My husband Glenn and I are the new owners of this magical house in gorgeous San Miguel de Allende. The house has been listed on HomeAway since 2009 with the previous owners and has always been a popular rental property. We are excited to have you visit our home and fall in love with this place and it's people. We live in Pennsylvania with 3 of our 6 children (the other 3 have flown the nest). We love to travel to Mexico and SMA and fell in love with this house the first time we saw it.
Sarah and Glenn Bergenfield purchased this house in 2015
This house is special. Located in a mainly Mexican neighborhood, on a quiet cul-de-sac, the area is vibrant and filled with small stores and restaurants. Children play on the streets and you are just far enough away from the busy Centro to enjoy peace and quiet. The house is completely private, with the downstairs rooms all opening onto the courtyard. You can enjoy having the windows open all day, and sit in one of the three outdoor spaces surrounded by lush plants and flowers. If you want to experience Mexico with it's warmth and color, this is where you want to be.
The courtyard is the heart of our home. Offering complete privacy, you can enjoy the roof terrace with it's gorgeous views of the mountains, read quietly on the study terrace, or have your morning coffee on the main patio and watch the birds feed. It truly is a magical house.
We enjoyed our stay very much, the home accommodates just two or a whole group of friends equally well. Maria and Antonio made us comfortable and were most pleasant to have around. The sights and sounds of Mexico, barking dogs, firecrackers, church bells.....were all part of the pleasant experience. We met new friends in the neighborhood, loved the whole music, art, drama scene, and also enjoyed the quiet times at home in the courtyard or rooftop gardens in sunshine and solitude. We would definitely like to come back again. Gail and John Haines
Casa Magica was exactly as represented- beautiful, light-filled, spacious, charming. I stayed for a month and had various friends and family coming and going the whole time. We all enjoyed it completely! The inside/outside layout is fun and refreshing with the gorgeous gardens. We loved having coffee in front of the fireplace on chilly mornings, browsing through the books upstairs. When warm and sunny, the garden was a beautiful place to sit for breakfast or read and relax.
The management company caring for the property was pretty unusual. They anticipated every need, having bottled water at the ready, arriving in 10 minutes when my daughter and I locked ourselves onto the balcony by accident, and staying in touch to see if we needed anything. Maria is simply the most wonderful and although we truly did not need a cleaning person 3 times a week, we got to enjoy her and appreciate her visits. Antonio takes care of the garden and makes sure all is running smoothly outside. He, too, is charming.
We loved the neighborhood with its many "tiendas" and restaurants. The neighbors were friendly and we always felt safe. Walking into El Centro was a pleasant 20 minutes of enjoying the architecture and color of San Miguel. Do take earplugs! There are always barking dogs, and few mufflers on cars, it seems.
I would return to this house in a heartbeat and I am certain any other renter would feel the same!
The home was just as pictured with beautiful plants and immaculately maintained. We had an issue with one of the toilets and the management company took care of it immediately. When they say "light-filled" however, that means there are no window treatments in the main bedroom so you are up with the sun. Also, one of us got bitten by a spider after killing several of them. The house may need a bug bomb. The housekeeper, Maria, was very sweet but it seemed a bit much to have her come every other day. At first, it seemed like a long walk to the main square, El Jardin, but we quickly adjusted and enjoyed the exercise. Overall, I would highly recommend San Miguel and La Casa Magica.
