Overview

About the property

Hilltown Cottage - Quiet - Close To Nature

This newly renovated cottage is located atop a hill overlooking the Wild and Scenic Westfield River surrounded by state forest and protected land. Wildlife abounds and we are a birder's haven. Many a morning you can watch mist arising from the river. Walk out the door to hike, mountain bike, snowshoe, or ski in the woods. Groomed cross country skis are nearby. We are located midway between The Berkshires with its many cultural activities and the Pioneer Valley, home to the five colleges: U Mass, and Smith, Amherst, Mt Holyoke, and Hampshire Colleges. The cottage sleeps four (1 BR for 2, 2 built-in twins by the wood stove). The kitchen is fully equipped. The owner lives on the property in the main home near to the cottage.

Country retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cottage offered a restorative and rejuvenating few days to get away from it all. It's a quiet, beautiful spot on 30 acres. There was fantastic hiking either by foot from the cottage, or other options were a short drive away. Good biking is also in the area. John was available in person or by text to answer any questions, and the comfortable cottage with it's wood burning stove made for cozy evenings. Great place to stay.

Quaint quiet location with beautiful views of the mountain range!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away at this quaint house in Cummington. We had plans for both evenings in Northampton and found it a very easy ride back and forth. An added bonus was our hike at nearby D.A.R. reservation and visit to the Chesterfield Gorge. Would love to come back in warmer weather to enjoy the screened in porch, the pool and a view of the evening stars!

I could live here!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, very out-of-the-way location, atop a mountain bordering a wilderness area. The views are beautiful and the silence soothing. The cabin is a real gem, designed with every comfort in mind, and very homey. We loved the wood burning stove and the well-planned built-ins. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Lovely cottage in the woods

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I with two friends rented this cottage for a weekend during fall foliage season, and we had a great time. While it was a little difficult coming up the back roads to the property at night (we have a car with a very low clearance-our friends had an SUV and did fine), once we got there everything was lovely. We had our morning tea/coffee on the screened porch that looks over a valley and to the next hill. We traveled around Pioneer Valley exploring the area and ate very well in several venues. The cottage itself has one bedroom (the other two twin beds are part of the main area) and one bathroom which worked very well for the four of us. Everything we needed to be comfortable was there (including wood to have a fire in the fireplace every night) and I'd be glad to rent this property again.

Conveniences of home in an idyllic woodsy setting

  • 5 of 5

Just as we did last fall, we enjoyed having this cottage as our base. It was absolutely quiet and private for work during the day, and relaxing in the evening after learning new skills at nearby Snow Farm. A fire in the stove on September 2! How cozy! The Old Creamery Coop came through with great salmon and wine for our dinner, too. The fall gardens are beautiful.

Thanks, you guys! Hope to return!
