About Jeff Nimz

Jamey has been coming to this lake since she was a little girl. Her parents eventually purchased property on the lake and would come up quite often year round. After we were married and moved to CA we would send our boys back here for most of the summer. They really enjoyed spending their summers fishing with papa and grandma. After papa developed Alzheimers, they could no longer take care of their property. That is when we decided to purchase our own place on Lac Vieux Desert. Now our grandchildren are coming back in the summers to spend time with us. The tradition continues!

Jeff Nimz purchased this house in 2004

Why Jeff Nimz chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

We immediately fell in love with this property because of its location. We are surrounded by the Ottowa National Forest. It is very secluded and is the perfect antidote for our busy life out here in Los Angeles. Starting with the 8 mile drive down Indian Village Road, our stress level begins to diminish by the mile. When we pull into our driveway we feel like we have arrived in paradise.

What makes this house unique

Privacy, tranquility, & seclusion. Lots of room inside and out. Lakefront with sandy beach and beautiful views. Surrounded by the majestic Ottowa forest.

We have stayed at 5 different waterfront cabins in the Eagle River area and this was the best. There was always one or two things that we wished were different at those places, but this property had everything we could have wanted. The eight of us had plenty of room. The game room and bar w/TV was great for the rainy days. The level yard was great for the kids to play -also didnt have to climb up and down a bunch of stairs to get to the lake. The large dock was nice for fishing of off and is out of the wind for the boat - and being on LVD doesnt hurt either. The home was also very clean on arrival and is nicely decorated. We plan on being back..."

Great house and location for our family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family gets together from around the country for a week-long vacation each summer, and this was one of our favorite places we have ever rented. The location is private and remote, which was perfect for us. The house was large and had every amenity that we needed. We found everything about the property to be pristine and well thought out. Our dogs loved the opportunity to run free around the huge yard and have never had such a good location to chase a ball, even swimming for it. The house does not have air conditioning but plenty of fans. We did have one night that was warm enough to make sleep uncomfortable in mid-August, but it is the northwoods, so shouldn't be a problem usually. The only issue we had was at checkout. My sister and her husband were the last to depart, and the cleaning people came an hour early and proceeded to do the cleaning even though my sister was not ready and showed them the paperwork showing that we had the house until 10am. It was an uncomfortable situation for them to shower and complete their packing with strangers and their activity in the house. I note this cleaning crew issue only for the owner, as Jeff was perfectly responsive during the booking process and the property manager had all information well organized and seemed very conscientious, so I'm sure this won't happen to future renters.

We give this property 5 stars, fully recommend it, and we plan to return next year!

Owner's Response: Hi Emily, we are so happy to hear your family(and dogs) enjoyed your vacation. We look forward to your return. We apologize for the mixup on the checkout time. It used to be 10:00 and our cleaning crew found that didn't give them enough time to thoroughly clean the cabin and launder all the sheets and towels before the next guests arrive at 3:00. Unfortunately we failed to make the changes on the rental agreement and the cabin binder that contains all the relevant information for guests. We are now making those corrections so there will be no more confusion. Please extend our apologies to your sister and her husband for the uncomfortable situation they were put in. And thank you for bringing it to our attention. Jeff and Jamey Nimz (owners)

A perfect home in a forested lake location.

  • 5 of 5

WOW! Our family of eight all enjoyed our vacation together with everything supplied for outdoor play as well as great cooking. There were even small bluegills off the dock for those who just wanted to enjoy the peace and the eagles. One rainy day of fun indoor with a pool tournament, movies, and WiFi was great fun entertainment till the sun came out. Thank you for the thoughtful details that you provided. Bob and Marti

A vacation for all ages

  • 5 of 5

This home was an all around winner for us! We had multiple generations and families staying at Wilderness Bay Lodge and there were activities for everyone to enjoy. Since it rained for several days, we made full use of the basement with the pool table, ping pong table, TV and board games. The home was tasteful, clean and very well stocked. The owner and manager were easy to work with and very responsive. Overall a first class operation from the moment we reserved online to the time we drove off. Will definitely choose again.

Amazing Northwoods Escape

  • 5 of 5

This was our third winter getaway to Jeff and Jamey's beautiful cabin- and it was perfect as always! The house is tastefully decorated in cozy, rustic, north woods style. We always have fun watching movies that they have on hand or watching the football game in the comfortable living room with a big flatscreen tv. The basement provides hours of entertainment with a beautiful log bar, a pool table, ping pong table and dart board. Bedrooms and bathrooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. We cooked all of our meals in the well stocked and fully functional kitchen. The only reason we left the house was to walk (or ride) directly out onto the lake to go play for the day! We catch tons of fish and usually have the whole bay to ourselves. The sunsets are unforgettable. We love this place!!

Beautiful, secluded location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time here and plan to visit again. The fishing in the bay was excellent and the close proximity to the trails worked wonderfully for us. There was plenty of room for our family of seven and everyone had more than enough to do to keep them happy! One piece of advice- don't be nervous about the seemingly long road in, you will get there 😊

Owner's Response: Thanks Tricia for the great review! Its always nice to know our guests had a great time and the lodge met their needs. We would be honored to have you come back in the future! Also thanks for mentioning the road, it can be a little daunting the first visit especially in winter at night! But as you know thats what makes it so private and secluded! Regards, Jeff & Jamey Nimz
