Large first floor unit with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. There is a private sun room off of one of the bedrooms that can hold an additional bed or serve as a quiet office. Includes a fully equipped kitchen, lovely dining room and separate living room with a front porch.
This original duplex feels more like a single family home than an apartment. The house has high quality furnishings with brand new queen size mattresses. Perfect for a weekend getaway with friends, or for a longer term rental for visiting professionals who need some extra space!
Located in the safe, quiet East End neighborhood of Edgewood close to many Pittsburgh destinations. Great location! 1.5 mi from Regent Square & Frick Park; 3 mi from Squirrel Hill and Chatham University; 3 mi from Bakery Square in East Liberty (Google Pittsburgh headquarters), 4.5 mi from Shadyside and Carnegie Mellon University, Oakland and the University of Pittsburgh. Less than 9 miles to Downtown Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Point Park and other universities.
While you're visiting, I highly recommend eating brunch at Square Cafe, visiting the "Beer Cave" at D's Dogz, or enjoying one of the many other restaurants that Regent Square has to offer. If you like to be outdoors, hundreds of miles of trails await you in Frick Park, a short walk or even shorter drive from the duplex. Enjoy jazz at First Fridays at the Frick, or spend an evening perusing galleries in trendy Lawrenceville, going to the theater in Downtown Pittsburgh, watching baseball at PNC Park on the North Shore or any number of other activities -- all within 15 to 20 minutes or less of this property!
High-speed wireless internet included.
May be wired for cable television at guest request (we have not had many requests for cable, but are considering installing it).
Large living and dining rooms with original built-ins, hardwood floors & decorative fireplace.
High ceilings with lots of natural light.
Plenty of closet space & additional dry basement storage if needed.
Kitchen includes a dishwasher as well as all necessary kitchen items (coffee maker, pots/pans, utensils, etc.).
Free on-site laundry.
The apartment uses window A/C units, not central air, due to the historic nature of the space.
We live upstairs in a completely separate unit, but are easy to reach if you need anything.
Free parking in the off-street covered carport. Additional on street parking is available, or guests can choose to rent a space in the two-car garage. The express busway into Oakland and Downtown Pittsburgh is less than a mile away. Other buses going into Oakland and throughout the city are within walking distance for someone who does not mind walking up hill.
No smoking on or around premises.
Please respect that this is a quiet residential area with neighbors in close proximity.
Hi! I am a Montessori teacher, wife of an amazing husband, Kyle, and mother of an entertaining little boy. We live in an owner-occupied two-unit duplex in a small borough within the city of Pittsburgh. Kyle is a statistician with a graduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Information Systems Management. I have a graduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Teaching, plus an additional certification in Montessori education. We're an easy-going crew that enjoys education and learning, going on hikes in the nearby parks, travel, and eating lots of good food.
I grew up hosting people from all of the world. My mother runs a formal Bed & Breakfast (The Mellor House) with exceptional reviews. (Fun fact: I met my husband while he was a guest at her B&B!) Kyle and I hope to follow in her footsteps by providing short- and long-term furnished stays in the first floor apartment of our duplex. We enjoy experiencing cultures that are different from our own. Hopefully we will meet you soon!
Nancy Johnson purchased this apartment in 2015
We have lived in this area for many years. We love the quaint neighborhood with its beautiful older homes and its proximity to major urban destinations as well as local parks.
We recently spent a month in Pittsburgh while my daughter was receiving outpatient treatment after an extended hospital stay. We had been staying in hotels and this was a most welcome change. The owners were very helpful and hospitable. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen allowed us to prepare home cooked meals and it was an inviting atmosphere to relax. The location was convenient to the hospital and to the University of Pittsburgh and the many surrounding things to do in Pittsburgh. We frequented Frick park for relaxing morning walks. I would highly recommend this home away from home.
We have children in school at University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, and stayed at this lovely property for a long weekend. It was an exceptional find! A lovely large, immaculately clean home and the young family who is your host is very hospitable and helpful.
The home is a duplex so your host is close enough to be of help, but with a separate entrance and the entire 1st floor of the building it is an ideal private set up for guests. Bright and large with 2 fully furnished bedrooms and an unused room that could act as a 3rd bedroom. A white tile bathroom, newly refinished kitchen and all new furnishings this was a perfect place for us. Plenty of beautiful clean linens. Lots of space and comfort and your host is exceptionally helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations and anything you need. We were personally checked in by Nancy the host to find a lovely welcome note, bottle of wine and we found they had thoughtfully supplied all basics and well beyond.....Coffee, tea and half&half, milk and OJ in the fridge, a bowl of fruit, a request ahead if we needed anything special stocked and although we said no, we were thrilled to have the basics and more provided.
Hospitality you would find in a boutique hotel was provided by our host! There was a booklet of area restaurants and activities. We actually went to two of them and loved them. The Brunch at Union Square (Sundays) was exceptionally good and recommended. Only wish we had time to test more of the many guest booklet activities and restaurants.
We were provided off street parking in car port or garage. My husband jogged the area for exercise as the residential area was safe and beautiful old homes, yet we were at the colleges or downtown in 15 to 20 min. Close to everything, clean & beautiful, super friendly owner. This is an exceptional host and home, grab it if it is not booked up....We will be back!
