About the property

Stylish And Comfortable Three Bedroom Home On Pickwick Lake Main River Channel

Our waterfront comfortable, mostly remodeled home is family-friendly and available to guests. It's a ranch style house built in 1960 and situated in a family neighborhood in which many homes are vacation/second homes. Most rooms offer a beautiful view of lake. This relaxing, comfortable home sleeps eight+ (5 traditional beds, two sofa sleepers, a queen-size hanging/swing bed). Features include a spacious screened in porch with lots of comfortable seating for large gatherings and a swing bed,. There's a large multilevel deck which leads to a wooden staircase and on to the lakefront, where the fishing is at its best! We have two fire pits available for bonfires and marshmallow roasting. If you're coming to tournament fish, this home is ideal for both tournament participants as well as their family members who may observe the action on Pickwick Lake from the decks or screened porch.

We also have a private pier with boat mooring that may accommodate your boat docking needs. Water levels and conditions fluctuate, so inquire about current conditions if water activities are in your plans. Feel free to bring paddle boards, jet skis, canoes, boats and other water toys.

Our Pickwick Lake home is located just five miles west of the quaint Norman Rockwell-ish town of Tuscumbia, recently ranked among the top ten most charming small towns in Alabama. It's about an hour west of Huntsville/Madison County on one of the most peaceful and lovely sections of the Tennessee River. Pride Landing launch ramp is located about five miles west of the home by land, about 5 minutes by boat. Florence Marina/McFarland Park is about 23 minutes away by road, 15 minutes by boat. Local fishing on Pickwick, Wilson and Wheeler Lakes is easily accessible. We can recommend fishing guides, as well

Local attractions include the popular Rattlesnake Saloon, a restaurant in a cave, (recently featured on Food Network), Ivy Green (the birthplace of Helen Keller) and Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve (featuring "The Most Spectacular View in Alabama," according to Backpacker Magazine), two Robert Trent Jones Golf Courses about 15 miles away, and the University of North Alabama in nearby Florence, Willows Day Spa about 5 miles away in Tuscumbia, and many others.

The fourth generation of our family is now enjoying our home and we would love to share it with you. The water is beautiful all times of year, although water levels at our pier and conditions do fluctuate seasonally. The serene, lovely location make this home perfect for a get away. Email us with any questions you many have!

We ask that you follow our checklist for picking up the house before departing.

About Judy

We (property owners Tim and Judy Hendrix Kirchner) grew up in this area and we were fortunate to be able to keep this home in the family when Judy's mom decided to sell and move into town. We both graduated from the University of North Alabama in nearby Florence; Judy was a teacher for many years and Tim went on to the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Engineering School, earning a degree in electrical engineering. We lived for almost 20 years in the Marshall Islands on the island of Kwajalein, and now we split our time between Huntsville, where Tim continues to work in missile defense, and our lake house on Locust Shores, where Judy loves fulfilling her dream of owning a bed and breakfast. We have two grown children. Julianne is a nurse married to a Naval officer, Michael, and lives in DC. Graham is a graduate of the University of Alabama, Huntsville, and plans to attend medical school. He recently married his sweetheart, Katrina, a nurse, and plans to attend medical school and eventually hopes to become a missionary physician.

Judy purchased this house in 1991

Why Judy chose Alabama

For going on six decades this home on Pickwick Lake has been in our family. Judy and her sisters were raised in this home; we were blessed to be able to keep it in our family to be loved by our fourth generation. It has been our gathering place for over half a century because we love the beautiful, restful atmosphere the home has to offer. It's an older, comfortable, happy place for friends and family to gather to enjoy water activities, play games, watch waterfowl, fish, read, or to just relax.

What makes this house unique

Great for tournament fishing participants! Directly located on Pickwick Lake, part of the Tennessee River, this area is known for great fishing year round. Located just 10 minutes from Pride Landing Launch Ramp, and only 13 miles, (about 20 minutes by car, seven miles by water) from Florence Marina/McFarland Park. There's plenty of boat parking in our double driveway. Fishing from our private pier is another option, or guests may use our canoe for fishing or just relaxing on beautiful Pickwick Lake. Ask about lake conditions if water activities are part of your plans. Great for family members and friends of fishing tournament participants as you may watch the action from the screened porch or decks!

Our lake home is a wonderful gathering place for friends and family. Its location on beautiful Pickwick Lake provides a serene setting for romantic getaways, and it's a prime fishing spot for sporting weekends. Great choice for fishermen/ladies (and their friends and families) who are participating in tournaments as launch ramps are just minutes away. There are two Robert Trent Jones golf courses in this area. Nearby Wilson Dam has one of the largest locks in the world. The Shoals area is the birthplace of the "Father of the Blues", W.C. Handy, who is celebrated with a blues festival every August and Helen Keller, whose festival takes place every year in the last week of June. Wonderful "Willows Spa" located just 5 miles away in Tuscumbia. House is located in a neighborhood with mostly similar single family homes in a rural locale. Neighborhood is usually quiet, as many houses are second homes, infrequently used.

This was such a beautiful and relaxing place. Loved watching the sun rise every morning with my cup of coffee. Bird watching was my favorite as I lay on the swinging bed with a good book. Will definitely go back here. Loved it.

Lake Front Family Home Review

  • 4 of 5

This lake front home was beautiful. It had such charm, with a lake home/cabin feel both inside and out. The property was clean and well maintained. The owners of the home provided family history about the home, and there were many family photos in the house. The owners made sure to let me know that they were glad to be able to share their family home with guests that also enjoy a beautiful, relaxing, peaceful place to stay. They provided information about local restaurants, shopping, and places of interest. Within the first hour that I was there, a Bald Eagle landed on a tree straight out from the screened in back porch (which has a Tiki Bar, complete with lights!). The eagle was beautiful! I would highly recommend this property. I plan on staying there again!

Bachelorette Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing girls trip here!!! The owner was so kind and helpful and willing to go above and beyond to make our stay as wonderful as possible!! She made sweet little muffins, brought us a crock pot to cook in and extra patio cushions when ours got wet from the rain. All without us even asking!!! We would love to return and stay in her sweet little cottage home anytime!!

Excellent place to relax and get away!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The house is charming with ample amenities and room. The view is spectacular, along with easy waterfront access. The screened in back porch provides a place for relaxation without imposing on the view. I would highly recommend staying here and plan to return soon!

A Great Place to Get Away!!

  • 5 of 5

The house on Pickwick Lake had everything advertised and more! Amazing views of the lake from both the spacious living room and huge screened-in porch. Just minutes from great places to eat in the downtown area, also had everything needed to cook anything you could want at home. Property was amazing and comfortable with a great deck to lay out on closer to the water and plenty of yard for kids and pets to play in! Enjoyed our stay immensely and plan to spend our anniversary here again next year! Had access to kayaks, paddleboards and canoes too! Highly recommended, 10/10!

Love this place!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed here several times with either my immediate family or friends. It is very relaxing and accommodating. Plenty of room! We usually paddle board or canoe or someone meets us there with their boat to water ski. It is an older house built in the 50's or so but had a great remodel and a fabulous screened-in deck. Gas stove is terrific! Great place for our class party a while back! Beds are super comfortable and very clean. Judy is a wonderful host and easy to contact-very helpful!
