Terrific apartment, great location

  • 5 of 5

This was a 3 bedroom apartment (one of the BRs has a interior balcony with another bed). We stayed there for a week (July 31 - August 7). It was indeed spacious for our 4 person group. The beds were very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked great (a must since Rome was so hot while we were there). We cooked in one night, and the kitchen worked well. It's a typical small Rome kitchen, but there was plenty of room. Lots of dishes and pots and silverware. It could use some more sharp knives and a vegetable peeler. The coffee maker and toaster worked great. The television had many channels, too. In the living room were a nice table that seats 6 and two large couches.

The apartment was super-clean, and the bathrooms up to date. The master BR has its own bathroom (with a very small shower, typical of Italy.) The hall bathroom had a large shower. There were plenty of nice towels.

There is a washing machine on the narrow balcony, and plenty of clotheslines and clothes pins for hanging laundry to dry (plus a large drying rack for use either outside or in). The ironing board and iron worked very well.

The building is well-maintained, with an elevator to the 6th floor, where this apartment is located. There is a day watchman.

Paolo and his assistant met us right on time, and they gave us a map of Rome along with a lot of great suggestions for where to go and eat. We followed Paolo's advice and were happy every time. I recommend taking him up on the offer of a taxi from the airport. The driver was on time and very nice and even gave us some "tourist" information. Paolo also arranged a taxi to take us to the train station when we left to go to Venice. Again, the driver was on time, very nice, and informative.

The location is terrific, just a few blocks from the Colosseum. It was about a 10 minute walk to either the A or B line of the Metro. The neighborhood is full of good restaurants, and there is a small but comprehensive supermarket about 8 minutes walk away. We felt like the Colosseum was our neighbor.

All in all, a terrific apartment a really good base of operations, and a great place to spend time in while in Rome. I highly recommend it.

Excellent location, excellent host!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was larger & nicer than expected, especially for the price! There were only 3 of us but it can easily fit more as we didn't even use 1/2 the beds! It also had a lot of "extras" in the place (unfortunately we weren't there long enough to enjoy it all!). Only semi-bad thing I can say is that the beds are pretty hard but they worked after long hot days of walking everywhere!

The location was excellent! Whether it was walking to the Colosseum, getting dinner or just a quick snack or hopping on the local train(?), everything was so close!

Paolo was so quick to respond while booking which was VERY important to us. He was extremely helpful in telling us what to see in our short time we were there & he arranged a ride back to the airport-highly recommended as it was actually cheaper & way faster than the train we took on the way there (40 minutes vs a little over 2 hours by train) not to mention the driver was great!

We will definitely be back to Rome & would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Thanks Paolo!

Excellent apartment in Rome

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our stay at this apartment. There was plenty of room for 6 and the apartment had all the amenities including great air conditioning described in the listing. The elevator in the building is small, but works fine to get you up to the 6th floor.

The owner was particularly helpful at check-in, fully explaining how everything in the apartment works, providing great restaurant recommendations for the neighborhood, and even reserving us a taxi for our departure.

The location is very convenient to reach ancient Rome including the Colosseum and Forum. Other parts of Rome are easily accessible by Metro; there are two stops within 10 minutes walk. All in all, I would highly recommend this apartment.

Wonderful apartment!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 7 enjoyed a wonderful stay in this beautiful apartment! We fit comfortably, the location was great (few mins walk from Colosseum) and the place was very nice, clean and full of classic Italian character! Paolo was a great host, very helpful, he got in touch with us before we arrived, helped to arrange our transport and made great recommendations for restaurants and things to see in Rome. All around, a great place to stay! I would definitely visit again.

A great location, but cramped for 6

  • 3 of 5

Having come from a great villa in Tuscany, and studying the reviews for this apartment before booking it we were apparently expecting too much. I suspect that because Paulo is so helpful and charming guests were less likely to be critical with past reviews. Unfortunately that's not helpful to future guests. On our visit we didn't get off to a great start when the limo that Paulo arranged to meet us at the airport took 2 hours to find us. I know this wasn't their first rodeo, but it sure seemed like it at the time. Paulo's briefing was thorough, but when he told us we needed to be quiet during the day and in the evening because the walls are thin and we weren't to disturb the neighbor, it didn't sit well. I think the expectation of quiet should be on the listing description. The biggest limitation though is the double duty dining and living room. There is not much room to get in and out of the room easily as the table and chairs take up a lot of space. The couches are saggy and run down and they share a space with dining room chairs that are literally coming unglued. I have no idea how you would use the couches as beds as there is no room to open one of them let alone both without moving the dining room table out of the room (to where I don't know). Further, this room stores crockery, cooking pans and glasses for the tiny kitchen. We did not attempt to cook a dinner, but I expect that would be quite a Chinese fire drill. So the description of the apartment as "large" is hardly accurate. While the bedrooms are good sized the common areas are quite cramped. Among the minor niggles was a coffee maker literally dripped for an hour and a half making 7 cups of coffee before we gave up and unplugged it. Also the two bedrooms facing east are air conditioned, while the third bedroom and living/dining room face west (the rooms needing AC the most) get really hot in the afternoon/evening.

Don't be too fooled by the low advertised price as our total cost for 4 nights (Friday thru Monday) came to much more than the per night price listed on the home page (I had to revise my review when I stated specifically how much more--I guess they don't want you to know that) -- the bottom line is that the place is not all that cheap, either.

We agree that on the plus side Paulo is helpful, the beds were comfortable, our ride to the airport went without a hitch and the location is first rate.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. Guests' opinions are very important and I think that there is so much to learn from reviews with regard to improving the quality of the services. I think that a large villa in the countryside is a very different experience to staying in an apartment located in the most ancient part of an historic city. The expectations can not be the same. Each accommodation needs to be considered in the context of the environment of the location. I think that all the excellent reviews about the apartment are valid and based on guests' honest appraisal. They really enjoyed the flat and wrote that it is spacious, clean, modern, comfortable and in an excellent position to explore ancient Rome. Thank you for considering me very helpful and charming, but I don't think that this was the sole reason for receiving positive reviews in the past. I am sorry about the problems with the pick-up but the confusion is most likely the result of the meeting point not being directly at the airport as it usually the case, but at a specific rental car agency. Without a precise meeting point it is extremely difficult to locate the point of collection. I and the driver called you many times on the phone but the only answer was “second floor of the tower”. But, there are many towers around the airport. I didn’t ask you to be quiet both during the day and at night, but only from 10pm to 7am. Perhaps this was a misunderstanding. In the historical center of Rome apartments are averagely 60 sq.m., mine is 130. Past guests reported that the dining/living was large enough to have a rest after a long day and to comfortably eat a meal. Also, it is quite easy to use the sofa beds as you don’t need to pull them out. Therefore to use them it isn't necessary to move the table and chairs. The kitchen is small but NEW and adequate to prepare meals. At the time you booked the apartment it was stated in the description that: “The Air Conditioning is only in the 2 bedrooms”. I am sorry that the week-end you stayed at my apartment it was unusually hot in Rome. There is now A/C also in the 3rd bedroom and in the living room. The price that VRBO shows is the average price. As you may know there is a different rate for each season. If you make an inquiry for a specific period the right price is given. Lastly, I appreciate your positive comments regarding my helpfulness, the comfort of the bedrooms and the efficient airport transfer on departure day.
