About the property

3 floor 3 bedroom self catering Ski & Summer chalet.

Chalet die Gletscher [“the glaciers”] is a three floor 6-8 bed luxury Swiss ski chalet with spectacular views from all rooms over the mountains and glaciers of the Lötschental Valley – off the Rhone valley - A perfect retreat for Summer or Winter.

The ski-in walk- out self-catering chalet is located in the 2000 metre high mountain village of LAUCHERNALP, three minutes from the first ski lift, shops, bars, and restaurants of the Lauchernalp Ski Field which, because of its height from 2000 metres to 3111 metres has one of the best winter snow covers in the Valais region –Because of the altitude you cannot dirve directly to the chalet in winter you must take a cable car to get to the chalet(3 min ride) there is undercover secure parking at the base of the cable car and your luggage can be transported for you and is ideal for all classes of skiers particularly intermediate and advanced skiers. Built in 2008, Chalet die Gletscher is luxuriously finished and appointed - a blend of traditional chalet design lines and 21st century glazing - fitted with almost every detail - and is surrounded by glacial mountains which are still snow capped during summer and snowed over in winter.

Spectacular Glacier and Mountain views: VILLAGE:

Lauchernalp sits immediately above the town of Wiler; located 3 km from the southern end of the Lötschberg rail tunnel [which also carries car trains] and an hourly post bus from the Goppenstein train station complete an easy air/airport train link from Basel and Bern. Geneva an is a 2 hour drive, or slightly longer by train via Brig, and Zurich is a 3 hour drive.

Chalet die Gletscher is situated opposite the Bietschhorn glacier which sits in the centre of the sitting room and bedroom windows - and the kitchen and dining areas of the salon overlook of the spectacular Langgletscher

The chalet is an excellent base for visiting the UNESCO listed Aletsch glacier from the neighbouring Rhone valley – for which you should allocate an entire day’s visit.

Ideal for summer walking, reading, writing, mountain climbing or just plain relaxing in the sun - the chalet has direct car access in summer via a sealed road from Wiler which is located at the valley base.

Lötschental Tourismus - Accreditation: Our chalet is listed with the Swiss local government tourist authority – Lötschental Tourismus [English, German, French, Italian spoken]- who are also commercial booking agents for the chalet – and whose office is situated in Wiler in the valley just below Lauchernalp village within a 5 minute gondola ride from the chalet.

Lötschental Tourismus make a detailed physical inspection of the chalet and its furniture and fittings before entering into a marketing contract with the chalet owner – and can confirm the identity and bank account details of the chalet owner.

Local Villages: The nearby villages of Ferden, Kippel, Wiler and Blatten with charming narrow streets and ancient medieval twisted wooden houses surround the cable car that links the 2000 meter high Lauchernalp village with the villages in the valley below.

The Lötschental valley is among the most beautiful in the Valais region and is located off the Rhone valley in the Berneser Alps in the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE Jungfrau – Aletsch – Bietschhorn region. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT RENT THE CHALET IN THE MONTHS OF MAY OR NOVEMBER EACH YEAR. THANK YOU.

What makes this chalet unique

Privacy, great skiing / hiking - excellent modern infrastructure in the village - good food for lunch [rare in most ski resorts]. Amazing World Heritage views - so much more - very welcoming local people. Organized like a large resort without crowds and fancy shops etc.

Well-appointed and confortable chalet with fantastis view

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was just as we expected : confortable, clean, well-maintained, all the amenities necessary, beautiful terrace and the amazing view of the surrounding moutains.

We came to hike and we were delighted : many trails passing by Lauchernalp and others a short car drive away.

Internet works very well.

We stayed 10 days in June ( 15-25), which is just great, very quiet and peaceful. One thing you need to know if you go during that period, is that

just about evrything is closed ( in Lauchernalp). One restaurant is open in the evening ( Berghaus).; and the one at the cable-car station is open during the day only. The small grocery store is closed ( opens in July). If you want to buy any food or even bread, you have to go down to Wiler ( small supermarket ), and if you want a larger supermarket, you have to go to Steg. Just keep that in mind . Don't come empty handed, organize yourself during that period.

We did ( the car was a bit full) and it was just fine.

Don' t forget no TV in the main living room. There are 2 TVs elsewhere if you need them.

Don't be surprised : the 2 double beds are 1,40m wide . Just great for us !!

We would definitely recommend Chalet Gletscher to our friends, and although we like to experience different properties, we just might come back as well.

Thank you very much Alex !

Great Chalet you don't want to leave.....

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is very comfortable and nice, it is equipped with everything you will need for your time in the Loetschental. Upon arrival the Chalet was very clean and it was already heated. Therefore we had the impression of coming into our own home. In our opinion it has one of the best places on the Lauchernalp. The couches, kitchen and dinner table are all on the same floor which is very nice (without TV in that floor- true but really not necessary in such a place. There are two TVs in the other floors...) Everything is in perfect shape, and very clean.

We are so glad that we've found the Chalet!!

We liked it so much that we booked it again for our next winter vacations. Ski in and walk out a small warming up....

Shame about the chalet

  • 3 of 5

First impressions of the chalet were good but on closer inspection we were somewhat disappointed. There are many things that need repair and for a high end price we were expecting things to be perfect. It was generally clean but not up to our standards.

We were surprised that there was little room to store and dry your ski gear, the store room quoted in the advert was cold and full of stuff and so the best option was to try to put things round the fire.

The strangest thing was the lack of a TV in the main living space? It would have been perfect with the views to snuggle up in front of the fire and watch TV in the evening but unfortunately the TV's were in the kids’ bedroom and the study (landing) with no room of us both to sit.

Lauchernalp was a great little ski resort but I would not recommend it for beginners. If you like freeriding then this is a great resort with lots of possibilities to find fresh snow. The luggage transport was expensive at 100SFr return and a week’s car parking cost me 98SFr both more than quoted in the advert.

To sum up we will be returning to Lauchernalp as it is a little gem but not to chalet die Gletscher. My recommendation is to look for a chalet above the top of the main lift so you can ski in and out every day as the 5 min walk with your skis up the hill in the morning is not a nice way to start your skiing day.

Owner's Response: [1] "things that need repair" - were normal wear and tear items like a loose screw needing tightening - & fixed once the chalet was vacated [2] "it was generally clean" The chalet cleaning is done by local prof Swiss contractors once the guests depart [3] "high end price"- Price was CHF1795- week in Feb 2014 [4] Are 6 ski racks in the "ski room" - all open to be used for wet skis which are dry by the next morning. [5] "The strangest thing was the lack of a TV in the main living space?" This is an issue on which tastes may vary from family to family - We place the TV in the upstairs TOP FLOOR den which has a large day bed sofa because vacations give the family a rare chance to socialize together when we enjoy dining drinking and conversing before the fire after a hard days skiing - There are 2 TVS - so we never miss out on any news report documentary or movie we want to see on our 60 Chanel SATELLITE TV service in German French & English [SKY CNN BBC] Also the chalet has a full, fast down loading, Internet service and with a laptop you can also watch MOVIES. [6] "luggage transport was expensive at 100SFr return & a week’s car parking cost 98SFr" - All Swiss & French ski resorts are expensive tho Laupernalp which has many Swiss & German skiers is one of the least costly in Switzerland. [7] "chalet location" - Almost all the new luxury 3 story chalets in our resort are positioned in the same row as our chalet which is regarded as the premier location of this resort in terms of its spectacular mountain views, weather comfort, and village access. Higher up most of the ski lodges are smaller converted farm buildings with small windows - also higher up you are exposed to much higher winds - on sunny, winter days we like to sit outside on our chalet terraces or balconies in the sun for lunch or a drink. The am walk to the ski lift takes us 3 minutes using Village paths for short cuts [ 4 minutes on the snow groomed road ] and we are warmed up and ready to go once we arrive at the first lift. At the end of the day we usually have a drink at one of the bars/cafes around the first ski lift and then ski home directly to the back door of the chalet - so the chalet is not "ski out" in the morning when you have more energy - but is "ski in" after the day's skiing when you are tired. Obviously we cant please everyone - but after 6 years .- remains the most heavily booked in Laupernalp and many guests come back year after year.

A Gem in the Alps

  • 5 of 5

We are very grateful to the owners Alex and Andrew, renting out their comfortable chalet at this terrific place.

They let us enjoy a wonderful week in Lauchernalp, and the happy 70 birthday of my husband Peter.

Piles of powdery snow, skiing on the various slopes, sleding down to wiler or walking

on of the different hiking tours was fun.

The contemporary chalet style was very relaxing, everything clean, nothing was missing so we felt home from first sight. The view from the chalet is overhelming.

We have experienced many swiss alpine resort, “ chalet die gletscher “ and the Lötschental is now our favorit.

We just hope every visitor takes care of this gem, as it would be his own!

We are looking forward to come back again.

Amazing stay, great and wonderful Chalet

  • 5 of 5

Spend a week in the beginning of June - my dad's 70th birthday. The chalet it very nice, luxuries - but still a mountain chalet. The view and the nearby surroundings is something you don't see anywhere else.

In the beginning of June the mountain and valley was very colorful - millions of flowers.

It was a great place for walks - or just setting inside (or outside) looking at the surroundings - or feeling the fresh air.

Wonderful holiday in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

first of all, I'd like to thank the owners for their kindness and their immediate response to our enquiries . The chalet is exactly like what mentioned in the advertisement: clean and well equipped , also the manual that owners provided us was very helpfull. I love lauchernalp very peaceful village but it was difficult to reach because its not shown in the navigation system. We enjoyed our stay , especialy walking , beatifull sightseeing and very nice weather. Felt like I lived the full swiss experience, but I'll try to go back to enjoy the snow. I highly recommend this chalet .

Owner's Response: Wow, thank you for a wonderful review of our home away from home. You have hit the nail on the head. Lauchernalp is difficult to find but the Loetschental has been clearly marked since Roman times. New technology hasent quite caught up yet. We make every effort to ensure that guests are well looked after and greatly welcome your kind comments and advice. Kind Regards, Andrew and Alex p.s. Please come back

SKIING: 33 Kilometres of trails from 3111metres to 2000 metres [Lauchernalp] and down to Wiler at 1375 metres.

At Lauchernalp, due to the altitude, the snow cover is excellent from beginning to end of the season. Skiing is from the summit [3111metres] to Lauchernalp village [2000 metres], and at points inbetween, with over 33 kilometres of trails, suitable for all classes of skiers – particularly intermediate and experienced skiers. There is also a huge area of off-piste terrain available [but get local advice first]. The ski lift infrastructure is excellent – and waiting times for lifts are minimal on most days and times. A weather proof gondola completes the rise to the summit over a small glacier and this run has particularly good skiing. During mid-winter it's possible ski from the summit all the way to the village of Wiler at the bottom of the valley [the cable car base]. See for an interactive map of the ski area and webcams year round.

Other Activities: Lots of reading and relaxing

Golf: There is mini golf in Wiler during summer
