The gardens and setting at this equestrian estate are magical and tranquil. The horses grazing in the rolling pastures add to the majestic beauty of this farm.
Luxury living set in the heart of Canby -- the garden spot of Oregon.
Steve's farm is a gem of a place to stay. It is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. Lots of privacy, but at the same time the entire farm is open to you. We couldn't have had a nicer trip.
We were welcomed with a bottle of wine left on the table for us, along with the instructions for the house! Very nice touch - Thank you, we really enjoyed the wine!
Unfortunately we arrived late, and we had a bit of trouble navigating to the rental house in the dark, due to not being very familiar with the Canby area. In the morning we were able to see that the yard was beautiful. It was spring and everything in the Canby area is in bloom! The main house is fairly close, but the configuration of windows, leaves you feeling like you have a private and secluded back yard with a beautiful lawn and flowering shrubs. Birds singing, etc. The tennis court had supplies in the garage for us to play tennis, and the pool was beautiful, although we had a rainy weekend, so we did not swim.
The horse stables were a fun visit! A baby horse had just been born, and we were able to walk down to see the horses, and the mini donkeys. Fun!
The house was very suitable to our needs. We have just a few comments to help improve the experience for others.
Both bedrooms are upstairs, and the bathroom is downstairs. We had our Mom with us, and she has trouble navigating stairs. However the house has a pull out couch downstairs in the living room next to the bathroom. The couch was very suitable for Mom, not a coil spring hide a bed, but a fairly comfortable foam pull out couch. There was extra bedding that fit the couch also. So we were really happy about this solution!
The kitchen has most everything we needed. However we could have used a lid to cover the frying pan (we cooked bacon). Fortunately, there was foil in the kitchen, and we were able to make a temporary lid. Also a small tongs would have been nice for turning the bacon and ham.
A small inconvenience with no trash cans upstairs. It would be nice to have one in each bedroom.
Other than those few recommended improvements - it was great hangout as we attended our daughter's beautiful nearby wedding! Thanks!
Perfect in every way, but there are a few cobwebs here and there with a bit of construction in progress. When the hosts catch up with their improvements this will be one of the most amazing stays near Portland.
We really loved staying at Viola Farms.
Steven and Tom were great hosts, very welcoming and easy going. Even though we live in the area, it felt like a little vacation away from home. The guest cottage is lovely and the farm is beautiful. I had fun exploring, petting the horses and relaxing with my family.
Definitely a great place to visit and stay!
Earlier this month, myself and two friends had the pleasure of spending the weekend at the Viola Farm guest house, this is a truly quiet and tranquil environment. Our hosts has us feeling right at home with a lovely "welcome" note and bottle of wine on our arrival at the guest house. The guest house has a rustic, friendly and soothing vibe...big cushy couch for watching a nice selection of provided movies, all the kitchen stuff...two bedrooms upstairs and lovely views from every window. Plus, an attached two car garage. The grounds are just beautiful, you can take a stroll or two, plus there's a good walking trail for a bit of cardio starting down past the horse barn. Oh, I don't want to forget to mention the beautiful horses and donkey's they were a real treat plus other amenities, like sauna and a workout room but heck, who worked out...we just ate, drank and shopped. :-)
The location is perfect, we wandered around Silverton (our original destination) which was a short 20 minutes away, plus hit Washington Square Mall for shopping...again only 20 minutes from the farm and Salem is only 25-30 minutes. Also a large supermarket within 10 minutes of the farm, if needed.
I have rented five other short term vacation rentals in Oregon over the past 4 years through VRBO, all good experiences, but Viola Farm guest house rental was truly a hassle free transaction, all communication was prompt, friendly and I didn't feel like I was signing my life away. Many thanks to Steven and Tom for their hospitality.
If you are reading this review, I hope you enjoy your stay at Viola Farm as much as we did. I'm looking forward to returning for another quiet weekend in the guest house.
I had a wonderful getaway weekend at Viola Farm in Canby.
The property was beautiful, with a huge array of plants and trees,
starting their spring blooms. It was great to walk down to the barn and see the horses grazing. The guest cottage was spacious and comfortable and had a garage. Steven and Tom were gracious hosts and inspired caretakers
of their property. I will definitely return.
