One of a Kind Unique Island Adventure, Spider Lake
The island provides some of the best sandy beach on Spider Lake and it will become your sole vacation site as no one else lives on the island. The only cabin is both rustic and modern with a large refrigerator and flat top electric stove. WI-FI wireless internet is on site. A large flat screen digital TV with local channels and DVD player is included. The cabin is completely furnished and will sleep 8, although privacy is limited due its open floor plan. A large front porch and deck, plus a lakeside deck are great for gatherings. The island features several picnic tables for dining. A canoe, kayak, row boat and paddle boat are included for your use. You are allowed use of a pontoon boat if a responsibility waiver is signed. Lots of water toys for the kids. Shower facilities are provided outside the main cabin and are clean and convenient. Parking is available for two cars at the owners home about 1/3 of a mile away. This is an island paradise from which you will not want to leave. It is wonderful for children and adults alike as everyone can find room to relax and explore. Horseshoe courts and several other games are on the island. The island also has many areas for tent camping or overflow sleeping and many little nooks for space to yourself. A brief description, such as this, can not adequately explain the island amenities. It will truly be a matchless experience. This, one of a kind, island is available because it helps the retired owners pay the island expenses. The East end of the island has a gate that must be opened which affords additional privacy from an occasional boater parking on the nearby sandbar. The island will be available for no more than 6 weeks during the months of June-August. We interlace our island time between guests so an exact calendar is hard to generate. A first come, first serve basis is used to reserve your vacation dates.
Rent is $2750.00 per week and is discounted for multiple weeks and returning guests. Check-in is at 3 PM and check out is 10 AM on Saturdays, unless otherwise arranged. A $500.00 reservation/booking fee must be paid to reserve your dates. Payment in full is required on arrival. Shorter stays may be allowed at the last moment, but generally the island is rented on a weekly basis.
As soon as the $500.00 booking fee is paid, your reservation will lock-in. The booking fee will become your refundable damage deposit. We would anticipate a full return upon your departure. We have never collected damages.
Spider Lake is an all sports lake 10 miles SE of Traverse City, conveniently located in the heart of vacation land. We hope you can make Treasure Island your summer getaway. The island is safe for children and pets, as there are no cars.
We understand how important it is to make your vacation perfect, so we will do everything in our power to insure your vacation is everything you would expect. Your vacation investment will not be taken lightly.

Sue and I are now retired and spend much our time on the island during the summer weeks. We reserve time for ourselves and family, therefore it is difficult to keep an accurate calendar. If you are planning a last minute vacation, possibly we can accommodate your time frame by moving family time around. Those that have reserved dates know what they are and we have them locked in on our on-line booking calendar.
Jack or Sue Leishman purchased this cabin in 1999
The Traverse City area is a haven for tourists and offers many venues for fun. The island is our preferred residence and we believe you will love as much as we do. We have lived on Spider lake since 1974 and treasure the lake as much as our private island retreat. The morning solitude is is a favorite time for us. The island provides maximum privacy from neighbors. The island is directly across the lake from our house and this is your lakeside departure and parking location.
You will experience the full gamut of life on an island. Everywhere you look is water. The beach areas are safe for children, but youngsters will still require close supervision. Two anchored swim rafts are provided. It is about a 5 minute ride by boat to your car. The island has been a longtime favorite summer destination for many. We do not to rent it for more than 4 weeks per year. Pets are free to swim and roam. It is a wonderland for pets and children and comes without worry of cars or roads. The inclusion of a personal pontoon boat and the ability to bring your pets makes Treasure Island quite affordable. Read our feedback and rent with confidence. Water Trampolines, Jet Skis and Ski Boats are available on the lake as rentals by other parties.
What an amazing place to stay! First of all, you couldn't ask for a more gracious and helpful host than Jack and Sue. They were always available to answer any questions we had. The island is beyond description. It truly surpassed my expectations in every way. Thank you so much Jack and Sue!
This island was a great family vacation! The property was in great shape, very clean, and comfortable. The description of modern and rustic was spot on. Jack and Sue were friendly and very helpful. Though there are plenty of restaurants nearby in Traverse City, we took full advantage of the kitchen and outdoor grills to maximize our island experience. Our 6 year old had the time of his life fishing from the docks and from the boat. We happened to be there during pretty hot weather, but had plenty of shade, lots of lake breezes, and the bedroom air conditioners made sleeping easy. The sunsets and calm cool mornings were fantastic. I would definitely recommend this vacation property.
This cabin is rustic awesome! The cabin is clean and well appointed with all the amenities of home but on your own private island. The kids were never bored on the island; they explored the island with the dogs, fished off the many docks, and swam like little fish in the clear water of Spider Lake. The adults had plenty of relaxing things to enjoy as well. The pontoon boat that comes with the island was a great addition for a sunset trip around the lake.
Jack and Sue were gracious hosts, very responsive to your questions during the stay. The island is in a great location; short boat and car ride puts you in Traverse City. But really other than stocking up on groceries there is no reason to leave the island.
My partner Tim and I had a wonderful week with our two dogs and friends on Treasure Island in the middle of Spider Lake. Tim had grown up vacationing at a now defunct resort on the end of the lake called L'DaRu and was thrilled to find various artefacts and references from his childhood as part of the decor of the cabin. Jack and Sue are among the leaders of the whole happy Spider Lake community and when the island isn't being rented, seem to welcome visitors by boat to enjoy the island's many amenities. But it felt like ours completely during our stay there. No one quite knows how the chimpmunky animals came to inhabit the island, but they're there and provided our pups with endless chasing fun.
Rent with confidence if you love water, boats, privacy, and rustic comfort.
I cannot say enough about this place. First of all the owners are more than accommodating and just wonderful people all around. We used their pontoon boat which was a wonderful add on. The cabin is clean, nice size and very well equipped with everything you need including cable tv, stereo and a computer with internet. The outdoor space is spectacular. You are literally on your own island with more privacy than you could ask for. Lots of space to sit, relax, enjoy. There are games to play and the little beach spots all around with several piers to fish off and just hang out. This space is good for small or large groups and our dogs were in heaven exploring the island. Thank you Jack an Sue, we cannot wait to come back!
Treasure Island really is one of a kind. Our party of 4 adults and 2 pups enjoyed a fabulous late-summer visit that turned out to be far beyond our expectations. First, Jack & Sue are gracious hosts, who took the time to give us a tour of their spectacular island and then let us be. Their generosity -- evident in numerous postings to their neighbors and friends to whom they've opened their home -- permeates the grounds. They're the kind of neighbors all of us hope to be.
Second, the island itself is spectacular, with quirky, interesting decor everywhere. Our seasoned city dogs frolicked like giddy puppies all over the grounds, exploring every corner and proving that, yes, they *are* water dogs. What a joy it was to watch them play with abandon and without tethers or collars or reprimands. They even behaved themselves on the pontoon, much to my surprise. (And Spider Lake was stunning, clean, swimmable, and full of interesting inlets that beckoned us on our pontoon outings.) The island includes numerous nooks and crannies, spaces for quiet reading, eating with friends, sunning and swimming, playing cards, or just listening to the pines, the loons, and the woodpeckers. There are chairs, swings, and picnic tables everywhere. At night, the grounds are well lit by the campfire and the overhead, ambient lights that illuminate the two horseshoe pits. It would be a fabulous place to gather with children, itching to explore and play games while the adults tend the fire, the s'mores, and the burgers (on one of 3 propane grills).
Finally, pictures cannot do justice to the home. There are curtains rather than doors to separate the 3 bedrooms, yet the bedrooms feel defined and roomy. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable, and I'll bet that the 2 bunk beds are a hit with kids. The living / dining room is spacious, but we spent little time inside. The bath house, deluxe "outhouse," and (inside the home) bathroom were all exceptionally clean and well equipped. And the kitchen was perhaps the biggest surprise, with room for multiple cooks and everything you'd need.
I can't recommend Treasure Island enthusiastically enough. We can't wait to return next summer.
