The Space

3 bedroom, 2.5 bath log cabin. Wrap around porch provides space to gaze across the mountains. Approx. 2,300 square feet and sits on 13 acres.

Spotty cell service in the area. Land line phone and Internet available at the house. No long distance; people will have to call you.

All persons staying at the property age 12 and over are considered guests and must be accounted for in the booking.

Pets (dogs only) must be approved ahead of time and are subject to a pet fee of $120/per stay.

Undisclosed guest(s) and/or pets will result in forfeiture of security deposit.

It is recommended that you arrive during daylight hours for your first visit; the country roads can be difficult for first-timers to navigate at night.

Why Sandi B Stambaugh chose Lost River

We first came to the Lost River area in early November 2007 and fell in love with the area. Soon after we started looking at properties and land. After we described our ideal view, our realtor took us up to this spot. Imagine only being able to see peeks of the view through all the trees. We knew it was hiding, just waiting to be opened for all to enjoy. We started building the house in the fall of 2008, and the final work was completed the weekend before our wedding in May 2009 (held here at the house).

Perfect in every way!

I booked this lovely cabin for a little family weekend get-away for myself, my 90-year old mother, my two sons and a daughter-in-law as well as our Golden Retriever and son's Standard Poodle. We chose the last weekend in October. The cabin had the most amazing views from the deck which we enjoyed with coffee each morning. The sunrise views coming up over the mountains were spectacular. We did a little hiking on the property itself and also drove over to Lost River State Park with the dogs and did more hiking. We saw some beautiful scenery along the way. We took advantage of the camp-fire pit and had a wonderful campfire Saturday night which we all sat around until way after dark. Since we came supplied with lots of food (closest grocery store is about 50 minutes or so away), we all sat around the table each morning and each evening for home-cooked meals. The kitchen has every imaginable pot and tool you would ever need. I definitely over-packed because we didn't need many of the items I packed. There was even a large pitcher with spout which we used to make iced tea and keep in the refrigerator. Sandi was so nice to work with, very responsive to any question I had ahead of time. And we really appreciated the cold bottle of Moscato and other beverages as well as a variety of snacks to greet us upon our arrival. We all came away feeling refreshed and relaxed. I highly recommend this cabin. Thanks so much Sandi!

You will not be disappointed!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful setting, long-range mountain landscapes. Wonderfully quiet and tranquil. Beautiful cabin design, very well appointed and super clean. This house is well taken care of – everything works. Well-appointed kitchen. We brought a few pots and pans but did not need them. This was our sixth VRBO rental and this property pleased as much as multi-million dollar vacation homes we have rented over the years. It rained the first couple of days -- I highly recommend a four-wheel drive SUV or truck to navigate the access road leading up to the first property gate. Grocery store is a bit of a drive so best to bring enough groceries for a few days. Internet/Wi-Fi was sufficient to stream NLDS baseball playoff games on our Roku. We loved this property. We hope to have the opportunity to return. I hope the hot tub is an option for our next stay. Loved it, loved it, loved it!

Beautiful views and a great vacation house

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had such a great time here! The beautiful view of the mountain valleys from the back deck and great room were constantly wowing us the whole weekend. Plus, you get more views if you walk down the driveway (easy once you get up the hill) in the mornings and evenings like we did. The cabin itself is in great shape and everything is very comfortable. The whole weekend we were talking about how we want to come back next year but for a much longer stay. Thanks, Sandi and Scott, for creating such a wonderful place!

Wonderfully relaxing week at the top of the mountain

  • 5 of 5

Two 55+ couples and our small dog Max. Beautiful, comfortable, clean house with everything you need for peaceful relaxing week. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Perfect for reading, playing cards, movies, cooking nice dinners and walks. Great deck with AMAZING views and great bird watching. From the deck, we saw indigo buntings, scarlet tanagers, rose breasted grosbeaks, blue birds, baltimore orioles, warblers, purple martins, fly catchers, nuthatches, whip-poor-will, brown thrasher, cedar waxwings, hummingbirds, flickers, red headed woodpeckers, and last but not least pileated woodpecker. Owners were responsive, providing all needed information and easy to deal with. Caretaker left us snacks and cold drinks for our arrival. Much appreciated after a long drive. We enjoyed every minute.

November Short Stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved our two night stay at the Log Cabin! What a fantastic, inspiring, incredible view! No way that pictures can really capture it!

The cabin was perfect for our family of 5. We all enjoyed some billiards fun and movies in front of the fire each evening. The location is great for going over to Lost River State Park, or a trip into Moorefield. Sandi was great! She was very quick to respond to any questions that we had via email. The house was neat, clean, and well equipped. And, having Wi-Fi is perfect! We are planning to return in the Spring! Thanks for everything Sandi!

Perfect nest on the top of the mountain!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I loved this log cabin! It is perfect for a weekend getaway and the view just takes a breath away! We felt ourselves like eagles living in the nest on the top of the mountain! It was so quiet there, so peaceful and relaxing that we came back to the city very well recharged. The cabin is very clean, neat and very well equipped. I would definitely recommend this cabin to everyone!
