of the beautiful places to explore and visit on Maui.

About Alejandro Goya

“When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.” - Aldo Leopold, 1948

We are originally from Argentina. In the early 90's my brother Francisco Goya and I decided on moving to Maui and pursuing our windsurfing dream. Maui offers one of the most consistent wave sailing conditions in the world. I'm also an artist and love nature, so as an artist it is easy to get inspired by beautiful Maui. In 1993 my mother purchase this amazing property; lucky us! Lately I've been helping more and more with Mana Aina [our property's name] and our vacation rental, up to the point when my family decided to name me “The Caretaker” :) I'm happy they did because I think I am the happiest property caretaker and vacation rental manager that I've ever met. When done with work, I love going to Hookipa for a windsurfing session, otherwise I'll keep on working at Mana Aina or at my studio here making art.

One of the great things about running the vacation rentals, is that I get to meet guests from all over the world who come here to experience our beautiful and unique land. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to call this little spot in paradise, my home; it is peaceful, yet at the same time, is near everything I could possibly need and want.

Here is one more thing about myself that I thought I could share with you while at it. Finding the best in people inspires me greatly, which in turn keeps bringing out the best in others and myself. I also learned a while back to be thankful, not only about having what matters to me the most, but also about life's simplest things. This simple state of gratefulness seems to keep bringing more of it into my life, and I live happier.

Alejandro Goya purchased this studio in 1993

Why Alejandro Goya chose Maui

Our property offers a great sense of grounding, getting back in touch with the earth and ourselves. By just sleeping or standing on this land, people's 5 senses come back to life and time seems to slow down a bit. Staying here with your loved ones, family and friends will most likely help you connect or reconnect. Mana Aina for me is a happy place, where everyone comes to have a good time, get together and feel in touch with nature and Maui.

Geographically Mana Aina is located in the heart of Haiku, where it is peaceful yet close to all the fun, great beaches, shopping and restaurants. Also, what's amazing about this area is that it is all agricultural land and the properties are large offering lots of space, peace and privacy.

In some ways purchasing this property was made possible by my grandparents whom I love and respect for who they were and their life accomplishments. Living here reminds me of the time I had with them and how much a part of the word home they mean to me. So I'm extremely grateful to my mother for having the vision and courage to buy this wonderful land, and for giving me the opportunity to share this spot in paradise with thousands of wonderful guests from around the world.

What makes this studio unique

It is away from noise, touristic areas and the busy life, while at the same time, near it all. Of course it is up to how you feel and what you want to do during your vacation. If you are looking for peace and to relax, or for action and adventure, it is all here and around us.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed two nights in one of the studios. Very cute and peaceful. A box fan would be helpful for a next visit as it does it not have A/C and the ceiling fans didn't seem to do the air circulation we were looking for. Owner is very nice and even brought by fresh eggs for us in the morning.

loved it!!!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED LOVED LOVED it here. My husband and I and our 2 little baby girls stayed here and were in heaven. Alejandro is very friendly and helpful. The studio had everything we could ever dream of including beach towels and a cooler. The bathrooms are fantastic and the kitchen had everything we needed. But the views! Oh my gosh. The studios are designed with windows that look out at the rainforest and it created a peace of mind that words cannot describe.

Wonderful place on the north shore of maui!

  • 5 of 5

Great place just 5 minutes from Hookipa in Haiku. Super quiet, no planes, road noise, or neighbors. New buildings, clean, spacious studios with lots of light, high ceilings, comfortable bed, and furnishings, internet and satellite tv worked without problems. Kitchen well appointed. Owners are so friendly, respond immediately to any questions. We'll be back for sure!

If it's quiet you want, it's quiet you'll have.

5 stars well-earned from our family of four looking to get away for some tranquility. So many different trees! This is just a serene property. Host Alejandro made sure our studio was configured (beds) to suit our needs. We found this to be an ideal home base for our Haiku/Makawao adventures.

Great appart

  • 5 of 5

We were so lucky to find This apartment. Our vacation started not very successfully, we rent one appart in Paia , it was very close to the road and we can't sleep all the night and it was very small and uncomfortable to be in a house even 10 minutes.we were very upset and decided try to find something else. We send many requests and Alejandro was first to answer and ready to meet us in 10 minutes. Based on our negative experience we decided to check first of all is everything like written in advertisement. And We like the place even before entering the studio, it has huge territory, very nice , with its private road, very quiet. You live like in a big amazing park, with nice trees, flowers, all is in a very good condition.People take care about their territory a lot.and it is very-very quite.Only sounds of nature! When we entered our appart it was great: big kitchen, nice place to eat and enjoy the view, huge Windows , you can enjoy the nature even staying in bed. It has big bathroom, everything clean and you don't want to leave it. We would definitely stay their again and recommend to our friends.
