About Jeff Nimz

Jamey has been coming to this lake since she was a little girl. Her parents eventually purchased property on the lake and would come up quite often year round. After we were married and moved to CA we would send our boys back here for most of the summer. They really enjoyed spending their summers fishing with papa and grandma. After papa developed Alzheimers, they could no longer take care of their property. That is when we decided to purchase our own place on Lac Vieux Desert. Now our grandchildren are coming back in the summers to spend time with us. The tradition continues!

Jeff Nimz purchased this lodge in 2004

Why Jeff Nimz chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

We immediately fell in love with this property because of its location. We are surrounded by the Ottowa National Forest. It is very secluded and is the perfect antidote for our busy life out here in Los Angeles. Starting with the 8 mile drive down Indian Village Road, our stress level begins to diminish by the mile. When we pull into our driveway we feel like we have arrived in paradise.

What makes this lodge unique

Privacy, tranquility, & seclusion. Lots of room inside and out. Lakefront with sandy beach and beautiful views. Surrounded by the majestic Ottowa forest.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Brian K says...Once again the anticipation of our week long vacation at your cottage led to a great deal of excitement for my family. And once again the expectation was met with many smiles during the week. The vacation led to great memories and stories for years to come.

We did not catch as many perch this year but did manage to catch 7 walleyes over 20” with a couple of my sons catching them. The weather was good, just a little windy a couple days.

Beautiful lakeside retreat! Just what the family needed.

  • 5 of 5

We love this place! My family and I are visiting from Hawai'i, and have fallen in love with this retreat. We decided to spend our summer vacation on Lac Vieux Desert this year because my husband's family lives close, and he has such fond memories of camping here as a kid. After this vacation, I can see why!

Wilderness Bay Lodge had everything we were looking for...and more! The "cabin" is huge, and is great for entertaining! We had family over for cook-outs and lake-time fun. We were able to grill outside on the patio, and the kitchen was big enough for ALL the mom's to be in there cooking! The downstairs "man cave" was a perfect hang out - equipped with a bar, pool table, and ping pong table. There's a clean, calm, and quiet beach in a secluded bay of the lake, where our kids were able to play and swim. We all had a blast fishing off the dock. In the evening, we all gathered around the fire pit to make smores and stargaze.

We were able to launch the family pontoon and jet-ski from the public boat ramp located across the bay (a 10 minute drive, 2 minute boat ride away) and dock them right outside the lodge. The lake is beautifully scenic - we caught glimpses of deer and bald eagles from the water - and excellent for fishing and relaxing. We were even able to pull the pontoon up to a couple of the other resorts on the lake for brunch and Friday Night Fish Fry!

We could not have imagined a better vacation if we tried; the lake was magical, and this retreat was perfect. This Lodge has all the iconic charm of a "cabin on the lake" with the modern amenities of home. The scenery surrounding the lodge is so picturesque, and the cabin is absolutely beautiful; you can tell that the owners take pride in maintaining their little slice of heaven.

Thank you for the perfect vacation! I can guarantee that this will become our families summer tradition!

A wonderful family getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful week at the cabin! I woke up early every morning to watch the sunrise on the deck. With the house tucked in the bay, it was so peaceful. We went fishing and kayaking every day, and the kids especially loved fishing off the dock and playing in the sand. I have little kids so it was great to have a shallow beach area for them to play.

The house was clean and comfortable - and our kids loved the bunk beds. It rained one day we were there so we spent the day watching movies and playing pool and ping-pong.

This place is a true gem on the lake! Thanks for the hospitality!

Hansen/Roskom Family Vacation

Had a great time again At your beautiful lake home! The owners and property manager are very responsive and organized, which we really appreciate! This place is beautiful, and so peaceful and relaxing as well! The teenagers enjoy having their "space" downstairs with the ping pong and pool table as well as their own bedrooms and bathroom as well. We will not stay anywhere else on Lac Vieux Desert, thanks for having us back!

Wonderful, relaxing week...

  • 4 of 5

We rented this property for a weeklong family vacation that included 3 generations. The property is very secluded and has a beautiful yard. There were plenty of beds for all and we all slept comfortably. The home has a rustic decor that is charming. During the warmer days of our trip we utilized the nice, cool basement bar and rec room once we'd had enough sun on the private beach. We saw lots of wildlife and the kids were able to witness LOTS of turtles laying eggs all around the yard after a storm. The long dock and boat slip were useful for our pontoon trips to go fishing or to cruise out to the nearby sandbar. Being situated in the bay made it possible to safely take my 9 year old son out in the canoe. We even rented a paddle board from town and enjoyed hours of fun in the bay. The property manager was sweet and accommodating. Overall, it was a fantastic family vacation that we will remember for years to come.

Back a Second Time

  • 5 of 5

3 adults and 5 kids from 5 to 11 years old stayed here for the second year in a row. We liked it even better this year. Property was clean and had everything you could ask for. We have stayed at 5 different homes in the Land O Lakes area over the last 6 years. All of them have been nice, but this rental is clearly the best. Also, we had a very small issue with the garage door and the owner went above and beyond to fix the issue. Its good to know that if some unforseen problem does occur, it will be taken care off.

Beautifully Furnished Property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Wilderness Bay Lodge for a winter snowmobile getaway and were impressed with the quality and cleanliness of the property. The kitchen was fully stocked with plenty of quality dishes, utensils and cooking necessities. The beds were comfortable with pillow-top mattress pads and high-quality linens. The basement pool table, ping pong table, dart board and bar area were also in excellent condition. Overall, it was tastefully decorated, fully functional and had all of the amenities needed for a comfortable stay.

The owners and property manager were also very communicative and accessible, going out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed.

We would definitely consider staying there again, perhaps for a summertime visit.
