Camas Flats #3 is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment that sleeps 1-4 people. It is located above the largest yarn shop in Montana, and has been extensively renovated by the owners to be clean, comfortable, and convenient. It is one of three flats on the second floor, all operated as VRBOs.

About Melanie Cross

Melanie loves to knit and to design knitwear, and her yarn shop keeps her busy. Andy is a finish carpenter and spends a lot of time at the shop as well. (He designed and built the storefront after Melanie fell in love with the look of the old buildings in Berlin.)

Melanie and Andy enjoy fishing and other outdoor activities, and have traveled the world visiting their adventurous children.

Melanie Cross purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Melanie Cross chose Montana

Melanie and Andy bought a beautiful old building on Kalispell's Main Street in 2007, then spent a year renovating it top to bottom with a dream of opening a yarn store and providing luxury urban apartments for rent. This is their first forray into VRBO, and they're excited to offer three centrally-located flats.

Ideal location

  • 4 of 5

Downtown flat, clean and modern decor. Bed comfortable and sofa bed no so much. (But never known sofa bed to be comfortable) ... used as home base for visiting all local sights.

Nice place to stay...if you aren't going to stay...

  • 3 of 5

The good: Great location, easy walking to restaurants/bars/shopping; nicely appointed for a condo in older building, plenty of closet space. Nice to have laundry.

The bad: Be prepared to stock the common items. We've stayed in 4 other condos in the area and have never been so sparsely furnished. Only one bar of soap the size of a domino, only one roll of toilet paper. Condo has glass blocks and no windows, so no way of looking out and can seem closed in, especially if the cable is out. Check in/out times are later and earlier than other condo experiences, forget about getting in earlier or later, housekeeping controls the schedule. Out of their control.

The ugly: Cable went out on Friday evening, I texted owner to let him know, even gave him my convo with Dish. Oh yes, another tenant also reported it. Back in the condo Saturday night, still no cable. His response: "Sorry about the lack of TV, out of my control". Now we didn't come here to watch TV, but news and weather would be nice, especially with hurricane in Florida. Also, there is NO DVD or stereo/music option. Thank goodness it was our anniversary! Speaking of housekeeping, not sure they are doing their job. Condo cabinets had only one coffee mug and no dinner plates. On last night we found dishes ... in the dish washer....guess housekeeping is busy working.

Overall, not a horrible stay, just disappointed with the experience and lack of hospitality. Even our experience with Motel 6 was this good. Won't return, will go back to Whitefish or Bigfork.

Others may have a better experience, but be aware!

Owner's Response: Unfortunately we could not fix the TV for these guests. After climbing up on the roof of the building, we noted the satellite wire had been damaged. This was something we could not fix and were at the mercy of the satellite company on when they could get the repair done. All quests were informed of the problem with our apologies. We hire a quality private cleaning company who has outstanding reviews. Out of respect to their business and time schedule, we hold to our advertised check in and check out times, which are VRBO standards. They are on a tight schedule to get the Flats clean in time. Here is a list of what we stock in each of our Flats: plates, coffee cups, spoons, forks, knives, glasses, wine glasses, cooking utinsils ,pots and pans, mixing bowls, measuring spoons and cups, cookie sheet, potato peeler, cutting board, set of sharp knives, can opener, wine opener, coffee maker, toaster and of course stove, microwave, etc. We supply one laundry pod, one dishwasher pod and a big bottle of dishwashing liquid. Dish towels and cloths, sponge, paper towels and dish rack. Toilet paper, personal sized shampoo, conditioner and soap. Hair dryer, iron and ironing board. Extra blanket and extra set of sheets, towels, washcloth and bathmat. As for the dishes in the dishwasher, we have notified them to always put the dishes back in the cupboard, which they normally do. We always try to take care of our guests and the care of our building. These guests were naturally put out that their TV was not working, we understood, but there was nothing we could do but wait for the cable co. They turned to anger when we couldn't grant their request for a late check out as compensation. We were then threatened that they would give us a bad review.

Camas Flats - Kalispell Montana

  • 4 of 5

This is the second time we have stayed here with our pets. The premises are clean and well maintained. I have recommended this destination to friends and we would return again.

On one occasion, we returned to find the allocated parking spot occupied by a third party vehicle which was not moved for 5 hours. We were inconvenienced by having to find on-the-street parking that had a 2 hour limit.

Owner's Response: There are signs up designating each parking spot for Flat #1,#2 and #3. If at any time there is someone in your parking spot please call Melanie 406-212-2438 or Andy 406-212-1954. We will take care of the problem. Our guests should not have to park on the street. Please let us know.

Pretty condo in a great location

  • 4 of 5

This condo was really pretty...it looked just like the photos. Spotless when we arrived. Check-in instructions were easy to follow. Comfy bed. Excellent location...an easy hour drive up to Glacier each day. We enjoyed walking to dinner each night...lots of good restaurants within a couple of blocks. Kitchen could have used a few extra plates and coffee mugs (there were 4 of each). Kind of odd with the glass block Windows everywhere....we could only see outside from the Windows behind the bed. A little noisy...we were in the back unit, so a little less road noise than the front, but the people coming and going to the other units made quite a bit of noise coming up and down the metal stairs in the back and walking up and down the wooden hallway. Overall a great place to stay. If we were coming to the area again, we would definitely stay again.
