About Darlene - A1 Vacations Customer Since July 1998

We have been serving renters for 33 years, with cabins of all sizes and from Sonora lodge to Pinecrest, Strawberry and Leland Meadows. From 1-7 bedrooms, sleeping 2-30, 1-4 baths. Great family fun vacation rentals. When we started 33 years ago the cabins didn't have TV, vcrs were new but we thought people would want the rest and relaxation of the great outdoors. The cabins had books and board games! There was no such thing as WiFi or cell phones. I still remember car phones in a bag in the 90's. Things have really changed since then. Now there's Verizon cell coverage. Originally I did it myself, booked, cleaned, hauled wood, shoveled snow. Then it became a family thing! My 7 kids grew up with the business. It's still very much a family business we all do our very best! 2093520161

Nice comfortable stay

  • 4 of 5

We had a very good stay. It was close to Pinecrest, 10 minutes by car. The back patio was nice to have our breakfast and dinner among the trees, stargaze at night. The criticism we would have it was very hot and stuffy when we came home, with no air conditioning. Thank goodness for ceiling fans and a box fan. It was so well equipped in the kitchen there was no need to bring anything but paper goods. Very nice and clean and comfortable.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We understand it's been hot up here for all of us. The tree loss and cutting have changed our summer. We make sure the cabins have fans. So glad you enjoyed the cabin. It is a great family fun place. The deck backs up to national forest and is very peaceful. It was a pleasure to serve you! Thanks, Darlene

an OK vacation cabin

  • 3 of 5

On the plus side, the cabin is located in a forested section of Strawberry, about 5 miles from the lake. It is in a quiet neighborhood, the house is spacious and has a large deck. The kitchen is adequate except for being a bit short on microwaveable cookware and serving dishes. There is an AIWA CD player, but we couldn't get it to work.

The website where we made the booking said that bedding and towels were provided. However, there were no towels for the kitchen, so we used bath towels and feel we were overcharged for linens. We will not be repeat customers

Owner's Response: Hi, thank you for your comments. We appreciate your time. The sheets and towels for the beds are provided. We do however offer those to compensate for the service fees charged by homeaway. We do provide guests with all the information for the things necessary for a great stay. It is a lovely cabin and the view from the deck out back with nothing but forest is wonderful. Thanks, Darlene

A good stay!

We enjoyed our weekend - the cabin was clean and easy to access and comfortable for our family of 5. Close to Dodge Ridge for skiing. Nothing too fancy, but cozy and convenient.

Overall okay - condo rental was reasonable

  • 3 of 5

Firstly there is absolutely no wifi access in the condo nor is there any cell coverage whatsoever (for ATT). This really was completely crippling as we had no means of getting connectivity. Would be good to have this stated in the rental details for the condo so that we could come prepared. Second we had a major power outage for over 6 hours and one party decided to stay at Sonora since the power wasn't expected back until the following morning. Given all the inconvenience, even though this was completely out of anybody's control, it would've been nice to receive some compensation for our stay. Lastly, this is the first rental in our experience where thermostats were all under lock and key and we were told to use wood burning as an alternative for additional heat. It was only after a lot of back and forth and many cold hours that this was fixed. Somewhat absurd to have to justify why some of us would like to feel more comfortable with a little more heat in the middle of winter!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. The power was out county wide out of my control. But the cabin is advertised wood for heat, wood provided. The electric heaters are set at 67 at night and 65 during the day when people are out. The woodstove heats from there. I txt you with pge updates you received each and answered, your cell was working. You answered you were out with friends and would be back later. Electric heat doesn't work in a power outage. We brought candles and flashlights at 8pm you weren't there. The power came on at 10pm. It's not going to get warm fast when the woodstove wasn't used and the power just came on. The cabin is not a condo in case someone reads this. It is not advertised with wifi. We do post Verizon works and Verizon wifi works. I'm glad you managed to enjoy yourself it is a cozy cabin and the area Is beautiful. We do our very best to make sure everyone is happy and safe. Thanks, Darlene

My family and I really enjoyed our stay! We decided a last minute trip to Pinecrest and Darlene Cabins was able to accommodate us. Cabin was very clean and just 3 min from lake. We enjoyed every day at the lake hiking, kayaking and just relaxing. I highly recommend cabin and visit to Pinecrest lake to everyone. Thank you for a great memory!!
