About the property

Hilltown Cottage - Quiet - Close To Nature

This newly renovated cottage is located atop a hill overlooking the Wild and Scenic Westfield River surrounded by state forest and protected land. Wildlife abounds and we are a birder's haven. Many a morning you can watch mist arising from the river. Walk out the door to hike, mountain bike, snowshoe, or ski in the woods. Groomed cross country skis are nearby. We are located midway between The Berkshires with its many cultural activities and the Pioneer Valley, home to the five colleges: U Mass, and Smith, Amherst, Mt Holyoke, and Hampshire Colleges. The cottage sleeps four (1 BR for 2, 2 built-in twins by the wood stove). The kitchen is fully equipped. The owner lives on the property in the main home near to the cottage.

Conveniences of home in an idyllic woodsy setting

  • 5 of 5

Just as we did last fall, we enjoyed having this cottage as our base. It was absolutely quiet and private for work during the day, and relaxing in the evening after learning new skills at nearby Snow Farm. A fire in the stove on September 2! How cozy! The Old Creamery Coop came through with great salmon and wine for our dinner, too. The fall gardens are beautiful.

Thanks, you guys! Hope to return!

Charming surroundings

  • 3 of 5

We intended on staying for two nights, unfortunately we had to leave after the first.

Maybe there was a lapse in housekeeping (found gray hairs on the pillow case, the refrigerator door had something sticky on it, window sills had dead bugs) The beds smelled very dusty and triggered an asthma attack. Not my idea of a nice time :-{

A perfect, comfortable sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

The lovely accommodations, serene surroundings and the kind and thoughtful owners are all-around simply first rate. This is a very, very special place. The charming, well-designed and well-equipped cottage is designed for comfort and ease, with so many amenities. My visit was in summer, so I particularly enjoyed the natural beauty of the wonderfully landscaped property, the screened porch with a beautiful view and the large, vintage-but-well-maintained pool, also with a beautiful view. I would return in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

John and Joyce were lovely, thoughtful hosts. There cottage was comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed for a working retreat. We enjoyed a quiet space to work and the beautiful clearing, woods and pool when we took our breaks. We hooe to be back again soon!

perfect getaway

  • 4 of 5

It is a beautiful property and the perfect little house for a quiet getaway. The property did have a major tick issue but I think it is supposed to be a bad year for ticks and I don't think there is much one can do about that! We were happy to hang inside by the fire and enjoy the view from the porch. It was the perfect weekend for this young family of 4.

Beautiful, quiet, and just as described

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend to attend my reunion at Smith College in Northampton, and loved it. The location is delightfully remote, yet conveniently located for things that we wanted to do at Smith as well as up in Williamstown and at MassMOCA in North Adams. We were a little too early for pool season, but I expect that would be lovely in Summertime. We will be back for boys college visits coming up soon!
