Carlyle Lake Lodge was built in 1979 by Henry Hollenkamp Sr. as a weekend retreat for his five adult children and their families. Since that time it has provided many wonderful memories of picnics, boating, and BBQs. The Lodge is currently owned by Henry Hollenkamp Jr. and his sister Alice Blea. Alice and Henry are very excited to be able to share a little bit of heaven with their valued guests.
Alice Blea purchased this cabin in 1979
Carlyle Lake Lodge is conveniently located within walking distance of Carlyle Lake, the most visited state park in the state of Illinois, and only 30 minutes from historic Lebanon, IL with its antique shops and unique stores.
Absolute peace and quiet are the mainstay at Carlyle Lake Lodge along with convenience and more than enough space to accomodate even the largest family. Sit on the deck and watch the birds or take your boat out on the lake for an exciting day of water skiing. No matter what adventure you choose you will have a great time!
We really enjoyed the stay. The house was really nice and clean, and equipped with everything we needed. We will rent again.
There are not a lot of options to stay near lake Carlisle. This house is lovely. It does need more than one bathroom, and internet would be really really nice (and it does not have). Phones (at last ATT) don't really work. (on the lake they do and in town they kind of do - but cell service is terrible - you are nowhere when you are here). We don't think there was cable television (at least we couldn't get it to work if there was). The house is quite nice, it's in a neighborhood that obviously has no zoning - it's mostly trailers, although very nice ones and a well kept neighborhood. This house could be in a much nicer neighborhood than it is and fit in. But if you want to stay near Keyes and near the lake, this would be a great option - even if there were other options. We enjoyed our stay. Could have stayed there for a longer time. (There is no dishwasher but the dining room is inviting and large). Plenty of beds - in total there are four twin beds and two full size beds (maybe they are queens, not sure). Thanks for having us!
This is a very well furnished and equipped property in a very pleasant location, about 200 yards from the lake ( which cannot be seen from the property) and a two or three minute drive to a safe, sandy beach which is ideal for children. The beds were very comfortable and the A/C was effective together with ceiling fans in every room. The property was spotlessly clean.
The large decking is a pleasant, useful area with two tables and chairs, a parasol and a barbeque ( charcoal, not gas).
Six of us stayed at the lodge and we definitely felt that it needs another bathroom for the number of people it can accommodate - or at a minimum another toilet / washroom. On our second day we had a fierce storm and the living room windows all leaked causing a flood and a wet carpet. The owner arranged for her brother to effect a, presumably, temporary repair. We had no further heavy rain so do not know how effective it was. I assume this will be dealt with on a more permanent basis.
Another issue to be aware of is that there is no wifi and the cellphone reception is extremely poor, so take this into account if these are important to you. However, some may see this as a bonus!
A point, not a criticism of the property, is that we had a power outage for about four hours during the early hours of a morning meaning we lost A/C and the ceiling fans. It was just becoming unpleasantly hot when the power returned. I guess this maybe related to the fairly remote location of Carlyle Lake Lodge and I do not know if it is a regular occurance but, again, if a constant electricity supply is critical, e.g for medical equipment, it may be worth checking with Ms Blea if it often happens.
A final point is that the Lodge has a washing machine and drier but this is used only to wash the linen at the changeover of occupancy and was locked up when the lady who cleans it left. Six of us stayed for six nights and we would have welcomed this facility. If 8 people stayed for an extended time it would be essential. The nearest laundromat facility would, I assume, be at the nearest town, Carlyle, which is about 10 or 12 miles away.
We really enjoyed our stay in this property and, if we are in the area again, we would happily stay at Carlyle Lake Lodge. Our grandchildren can't wait to return!!
It was only the need for another bathroom which meant I did not give it 5 Stars!
This is a great place for a group of friends or a family to spend time together. My group of 5 artists enjoyed the large deck and the large table where we spent much time working on our art. The location was easy to find, but it also provided some privacy because it was at the end of a road, surrounded with trees, and somewhat secluded. It was only a short drive to different parts of Lake Carlyle, where we saw many different kinds of wildlife. Inside, the decor was attractive and quaint. It was well supplied with kitchen items, towels, restaurant menus, etc. The owner was easy to contact and accommodating.
We stayed for a bass fishing tournament, and we really enjoyed having a place to come home to and relax and recharge. The boys really enjoyed the fire pit as well. Clean as advertised. We will be back if we make the state tournament again next year!
