About Andy Shulman
A Flight Attendant with a major Airline for over 40 years, Andy loves to travel but always loves to 'come home to Maine'... how could it be otherwise as he was 2 months old when he spent his first summer there. An avid boater, make sure to ask him to take you over to the island to see the Eagles nest or to go out on an early evening shoreline cruise on his beloved 24' deck boat. As a Flight Attendant, Andy is keenly aware of people's needs and has taken his role of 'host' at the property in Maine seriously. His desire is to ensure everyone has the best time possible. Andy's motto, stolen from Margaret Merriweather Post, is: 'If you don't Look for it and if you don't ask for it, You're, more than likely not going to get it'. Andy asks his guests they NEVER begin a request or question with: 'I hate to bother you...' - he's there to BE bothered as he wants to ensure everyone has a great time.
Andy Shulman purchased this Cabin in 1949
Why Andy Shulman chose Naples
Andy's Dad, Phil (or better known as 'Uncle Phil to everyone on the lake) purchased the property in 1948, beginning to build the first cottage in 1949. The property has remained in the Shulman family with 4 generations of Shulmans creating magnificent memories over the years.
What makes this Cabin unique
Sebago Lake is world famous for its purity and is the drinking water supply for the city of Portland. The lake is as deep as 300' in the middle with wonderful sandy beaches. While the property is not directly on the lake, the large shared beach, raft and dock is, literally seconds away down a path from the house. the beach is a 'shared beach' with neighbors but, with 30' of beach virtually unused by others, the space is large enough to ensure everyone has lots of 'personal space'. A dock (for pick up and drop off) is available as well as a raft, weekly mooring rental can be made available as well. For hikers, the property abutts the Sebago Lake State Park with great, well marked hiking trails. Great eateries and shopping are nearby.

4th year in a row!
This is the 4th summer that we have traveled from Guam to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of Sylph Lodge. We can not say enough about Andy and Christopher, our amazing hosts! They always go out of their way to make sure that our stay is "just like coming home"! We really enjoyed the updates to the cabin this year, including the beautiful floors and the redone bathroom. Thanks also for adding those awesome patio chairs that included a built in wine glass holder. Who could ask for more? We are already counting the days until next summer when we can once again, return to Maine...the way life should be!
3rd year, we will be back!
This was our 3rd summer at Sylph Lodge in Naples ME and we had a blast.
We spent two weeks there this year, and spent most days at the lake - we were so lucky to have beautiful weather! The lake is very clean and the beach area is great for young children - ours are 3.5 and 5.5 and they had so much fun collecting rocks, playing in the sand, and swimming. Because the water is pretty shallow for a long time, I was actually able to sit in a chair and relax (I read two books!!!) while they played. Bliss!
Andy has updated the house since our first summer (2013) - new floors in the main living area and great new couches that are a lot more comfortable. Also the wifi is really good now - we were able to keep up with Game of Thrones via HBO go while we were away (we brought our kindle fire stick with us and plugged into the TV there). The kids enjoyed the old school VHS tapes (what is rewind?) during quiet time each afternoon.
The location is also great for day trips - we visited Portland and Freeport (both about 1 hour away) and also did a day trip to Booth Bay Harbor (just under 2 hours, but a very pretty drive if you take back roads to get there).
We had a lot of fires and s'mores and grilled most nights. The kitchen is small but has the necessities. We always take the linen package because it is just easier than packing sheets and towels for everyone! It's also great to have laundry in the house so you don't have to bring a ton of clothes.
AMAZING Family Vacation
WOW! We cannot say enough good things about Sylph Lodge. The place is immaculate, the property is well maintained, the lodge is comfortable, and the views of the lake are incredible. The hosts are courteous, friendly, and make the stay a wonderful experience. We will be going back! Thank you for such a wonderful vacation for our family!
Thanks so much for your review - we loved having your wonderful family with us at Sylph Lodge. We look forward to welcoming you all back next summer!
Regenerating the Soul !
Kim and I and the family had such an awesome time at Sulph Lodge... beyond expectations. Andy was such an awesome host that made our stay enjoyable. Andy you are right the Sylph Lodge does have a regenerating power. Looking forward to next year. 5 stars ! George & Kim
Thanks so much for your wonderful review! We very much enjoyed having your wonderful family at Sylph Lodge. We've been told Sylph Lodge is "Magical" - we are so glad you all "Caught The Magic". See you next season!!
Restorative, Fun, Family
I spent 10 wonderfully restorative days at Sylph Lodge. Family visited over the weekends and we had a wonderful time, relaxing in front of the indoor and outdoor fireplaces. I even charcoalled steaks on the indoor brazier, something that had not been done in a while! They were delicious. One nephew did go in the water!
Our hosts were, and are, terrific hosts and caring, dear people. I have begun to feel like family! Andy's blueberry muffins were yummy and so appreciated. My sister-in-law recommended that her parents rent for next summer and they booked a week. By the end of the 10 days, I was happily booked in for a summer week in 2017! Thank you for a wonderful week!!
Thanks so much for your review! You have a wonderful family and we're glad to be able to share the "Magic of Sylph Lodge" with you all.
Next summer will mark "year three" at Sylph Lodge for you - we could not be happier.
We have just returned from spending an idyllic week with our children and grandchildren at Sylph Lodge, a truly authentic Sebago Lake camp. You know you have discovered a very special home when, within 24 hours of your arrival, you book your 2nd family visit for August 2017. Andy greeted us as we drove down the driveway and his tour of the Lodge made us feel instantly at home. The accommodations were very comfortable for 6 adults and two, young children. My first memory was walking through the kitchen to the dining room and spotting the basket of homemade blueberry muffins (secret family recipe) on the table. They were delicious and enjoyed by all. We wasted no time in finding our way down to the beach. We not only had 30 feet of beachfront but a dock and a float. Our grandsons are 1 and 3 years old so the gradual entry into the water was perfect. By the end of our visit, our eldest grandson had taken a supervised "swim" out to the float. There is a large outdoor deck with a stone fireplace. It became a gathering spot for chatting/reading during the day and roasting marshmallows and making s'mores in the evening. Our children and grandchildren are very precious to us and to be able to spend a week together in this incredible setting was a blessing. What memories we made during these seven days. Now, we will begin to plan for our return next summer. Our children and their families live in Minnesota and Tennessee so this may very well become an annual family tradition. Andy and Christopher, thank you for being the MOST AWESOME hosts anyone could ever hope for. You went out of your way to make sure we had everything we needed and we sincerely appreciate your kindness.
It was a pleasure having your wonderful family at Sylph Lodge! We are already looking forward to welcoming you all back next season.
Your remarks about the "True Maine Cottage" feeling are much appreciated. The original structure was built in 1948 and has been added on to as our family grew over the years. We have worked diligently to insure we maintained the true feeling and intent of the house as we renovated and improved the house. There are few homes left that have stayed "true" to the "Maine Camp" Ideology - we think Sylph Lodge is a fine example of what you can do without sacrificing the inherent charm and warmth found in these original homes.
We look forward to welcoming you back fo your week - Summer, 2017!
