This was our second time in one year staying at this gorgeous home! We just love the availability (free!!!) of the kayaks and bikes. This time, we took the bikes everywhere: from the private beach club nearby to the village for brunch! We had so much fun. The house is immaculate, gorgeously appointed and in the perfect location. Thanks Stephanie for being such a fantastic hostess and generous owner! We'll be back soon!!!! Rick and Co
Such a beautiful house can't wait to see it in summer time. For my stay they expected snow and boy did we get some but as we arrived to the house the drive way was already cleaned and salted to make sure we arrived safely Teresa was there waiting to greet us. The house is as beautiful outside in, we felt welcomed like if we were staying at a five star hotel. Teresa even bought us a cake for my baby's first birthday how sweet of her! Everything was great and the lake looked beautiful. Too cold to go out but for sure will return in the summer to take advantage of the lake pass and the kayak they provide for us.
The house was very spacious, the furnishings and bedding were clean, comfortable and nice. Stephanie and her local assistant were easy to deal with. But the property itself was merely average. The lake access was not nearly as close as advertised in the photos. It was down a LONG flight of stairs that made access difficult for the youngest and oldest members of our party. My father was looking forward to fishing off the pictured dock, but there is no dock access (to be fair the listing does not describe dock access, but the photos led us to believe there would be access). The lake itself was very low and swampy so there was no real beach/lake access walking distance from the property (part of that is due to the drought I'm sure). We used a kayak one day but had to strap it to the top of one our vehicles and take it to the beach club. I can't imagine anyone walking it down the stairs to the swampy bay.
If you are a large group and are planning only cabin based activities this is a fine, affordable option. But of the cabins I've VRBO'd in Lake Arrowhead it falls towards the middle/lower half of the pack.
I wasn't planning on writing a review but last week I got an e-mail from the owner asking me to write a review -- and offering me a 20% discount on a future stay for a five star review. That gave me special motivation to write this review. I always read all the reviews before booking a property and have always trusted that they are honest opinions. I am now questioning some of the five star reviews on this property and wanted to add a truly honest review to the mix.
Our family spent four nights in this spacious home in Lake Arrowhead and enjoyed it all. Plenty of room for all 8 of us with everything we needed The owner was easily accessible for questions when we arrived. The only downsides were the lack of air conditioning (it was a particularly hot few days) and the fact that there was not any usable lake access within walking distance (this could have been due to the low water level). Other than having to get into the car each day to enjoy the lake it was great!
First and foremost, I want to say that we had a great time, and that is purely based on the fact that we were with family. We chose this particular property that was more expensive than the rest we were looking at because for the outstanding reviews. Theresa and Stephanie were very accommodating with us wanting to check in a couple of hours early which was very nice. However, we told them we had 7 adults and one toddler staying. When we arrived there were only 4 towels to bath. The carpets were smelly and the whole place smelled musty upon arrival along with the overbearing scent of cleaners to hide the smell. The Uppermost toilet has a faulty wax ring under it so the dirty toilet water gushes out of the bottom of the toilet (not overflowing) and seeps through the floor into the kitchen where it waterfalls from the ceiling. There is evidence to support the fact that this has 100% happened before and it was not handled previous to arrival of new guests (we are a family of contractors) there is watermarks. When we contacted Theresa about the toilet she instructed us to turn off the water, which we had already done, and she arrived within an hour to help us with the problem. She cleaned the bathroom floor with bleach which was nice, but the only way she handled the carpet was to soak it up with towels (which we were already low on) when i asked for the carpet to be cleaned she said "of course we will clean it after you leave." So, for the duration of the stay we all had to wear shoes all the time scared of what the carpet may hold. There was no compensation awarded or offered in exchange for having to essentially live in sewage. We understand it is not a hotel and they cannot just switch rooms for us, however it is very disgusting to stay in an environment that is not sanitary.
We had a very nice stay. The house was very clean, airy and very peaceful. The house was within 50 yards to the steps to the hiking path and lake on the north shore. The market and restaurants were 20 mins away. Kayaking & fishing gear on site were terrific for us since we enjoy outdoorsy activities. Our host Stephanie was very attentive, insightful as to family and pet friendly things to do around town. She even provided a dog bed and doggy dishes for our pooch-thank you again for everything!
