The 180 yards stroll to the beach under the huge trees closing over the street is lovely, and your children are safe riding their bikes, exploring the nature trail, or playing hopscotch. Absolutely terrific rental with very responsive and helpful owners
Simple Life was absolutely perfect! The home itself has been beautifully renovated and the location is ideal. The beach is very close and the home sits under a terrific canopy of trees which keeps the decks cool during the day. Everything has been thought through from the awesome outdoor shower to the well equipped kitchen. The owners were terrific and renting was easy. Our experience at the rental was awesome and we hope to come back again!
Thank you for your considerate comments! Most of us work hard for our vacation, so it should be memorable, and in a good way! Sanderling provides the ideal location; we rouse to the challenge with the renovation: made sure everything contributes to "The Simple Life" experience: easy, comfortable and fun!
Thank you for enjoying our place, and for taking care of it well during your stay. You are always welcome back to The Simple Life!

Great house, great time!
My family (Wife, kids 9 + 12) stayed here for a week in August. The house was everything we could have wanted:
- The neighborhood is treelined, which made it look (as one daughter put it) like a fairy tale.
- The kitchen is well appointed, and has a great prep/eating island so the family could hang out while meal prep was going on.
- The furnishings are very nice and well kept -- I think it was the best decorated beach house we've been to.
- The beach is close enough that you can hop back to the house for a cold soda with no problem
We didn't use all the bedrooms, but there is a large suite on the master level that would have been perfect for inlaws. The other bedrooms are separated from the main level by a door, which meant we didn't have to worry about noise from TV / etc. when the kids went to bed.
Thanks again, we'll be back!
Thank you for the great comments. My husband and I traveled quite a bit, hence the appreciation for a well furnished, comfortable place. We kept that in mind during our renovation and decorating. Not a lot of unneseccary nonsense, just things that enhance The Simple Life!
Of course we can't really take credit for the lovely tree lined street, but we are so happy that you liked it, and can't wait to have you back in The Simple Life!
Wonderful beach house!
The Simple Life is simply perfect for a family vacation!! We had plenty of room for two families to stay comfortably here. We had a great time putting together a puzzle and there were board games, books and even a kite that we could play with. The kitchen is very nice and had plenty of pots, pans and dishes so we were able to cook dinner a few nights since eating out every night can get expensive. The house is located around a lot of trees which kept the sun off of us while we used the outdoor shower to get all the sand washed off everybody. There is also a open garage area where we could put all of the kids beach toys and boogie boards. This house also had a nice outdoor seating area with a screened in porch that kept the bugs off us while we sat out there in the evenings. The master bathroom was so nice. The shower was huge and it was definitely a fun experience to use it! The owners are really nice and gave us all sorts of recommendations of things to do in the area around the 4th of July. The beach was a very short walk to the beach and we had access to a swimming pool to help us cool off after our daily adventures in the outer banks. I definitely recommend staying at The Simple Life!!
We are so happy that you enjoyed The Simple Life and all it offers! We think of it as our home, and furnished it accordingly, so one can be comfortable, have family meals in several designated locations, and just relax under the trees!
You were great guests, come back again!

Great Trip to Duck!
This house worked wonderfully for our two families of four (with kids' ages ranging from 5 years to 6 months). The house appears to have been recently and very nicely renovated, and is situated on a nicely landscaped lot. We loved using the spacious kitchen and the shower in the master bedroom on the main floor. It also was helpful to have a second master suite upstairs. The beach is only a short walk down a quiet street, and it is easy to get over to the pool near the Sanderling resort. We would definitely rent again!
Thank you for the kind words! So glad that you found our house comfortable, well appointed and well furnished! It is like feathering your nest; keep finding nice things that fit well into the space and the beach environment! We hope you come back to The Simple Life! It is also great in the off season, with no crowds, no traffic, curling up with a glass of wine at the fireplace or cooking a great meal with friends in that huge kitchen....

Perfect location, spacious and updated home !
This is our 3rd stay in Sanderling after 20 years of summers spent in Pine Island. Sanderling has all the amenitiies and proximity to the beach as Pine Island but also has the wooded canopy and classic beach cottage charm, while not losing any modern convenience. Simple Life should be named Wonderful Life, it would certainly be more appropriate :)
Wow, "wonderful life"! I like it!
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Please keep coming back every year! We will consider re- naming the house for you! 😊
We really ejoyed our stay this summer. The house was perfect for two families - enough space to spread out, and great common areas. Proximity to the beach was key. Really enjoyed the beach after dark, as well as watching the sunset from the community dock. Very quiet and safe neighborhood. Would highly recommend this house!
Dear Beth, thank you for your review! Yes, we also think that our house is the greatest, and in the best, safest, prettiest neighborhood of the Outer Banks! We love to share it with appreciative guest such as you and your family, and hope that you will come again to enjoy The Simple Life!
Some of the Things to do Besides the Obvious: Sanderling Pool & Tennis Courts: About ¾ of a mile north, an easy bike ride, are the Sanderling neighborhood amenities. Take a picnic as there is no food close by except for dressier occasions. There are snacks and sodas for purchase from the attendant. Sanderling’s Dock at Sunset: As you walk out of the neighborhood, cross Duck Road and walk slightly south. You’ll see a Sanderling marker. Walk through the trees at the marker and you’ll see the dock. Sunset is spectacular here. Crabbing: A great pastime for kids Go to Bob’s Bait and Tackle in town. It’s a small shack on the sound side. He’ll outfit you with strings, weights and chicken necks or backs. He’ll also show you how to use them. Biking: This is the most popular activity in the area. The best bike rental shop is on the ocean side in a small, stand-alone building. The owner is always on the premises and will take great care of you. Biking at the beach is easy for all ages and skill sets. Great bikeway from Sanderling to Duck. Ride into town one morning for breakfast at the Duck Deli. It’s about three miles each way. Duck Watersports is practically across the street from Sanderling’s entrance. It’s just a little south on Duck Road. It has wave runners, para-sailing, wind surfing and kayaks. Fort Raleigh, The Lost Colony, Manteo & Dolphin Tours: English settlers led by Sir Walter Raleigh docked in Manteo, NC and started one of the earliest English colonies in America. It’s south and east of the cottage by about 45 minutes. There is a small museum as well as beautiful English Gardens. If you expect a giant stockade type fort, you’ll be disappointed. The “fort” is really just a short, four-sided burmed hill, but it’s still worth the wooded walk. The main attraction is The Lost Colony. It is a bigger than life outdoor drama performed by some of North Carolina’s finest aspiring actors for 73 years. The show was written by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Green, who became the king of outdoor drama with this show as well as one in the NC mountains called Unto These Hills. There’s not a bad seat in the house, but you should reserve tickets before you go because it is hugely popular. Kids love the cannon fire, Indians and pilgrims. The theatre overlooks the sound and is a gorgeous sight. It makes you realize why a colony was started there. Manteo is a fun little town. Along the sound and one block back are cute shops and eateries. There are also a number of boats offering Dolphin Tours. The dolphin tours are just okay. Many times there are no dolphins sighted. If you’re just up for a boat ride, go for it. You’ll see the Wanchese fishing village and the Bodie Island Lighthouse as well as lots of birds. See the Outer Banks from the Air: If you really want to see the lay of the land, take a flight over the islands. The ride in an open cockpit tail dragger was a thrill for those in our family who aren’t big chickens. Wanchese: Go to Wanchese about 4:00 pm. It’s a good 45 minutes from the cottage, but definitely worth the drive. This is a working fishing village, so if you’re lucky you’ll see rusty trawlers and men in waders loading or off-loading the day’s catch at “Fisherman’s Warf”, and the address (4683 Mill Landing Road Wanchese, NC 27981, 252-473-6004) . Wright Brothers Memorial: a must see for kids and flight buffs of all ages. The Wright Brothers of Ohio, credited with the first air plane flight, achieved their fame at Kitty Hawk. A replica of the plane is on site. Definitely worth your time! Wild horse tours: descendents of Spanish ponies roam the beach about 20 miles north of us. Don't miss the guided tour in an SUV. The guides know where the horses are-and remember to take your camera! NC Aquarium, Roanoke: about 45 minutes south of the cottage on Roanoke Island: while it is constantly improving, it is still mainly for young children. Currituck light house: fully restored and still working today, it is about 25 minutes north of the cottage and a must see! If you have the time, also che4ck the Bodie and Cape Hatteras lighthouses (the last one is a full day trip!)
