From Casa la Selva you are 50 steps to the sand of Playa Iguana and surf spots like Colorados and Panga Drops, offering some of the best surf in Central America. The house is designed for luxury and surfing, with secure outside surf closets, and is located approximately half-way between two world-class surf breaks, Colorados and Panga Drops, with several other peaks inbetween. Casa la Selva hosted the 2012 ISA Hawaiian Surf Team (including Sunny Garcia, Rochelle Ballard, & Mike Latronic) who won first place at the event held at our famous beach break, Colorados. See their testimonials below.
No matter what kind of board you ride, there are several different types and sizes of waves waiting for you at Casa la Selva. And we can arrange surf tours (by boat or auto) to some of the other surf spots nearby that Southern Nicaragua has to offer. We can also set up a surf photographer for your session (or for any activity).
Playa Iguana/Playa Colorado, including Colorados & Panga Drops surf breaks, is one of the country's finest surfing locations. Colorados is a hollow, tubing beach break with many peaks, while Panga Drops is a mellower A-framing rock reef & sand break. And there are several other peaks/breaks along our ½ mile stretch of beach.
GOLF AND MORE!
Located within our quaint Hacienda Iguana community, the golf course is the only coastal golf course in Nicaragua. This 9 hole course is less than 1/2 mile from Casa la Selva and is virtually yours as you play with no crowds whatsoever and with its perfectly manicured year round conditions. The course really is a lot of fun, with a beautiful, tropical environment and some amazing views. Our renters also have full access to Iguana's Beach Club located near the Colorados surf break a couple hundred yards down the beach from Casa la Selva; it contains a swimming pool, relaxation area, a restaurant, a beach side bar, BBQ, palapas, and volleyball court.
In the community of Hacienda Iguana there are a few restaurants on site (and several more close by). Pili's kitchen is located right down the street at the Beach Club and offers mediterrannean home cooking (see the excellent restaurant reviews on line). Also there is Don Eloy's restaurant & bar that serves some basic foods, including sandwiches, salads, wings and pizza. A small cafe with basic breakfast, lunch, and smoothie items is also available. And there are a handful of other local restaurants out the front gate in the nearby towns, including a beautiful restaurant on the ocean within Rancho Santana (reservations required).
MASSAGES AND YOGA
Massages and Yoga, by trained/experienced professionals, can be scheduled at the house for your convenience, also regular sessions are available across the street (at Mark & Dave's Place), and also on site at The Aqua Spa which is located near the local town of Gigante, a 20 minute drive/taxi down the beach. Aqua is tastefully built into a local hillside with incredible private/couple massages, yoga classes/sessions, beautiful views, including a quiet beach cove, and a quaint restaurant and beach-side bar. A 'must visit.'

We are two couples from the San Francisco Bay area who have been dear friends and long-time travel companions. We decided to purchase property in this beautiful area and build a vacation home together.
Dave purchased this house in 2012
Captivated by its wild beauty, charming people, and consistent high quality surf, we fell in love with the Pacific Tola Riviera on our first visit in 2008.
Surf the Pacific Coastline of beautiful Nicaragua.
Casa La Selva is 50 steps from the beach and world-class surf breaks, Colorados and Panga Drops.
With year round swells, surfing is always an option. No matter what kind of board you ride, there are several different types and sizes of waves waiting for you, just steps away from Casa la Selva.
We had a great time! My husband and I stayed in the Casita for 10 nights and when arrived James had 2 bikes waiting for us; the best mode of transportation within Hacienda Iguana. The locals were super friendly. Cook for yourselves or have it catered through James...that's the best way to go! The restaurants within the community left us unsatisfied and wishing we cooked "at home". We especially loved the fisherman who showed up almost everyday on his motorcycle with a cooler full of fish, lobster and shrimp. For a short adventure outside the gate go to Pili and Mon's Kitchen. Fantastic food and totally unexpected. Two cool Spanish chicks cooking their butts off!
We came to Nicaragua to escape the busyness of everyday life and if you are looking for sunshine, beaches, relaxation and good surf this is the place to visit! We will definitely be back soon. Thank you James and we'll see you again real soon!
My husband, brother and girlfriend loved staying at Casa La Selva! It was clean, close to the beach, and the pool and outdoor shower were added bonuses. David was very helpful and answered all of our questions right away. The crew kept the house and property extremely clean. It's so close to beach and also felt very safe. My husband took advantage of the great surf across the street and I enjoyed going to yoga classes across the street at Mark and Dave's. Iguana beach club was also great for food, drinks and the pool. I definitely would stay at Casa La Selva again and highly recommend it!!
Casa La Selva is a slice of heaven. My family lives in Costa Rica and we journeyed to Hacienda Iguana for a week during spring break and we could not have picked a better home to rent. La Selva is very nice, clean, secure and an extremely short walk to the beach. It was stocked with everything we could have needed. Our family of surfers LOVED the proximity to some of the best breaks in Central America just across the street. We opted for the catered option which I would highly recommend, the food was delicious and it took the difficulty out of trying to coordinate food and shopping (which is not close). David and James and the rest of the staff are TOP NOTCH. As an owner of a rental property in Costa Rica, I wish this crew could manage our home as well, they were amazing. We will for sure venture back to Casa La Selva in the future, it was one of the best spring breaks we've ever had. Bravo!!
Words don't do it justice... The people, the love, the food and the waves! So stoked my hombres and I got to spend the time down here and score all around!
This house is so unbelievably comfortable and convenient to the best waves that I can't not tell everyone to check into it... Surfer, or not.
David and his team at NSR made for an epic stay and kept in touch with us for our needs and just good conversation.
Can't wait to go back. Casa la Selva is a must for any Hacienda Iguana stay!!
If you are visiting Nicaragua with your girlfriend, this locations is perfect! I stayed at La Casita which is a nice little apartment behind the main Casa. The apartment had a VERY comfortable king bed (wish i could've brought it back home with me), and all the amenities of a house such as large refrigerator, big kitchen, stove, oven, washer, dryer, flat screen tv, reliable wi-fi, A/C, fans, futon, etc. It also counts with an electric generator with an automatic transfer switch that turns on when the electricity goes out. (and it goes out a lot). During my stay, the water heater was broken and we had to shower with cold water which was a setback for us, but i'm pretty sure this is something that has been fixed already.
The location is very close to Panga Drops and relatively close (walking distance) to Colorado's. The location is in a very secure part of Hacienda Iguana and it also counts with a private security guy that makes sure everything is even more secure. Make sure to stock up on groceries at the Maxi Pali before arriving there because there are only a few and VERY expensive markets close by.
The guys in charge of the property are really cool guys, especially David, which has contacts for anything you might need. He gave us the number for the local fisherman (Manuel) which became a really good friend of ours and brought us fresh mahi-mahi, lobster, octopus, shrimp on a daily basis, he even came home at night to cook us some local fresh ceviche. Also David has contacts for surf/fishing boat trips, horse rides, massages, and everything else you might need. He is always available on his phone or whatsapp.
The only bad experience for me was getting bit by a scorpion while looking for something inside my surf bag, but luckily, scorpions in Nicaragua are not deadly and all i got was a weird numbing sensation in my tongue plus a burning sensation on my hand equivalent to getting burned by a cigarrette. A great tip is: make sure to look inside any crevices or exposed pockets, corners, etc, before putting your hand inside.
Apart from this.. i can't wait to get back to Nicaragua and stay here again!! We fell in love with the offshore surf, the volcanoes, Hacienda Iguana, Popoyo, the culture, the people and everything!! If you have the budget, I recommend renting a 4x4 diesel and exploring Nicaragua. Also, download an offline map of Nicaragua via google maps so that you can use it while driving around.. it is a VERY precise way of driving.
Our goal was to find a nice place to stay that was close to good surf; Casa la Selva, with all it’s good reviews, seemed to be just that place.
Excellent choice! We spent 7 days there in August 2015, and our every expectation was exceeded.
The accommodations are top-notch; a lot of little details that didn’t matter in our younger days are so much appreciated now. Things like comfortable beds and couches, ceiling fans, air conditioning, the deck and outdoor furniture, the amazing pool, and everything is so clean!
The staff also deserves high praise; not only did they meet our every whim, but they were thankful for the opportunity, which really made us feel welcome. We opted for the food plan, which I highly recommend; home cooked, fresh and healthy meals really added to the care-free nature of our stay.
The location of the property is perfect; we felt completely safe within the Iguana community, the beach is steps away and gorgeous, and the surf is groomed by offshore winds all day and was good to great the whole time.
If you are looking to Nicaragua for your next adventure, and want to travel with the peace of mind that someone is looking out for you, then you really can’t do better than Casa la Selva.
My boyfriend and I stayed in the Casa La Selva house for 7 days, just the 2 of us and it was beyond AMAZING! I'd definitely recommend the property if you have 2 or 4 people or a big group and split yourselves between the house and casita. It was a perfect size! Because there were only 2 of us, we couldn't do the food plan, so our Nicaragua 365 driver stopped at the large grocery store on the way from the airport. It was very convenient and we got tons of food and were able to make our own breakfasts and dinners. The pool and the property itself are awesome, very crisp and clean, and I can't boast enough about the LOCATION! The house is just steps away from the beach and my boyfriend is a big surfer, so he was in Heaven (being less than a 5 min walk from Playa Colorados and Panga Drops). The beach is one of the prettiest I've ever seen and so pristine! There's not much shade, so bring a hat :)! The ocean water temperature was absolutely perfect and the STARS at night- oh my goodness! My only issue the entire week was the lack of restaurants/things to do in close proximity. I'm an adventurer and have a hard time relaxing for 7 days straight, so I found myself a little stir crazy at times. We hung out at the beach club almost every evening to watch the sunset and drink the KILLER pina coladas. Best I've ever had! Pili's kitchen also has amazing food! One day we hiked along the beach over to Playa Gigante for lunch, another day we drove over to Rancho Santana for a nice Valentines dinner, and one day we went zip-lining in San Juan Del Sur. I HIGHLY recommend visiting San Juan Del Sur for a day for some liveliness and going on the short 15 min drive to Rancho Santana. Think Santa Barbara in Nicaragua. It's a beyond BEAUTIFUL beach and setting. Make your way to the beach club for a meal! The menu is overpriced for Nicaragua, but very nice, delicious food and a little more upscale. We didn't rent a car, but I'd recommend it if you're more of an adventurer (like us). Lots of cool things to do and see within driving distance of Casa La Selva. I have so many great things to say about David and the team. They were super professional and always very on top of things... if internet went out, we needed something random, really anything they were always right there! They were very friendly, always stopped by to say hello and had exceptional customer service. Thanks to the team there for making everything so relaxing and enjoyable. We will definitely be back!
