Chamonix Mont Blanc:
Chamonix sits at the foot of the majestic Mont Blanc in the French Alps and is widely regarded as the climbing, and more recently skiing, capital of the world. The town has long been known as a veritable playground for extreme sports in both summer and winter - it was home to the first Winter Olympics in 1924 - but it is also an area of outstanding natural beauty offering much to the adventurous skier and sightseer alike.
Unlike many modern ski resorts Chamonix is not a purpose built ski resort and has largely been saved from the concrete monstrosities which blight so much of the Alps. It is blessed with not only an internationally renowned ski area but also with an elegant, cosmopolitan and bustling town centre. With cobbled streets, fin de siecle villas, grand hotels and open squares Chamonix is much more than just another ski resort and has kept much of its original mountain charm and retains a very French, friendly and very alpine atmosphere.
What you can do here:
Chamonix is a large enough town to insure that there is plenty for the non-skier to do. Whatever the pace of your holiday there is an activity to suit everyone from: an impressive sports and swimming complex, beauty salons, spas, ice rink, cross country skiing, paragliding, husky sledding, guided snowshoeing, cinema, museum, casino and weekly market with fresh local produce; and a plethora of shops, designer boutiques, bars, restaurants, terraced cafés and night-clubs, Chamonix offers a combination of skiing, old town charm, après ski and shopping, which few resorts can match. Our bar and restaurant sections provide an overview of what we consider to be some of the best Chamonix has to offer as well as some little gems known only to locals.
Chamonix's Mountains and Views:
Chamonix has without doubt some of the most awe inspiring high mountain scenery to be found anywhere: the tumbling glaciers, soaring Aiguilles, one of Europe?s highest cable cars - the Aiguille du Midi at 3842m - the Mer De Glace and a beautiful alpine town and traditional mountain villages and hamlets dotted along the Chamonix valley. Whether you are looking for a skiing or snowboarding holiday or an alpine summer holiday Chamonix has the answers.

About Charlotte Dale
I met my husband at Uni and at the age of 23 we went out to the Alps with the aim of running a catered chalet company - Chalet 1802. Little did we know that we would become builders and each summer over a 10 year period we would renovate three properties. We now have two little girls and I'm an interior and lifestyle photographer, whilst my husband works in the online marketing - two skills we developed a taste for thanks to the endeavors we incurred running Chalet 1802! We are now more hands off as far as Chalet 1802 goes, so we primarily offer a self catered chalet, but if you are hoping for a more comprehensive service I am very happy to arrange this for you!
Charlotte Dale purchased this Chalet in 2004
Why Charlotte Dale chose Les Houches
Honestly, Chamonix is such a cool resort. The views are better than any other resort I've seen, the town is buzzing and the skiing is great. Summer is even better too.
What makes this Chalet unique
It's magical location and the best views in the valley. Maybe I am biased but I honestly don't think I'm exaggerating.

Great house with plenty of space to host multiple families. The views are mesmerizing, especially on a sunny day. Luxury bath products and new washer/dryer also a plus. Charlotte was super helpful and responsive.
Spectacular views in a great location
This is a great chalet for those wishing to ski the Chamonix valley. The chalet has spectacular views down the valley towards Chamonix and most of the rooms are orientated to maximise these views.
All the bedrooms have comfortable beds and linen, and with most having en suite bathrooms this was ideal for our adult family of 8. The living areas have ample seating and we all sat comfortably at the dining room table, enjoying meals together. The kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of plates, cutlery and glasses. We arrived after the shops closed so it was really appreciated to have tea and coffee available. The hot tub is great after a days skiing and is magical at night with the stars out and moonlight on the mountains.
The chalet is located just off the Kandahar ski run in Les Houches and it is lovely to be able to put your skis on just off the verandah and ski - though skiing 'in' is easy, skiing 'out' may be a challenge for beginners.
As the notes on the chalet suggest, it is advisable to rent a 4*4 in winter because the chalet does have a steep drive up. We were fortunate to have lots of snow but unfortunately did not rent a 4*4. This was still OK because we left the car at the bottom of the drive, but it does mean you have to carry food etc up to the house. Fortunately, on arrival and leaving, Charlotte met us and transported all our luggage up and down the drive.
Throughout, from booking and during our stay, Charlotte was easy to deal with and very helpful, also the guide book for the chalet she provides has lots of useful information. We have rented lots of houses and it is irritating when there are not enough basic things like dishwasher tabs, washing powder , bin liners etc etc but this was not the case here with everything well provided for our 10 day stay.
We had a great holiday. We were lucky with the weather and we all agreed that this chalet was perfect for our needs.
Perfect group retreat from work
Chalet Schuss is located right on the slopes: Ski in, ski out in perfection. The rooms are clean and neatly arranged, the owner extremely forthcoming and friendly, and the hot tub a huge plus. Can definitely recommend.
Amazing. Wunderbar. Perfect. Magnificent.
Charlotte is an amazing host. Super attentive and responsive. The pictures of the chalet are beautiful but the real live chalet is so much more breathtaking. The view alone is priceless; be it in the morning, afternoon or evening. You won't regret your stay, guaranteed. I know we'll be back. This time, we'll stay for a few weeks.
The views were indeed unparalleled
Had to pinch myself every time I looked up. The set up is great, everything works, everything was easy. Would happily come back.
Perfect Ski-In/Ski-Out Chalet !
Chalet Schuss is a luxurious chalet in one of the best locations in the Alps, with stunning views along the Chamonix Valley and direct access to the famous Kandahar piste. The chalet is exceptionally well appointed and perfect for a large group. The furnishings are comfortable and luxurious and perfect for relaxing in after a long day on the slopes.
The owners are exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area - nothing is too much trouble and you are made very welcome from the outset.
I've stayed here numerous times over the past 11 years with both family and groups of friends, as well as having hired the whole chalet for a number of corporate ski trips. I never hesitate to return to this amazing ski chalet, safe in the knowledge that the experience will be first class every time
Chalet Schuss stands by the side of the legendary Kandahar piste - thus offering the luxury of true ski in ski out convenience, which is EXTREMELY rare in Chamonix. Chamonix is world renowned as the skiing and climbing capital of the world. It hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924 and since then has been a centre for extreme sports in both summer and winter. But Chamonix offers far more to you than extreme sports. Sitting at the base of the majestic Mont Blanc (Europe's highest mountain) it is an area of outstanding natural beauty with an elegant and cosmopolitan town centre. The birthplace of alpine history and home to the magnificent Mont Blanc - at 4807m Europe's highest mountain - Chamonix boasts a superb snow record, a long season (Dec-May), unrivaled off-piste skiing, and views to die for. Indeed Chamonix has an international reputation as having some of the most spectacular, challenging and exhilarating skiing and boarding available anywhere in the world. If your looking for a family skiing holiday in Chamonix then Les Houches and Le Tour maybe your preferred ski areas. Chamonix, the resort as a whole, can seem huge and therefore rather daunting trying to work out how it all works. And, that's before we figure in the neighboring resorts. The Mont Blanc Unlimited lift pass covers 8 local and 13 regional ski areas with terrain up to 3840m, over 200 lifts and 700km of piste - with the majority of the ski areas being above 2000m. It caters for all standards, from beginners (Le Tour and Les Houches) right through to experts (Les Grandes Montets). Visit our ski areas page, for an in depth look at each of the major areas: Brevent, Flegere, Les Grands Montets, Le Tour, Les Houches and the Aiguille du Midi.

Additional information about rental rates
The chalet is accessed via it's own private drive. In the winter when there is snow on the ground you need a 4x4 with snow tires to get up the drive. If you don't have a 4x4 then you can park in our private parking space at the bottom of the drive. We have built a little shed for you to leave your skis in too. In the summer a normal car is fine to get up the drive. NB. Please note that very occasionally (once, or possibly twice a season if you are unlucky) the drive can become icy and there is little grip left. Under these circumstances we strongly advise you to park in the parking at the bottom of the drive instead of driving up. We would also ask you to contact us so we can come and sprinkle a gravel path in place for you to walk down safely.
