Why Sandi B Stambaugh chose Lost River

We first came to the Lost River area in early November 2007 and fell in love with the area. Soon after we started looking at properties and land. After we described our ideal view, our realtor took us up to this spot. Imagine only being able to see peeks of the view through all the trees. We knew it was hiding, just waiting to be opened for all to enjoy. We started building the house in the fall of 2008, and the final work was completed the weekend before our wedding in May 2009 (held here at the house).

Overall a great stay

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I drove 6 hours from Ohio with our two dogs, and we all loved our stay.

The good: What a truly beautiful place! We really enjoyed the fireplace, playing pool, watching Netflix, and the deck. The cabin is basically in perfect condition. The kitchen had everything we needed, the beds are really comfy, and the view is just amazing.

The bad: THERE WAS NO AIR CONDITIONING. It's June and in the 80's outside (this is our biggest gripe). The A/C unit is stowed in the upstairs bedroom closet... we considered installing it. We kept the windows open, fans on, but it was so hot we had to switch beds the next night. The deck needs an umbrella for shade during the day (maybe it gets too windy for one out there?) We had to keep all the curtains closed (NO view from inside) most of the day to keep the heat out. There's no TV (only internet TV as far as we could tell, which was okay for us). The lock at the first gate was hard to work (maybe impossible for someone with arthritic hands). Be aware- you're on camera both inside and outside the cabin unless you find and cover the cameras.

Please know I don't mean to complain! Just wanted to give an informative review for those considering. Overall this is a great place, and I'd recommend staying here.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. Unfortunately your stay coincided with a heat wave. We usually do not need to install the AC unit until mid-June, but we will take your advice and plan to have it installed earlier in the year. As far as the cameras, they are there for security, both yours and for the property itself. There are 4 working cameras, one additional nonoperational and 2 highly visible decoys (the white cameras). Before we had the cameras we had a break in where several thousand dollars of valuables were stolen. In the 5 years since the cameras and security system were installed we have had no recurrence. Only one operational camera is located within the residence and it is pointing at the front French doors. Unfortunately this also includes a small part of the great room. All of the cameras are strategically placed to be able to obtain the identity of persons attempting to enter the cabin. None are placed for continual observation of activities within the cabin. Thank you for the feedback, and we will definitely take your advice.

Serene

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful winter weekend left us feeling rejuvenated. Decor is stylish, charming, and interior was very clean. Man cave downstairs is relaxing and pool table was a lot of fun. Master bedroom was gorgeous with morning views of the mountains. Best was how remote the property is but still accessible without all wheel or four wheel drive. I have never seen so many stars at night and experiencing those views from that deck in the silence of the woods was an unparalleled experience.

Secluded perfection!

  • 5 of 5

It's easy to feel at home! All the comforts and amenities you need for your stay. It is very remote as described so make sure you have the food and items you want/need. Directions and information provided were great. The views are simply fantastic, don't miss the sunrise! We hope to be able to visit again.

Secluded Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Masion Avec Vue with our 21-month-old and German Shepherd for a week and had a great time. Sandi was extremely responsive to all questions before our arrival and the property manager had a snacks and a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived, which was a pleasant surprise and much needed after a long drive. The cabin had breath taking views and was very clean. We lost power one morning and called the property manager who called the power company and got back to us quickly with an update. It only took an hour or so to restore power from the time we knew it was lost. She also called us later that day to check in and make sure we were all good. Overall, we highly recommend this cabin. It's got everything you need to relax and reconnect with nature. A good time was had by all, especially our dog!

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this lovely cabin for a little family weekend get-away for myself, my 90-year old mother, my two sons and a daughter-in-law as well as our Golden Retriever and son's Standard Poodle. We chose the last weekend in October. The cabin had the most amazing views from the deck which we enjoyed with coffee each morning. The sunrise views coming up over the mountains were spectacular. We did a little hiking on the property itself and also drove over to Lost River State Park with the dogs and did more hiking. We saw some beautiful scenery along the way. We took advantage of the camp-fire pit and had a wonderful campfire Saturday night which we all sat around until way after dark. Since we came supplied with lots of food (closest grocery store is about 50 minutes or so away), we all sat around the table each morning and each evening for home-cooked meals. The kitchen has every imaginable pot and tool you would ever need. I definitely over-packed because we didn't need many of the items I packed. There was even a large pitcher with spout which we used to make iced tea and keep in the refrigerator. Sandi was so nice to work with, very responsive to any question I had ahead of time. And we really appreciated the cold bottle of Moscato and other beverages as well as a variety of snacks to greet us upon our arrival. We all came away feeling refreshed and relaxed. I highly recommend this cabin. Thanks so much Sandi!
