About the property

Stylish And Comfortable Three Bedroom Home On Pickwick Lake Main River Channel

Our waterfront comfortable, mostly remodeled home is family-friendly and available to guests. It's a ranch style house built in 1960 and situated in a family neighborhood in which many homes are vacation/second homes. Most rooms offer a beautiful view of lake. This relaxing, comfortable home sleeps eight+ (5 traditional beds, two sofa sleepers, a queen-size hanging/swing bed). Features include a spacious screened in porch with lots of comfortable seating for large gatherings and a swing bed,. There's a large multilevel deck which leads to a wooden staircase and on to the lakefront, where the fishing is at its best! We have two fire pits available for bonfires and marshmallow roasting. If you're coming to tournament fish, this home is ideal for both tournament participants as well as their family members who may observe the action on Pickwick Lake from the decks or screened porch.

We also have a private pier with boat mooring that may accommodate your boat docking needs. Water levels and conditions fluctuate, so inquire about current conditions if water activities are in your plans. Feel free to bring paddle boards, jet skis, canoes, boats and other water toys.

Our Pickwick Lake home is located just five miles west of the quaint Norman Rockwell-ish town of Tuscumbia, recently ranked among the top ten most charming small towns in Alabama. It's about an hour west of Huntsville/Madison County on one of the most peaceful and lovely sections of the Tennessee River. Pride Landing launch ramp is located about five miles west of the home by land, about 5 minutes by boat. Florence Marina/McFarland Park is about 23 minutes away by road, 15 minutes by boat. Local fishing on Pickwick, Wilson and Wheeler Lakes is easily accessible. We can recommend fishing guides, as well

Local attractions include the popular Rattlesnake Saloon, a restaurant in a cave, (recently featured on Food Network), Ivy Green (the birthplace of Helen Keller) and Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve (featuring "The Most Spectacular View in Alabama," according to Backpacker Magazine), two Robert Trent Jones Golf Courses about 15 miles away, and the University of North Alabama in nearby Florence, Willows Day Spa about 5 miles away in Tuscumbia, and many others.

The fourth generation of our family is now enjoying our home and we would love to share it with you. The water is beautiful all times of year, although water levels at our pier and conditions do fluctuate seasonally. The serene, lovely location make this home perfect for a get away. Email us with any questions you many have!

We ask that you follow our checklist for picking up the house before departing.

Check in after 3 pm, unless other arrangements have been made with owner.

Check out 11:00am, unless other arrangements have been made.

Home is not recommended for children under age 12 for safety reasons. The house is located directly on the lake with no barrier between the house and lake.

About Judy

We (property owners Tim and Judy Hendrix Kirchner) grew up in this area and we were fortunate to be able to keep this home in the family when Judy's mom decided to sell and move into town. We both graduated from the University of North Alabama in nearby Florence; Judy was a teacher for many years and Tim went on to the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Engineering School, earning a degree in electrical engineering. We lived for almost 20 years in the Marshall Islands on the island of Kwajalein, and now we split our time between Huntsville, where Tim continues to work in missile defense, and our lake house on Locust Shores, where Judy loves fulfilling her dream of owning a bed and breakfast. We have two grown children, Julianne, a nurse who is married and lives in Washington, D.C., and Graham, also married, who attends medical school at UAB.

Judy purchased this house in 1991

Why Judy chose Tuscumbia

For going on six decades this home on Pickwick Lake has been in our family. Judy and her sisters were raised in this home; we were blessed to be able to keep it in our family to be loved by our fourth generation. It has been our gathering place for over half a century because we love the beautiful, restful atmosphere the home has to offer. It's an older, comfortable, happy place for friends and family to gather to enjoy water activities, play games, watch waterfowl, fish, read, or to just relax.

What makes this house unique

Great for tournament fishing participants! Directly located on Pickwick Lake, part of the Tennessee River, this area is known for great fishing year round. Located just 10 minutes from Pride Landing Launch Ramp, and only 13 miles, (about 20 minutes by car, seven miles by water) from Florence Marina/McFarland Park. There's plenty of boat parking in our double driveway. Fishing from our private pier is another option, or guests may use our canoe for fishing or just relaxing on beautiful Pickwick Lake. Ask about lake conditions if water activities are part of your plans. Great for family members and friends of fishing tournament participants as you may watch the action from the screened porch or decks!

Notes:
Our lake home is a wonderful gathering place for friends and family. Its location on beautiful Pickwick Lake provides a serene setting for romantic getaways, and it's a prime fishing spot for sporting weekends. Great choice for fishermen/ladies (and their friends and families) who are participating in tournaments as launch ramps are just minutes away. There are two Robert Trent Jones golf courses in this area. Nearby Wilson Dam has one of the largest locks in the world. The Shoals area is the birthplace of the "Father of the Blues", W.C. Handy, who is celebrated with a blues festival every August and Helen Keller, whose festival takes place every year in the last week of June. Wonderful "Willows Spa" located just 5 miles away in Tuscumbia. House is located in a neighborhood with mostly similar single family homes in a rural locale. Neighborhood is usually quiet, as many houses are second homes, infrequently used. Not recommended for children under 12 for safety reasons.

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house is very comfortable, clean, and has a beautiful view. The place feels very homey and welcoming. It had everything we needed for our stay. We spent hours on the screened porch just relaxing and staring out at the water. We also had a great time exploring downtown Tuscumbia, which is a lovely small town that takes pride in its history. We actually had planned to spend more time seeing the sights, but were enjoying the house so much, we kept finding ourselves coming back here earlier than planned to just spend time here. Also, we usually travel with our dogs, but we have never seen them so at home in new surroundings as they were here! They loved it as much as we did! Thanks so much for a wonderful, relaxing time.

Wonderful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful place to stay! The owners were delightful and clearly cared about making our stay the best it could be. The house is child friendly, which was a huge plus. My favorite place was sitting on the screened-in porch on the swing, looking out at the water. The home is charming with lots of room and we were able to cook all of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The area is quiet and we enjoyed taking walks around the neighborhood. We plan to visit again soon!

Loved the view.

  • 3 of 5

3 due to extremely steep spiral steps. Need better hand rail to prevent any other falls.

5 for Flowers and bird feeders were located so could sit on porch and enjoy the morning. Few holes in screen and it had opening at roof but it was great at slowing down the many bugs.

Padding for chairs were a good touch otherwise I couldn't have used the swing. Due to injuries from my fall down the steps. Also has a dated feel remind of sitting with grandparents metal rocker and glider.

Owners were very nice and checked on me daily even made brownies for us

Fishing off the dock. Caught enough catfish for dinner. Even roasted marshmallows. My grandson had a blast.

Had a view of river from every room on backside of the house
