Jamey has been coming to this lake since she was a little girl. Her parents eventually purchased property on the lake and would come up quite often year round. After we were married and moved to CA we would send our boys back here for most of the summer. They really enjoyed spending their summers fishing with papa and grandma. After papa developed Alzheimers, they could no longer take care of their property. That is when we decided to purchase our own place on Lac Vieux Desert. Now our grandchildren are coming back in the summers to spend time with us. The tradition continues!
Jeff Nimz purchased this lodge in 2004
We immediately fell in love with this property because of its location. We are surrounded by the Ottowa National Forest. It is very secluded and is the perfect antidote for our busy life out here in Los Angeles. Starting with the 8 mile drive down Indian Village Road, our stress level begins to diminish by the mile. When we pull into our driveway we feel like we have arrived in paradise.
Privacy, tranquility, & seclusion. Lots of room inside and out. Lakefront with sandy beach and beautiful views. Surrounded by the majestic Ottowa forest.
Rob G said....." We have stayed at 5 different waterfront cabins in the Eagle River area and this was the best. There was always one or two things that we wished were different at those places, but this property had everything we could have wanted. The eight of us had plenty of room. The game room and bar w/TV was great for the rainy days. The level yard was great for the kids to play -also didnt have to climb up and down a bunch of stairs to get to the lake. The large dock was nice for fishing of off and is out of the wind for the boat - and being on LVD doesnt hurt either. The home was also very clean on arrival and is nicely decorated. We plan on being back..."

great on and off access of Lake ,awesome place to be with my friends loved it was very enjoyable
We have spent two summer vacations here and absolutely love it! The house is modern, convenient and spotlessly clean. We thoroughly appreciated and enjoyed the north woods decorating theme throughout the house—so fun. The game room downstairs was great for rainy days and evening fun---We had a blast!! Same goes for the sandy beach, swimming area, and canoe for fun in the sun. The view of Misery Bay is incredible. Our craving for peace, quiet and nature was thoroughly satisfied. We caught lots of fish and saw lots of wildlife----deer, muskrats, loons, many eagles, and even three big painted turtles laying eggs in the back yard. My favorite memory was sitting around the campfire at night. There was absolute quiet except for croaking frogs and an occasional coyote howling. We were fortunate enough to be there during a full moon that was orange—breathtaking! We are always so sad to leave this very special place. Lots to see, lots to do, lots of memories to take home with you.
Once again the anticipation of our week long vacation at your cottage led to a great deal of excitement for my family. And once again the expectation was met with many smiles during the week. The vacation led to great memories and stories for years to come. We did not catch as many perch this year bud did manage to catch 7 walleyes over 20" with a couple of my sons catching them. The weather was good, just a little windy a couple days.
Another Great Vacation with the same notes above. Did manage to catch one walleye at 27"
We love this place! My family and I are visiting from Hawai'i, and have fallen in love with this retreat. We decided to spend our summer vacation on Lac Vieux Desert this year because my husband's family lives close, and he has such fond memories of camping here as a kid. After this vacation, I can see why!
Wilderness Bay Lodge had everything we were looking for...and more! The "cabin" is huge, and is great for entertaining! We had family over for cook-outs and lake-time fun. We were able to grill outside on the patio, and the kitchen was big enough for ALL the mom's to be in there cooking! The downstairs "man cave" was a perfect hang out - equipped with a bar, pool table, and ping pong table. There's a clean, calm, and quiet beach in a secluded bay of the lake, where our kids were able to play and swim. We all had a blast fishing off the dock. In the evening, we all gathered around the fire pit to make smores and stargaze.
We were able to launch the family pontoon and jet-ski from the public boat ramp located across the bay (a 10 minute drive, 2 minute boat ride away) and dock them right outside the lodge. The lake is beautifully scenic - we caught glimpses of deer and bald eagles from the water - and excellent for fishing and relaxing. We were even able to pull the pontoon up to a couple of the other resorts on the lake for brunch and Friday Night Fish Fry!
We could not have imagined a better vacation if we tried; the lake was magical, and this retreat was perfect. This Lodge has all the iconic charm of a "cabin on the lake" with the modern amenities of home. The scenery surrounding the lodge is so picturesque, and the cabin is absolutely beautiful; you can tell that the owners take pride in maintaining their little slice of heaven.
Thank you for the perfect vacation! I can guarantee that this will become our families summer tradition!
We had such a wonderful week at the cabin! I woke up early every morning to watch the sunrise on the deck. With the house tucked in the bay, it was so peaceful. We went fishing and kayaking every day, and the kids especially loved fishing off the dock and playing in the sand. I have little kids so it was great to have a shallow beach area for them to play.
The house was clean and comfortable - and our kids loved the bunk beds. It rained one day we were there so we spent the day watching movies and playing pool and ping-pong.
This place is a true gem on the lake! Thanks for the hospitality!
Had a great time again At your beautiful lake home! The owners and property manager are very responsive and organized, which we really appreciate! This place is beautiful, and so peaceful and relaxing as well! The teenagers enjoy having their "space" downstairs with the ping pong and pool table as well as their own bedrooms and bathroom as well. We will not stay anywhere else on Lac Vieux Desert, thanks for having us back!
