About Jerry Rudick

I am a native of San Diego, living and attending schools in La Jolla since the age of 10. After leaving La Jolla to attend college at UCLA and work in Los Angeles and San Francisco, I returned home and fell in love with the Barber Tract and it's beautiful beaches. This is the most wonderful place to find peace and call home.

Jerry Rudick purchased this house in 2015

Why Jerry Rudick chose San Diego County

I have always wanted to live at the end of this cul de sac on Vista De La Playa. The setting is so uniquely quiet and travelled by very few vehicles compared to the rest of the beach area. And, the smell of the salt air along with the sounds of the surf at home is an incredible treasure. As far as La Jolla beaches go, the local beach in front of this house is especially beautiful and uncrowded compared with other La Jolla beaches. This is the finest location in all of the Barber Tract beach area.

This is our 3rd or 4th stay at the house and it is lovely Excellent location and no need for a car ride to beach Walk down the 'secret ' path and you are on the beach The house is kept beautifully lots of towels and beach toys and areas to be together or apart The courtyard in front is a great play area for little ones because of the wooden entry gate Jerry, the owner is excellent and very responsive to all our needs and only a phone call away. i highly recommend this house in La Jolla - walk to beach walk to town perfect for families

Location AND a beautiful house!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 vacation.... Could not have been better. This wonderful, very well equipped home is located in an amazing neighborhood.. Cul de sac/neighborhood is sprawling with multiple, multiple-million dollar homes resting against the beach. Sand is literally just over a hundred steps from the house so no need to pack several bags & coolers, because you can simply walk back to the house. Having my early morning coffee every day watching the waves and beach goers with their dogs enjoy this incredible stretch of beach that offers hours & hours of relaxation, walking cliffs & beach, exploring tide pools, swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, volleyball etc. was "beach therapy" to the max! Bonus: You can even hear the waves crashing from the INSIDE this home. High end appliances, furniture, entertainment & linens add to the appeal of this home. Our stay was worth every penny! Absolutely will consider staying here again. Owner was available and helpful throughout entire procedure, even made sure my personal pillow that i left behind was sent to me promptly.

Thank you, Jerry!

Spacious home, pet friendly, near beach

  • 4 of 5

This home is quite comfortable with a large dining room (table for 6), backyard dining table and chaises, large bedrooms and a comfy but a little dark living room (great for watching movies, a wee bit dark for reading). It's nicer inside than the pics might indicate as long as you don't mind the quirks of an older home (the occasional sticky cabinet door, low bath sink vanities) but the interior is spacious. We were renting with another couple and there was enough room to feel like we had privacy. There's a little extra room off one of the bedrooms that they used as a den or study. Cleaning service did an amazing job cleaning up after the previous, sloppy renters.

No DVD but we figured out how to hook ours up. (Not easy because the TV is attached to the wall.) Traffic was bad when we arrived on Sat afternoon so we decided to ditch the car and we walked virtually everywhere. The area has a lot of good but inexpensive restaurants, coffee shops. Grocery is about a mile away. We also walked to the Farmers Market which is on Sunday. We bought a lot of our week's food there, including some prepared food like artichoke quiche and mushroom empanadas. Fresh peaches (not crispy like store bought)! Yum.

Due to erosion, the beach access at the end of the street currently has stairs and the last step is a doozy, about a 4 ft drop to the beach. If that's too much to navigate, there's a lovely beach at Neptune and Nautilus, only 0.4 miles away, a lovely walk. If you want to walk farther, head north toward Coast Blvd.

The owner was great to work with, gracious about all our questions.

If you have dogs, the house works quite well for them. Wood floors (not a good choice if you have an elderly dog with bad hips perhaps). Ample floor space and throw rugs offer lots of places to put dog beds. There is a closed patio out front where we often sat and read, moving from sun to shade as needed. The yard out back is narrow (fine for a quick pee) but the back fence is only one of those thin metal stick-in-the-ground landscaping barriers. It was enough to discourage our dogs from heading down the arroyo/stormwater swale behind the house while we watched them, but one squirrel could have changed the situation. You also should know that dogs are only allowed on the beach until 9am and after 5 or 6pm (winter/summer hours). Check the rules. We were told they do hand out tickets.

Wish we could stay forever!

First off, the property owner Jerry is quite a pleasure to interact with. He is very responsive to any questions you might have. Second, the house is gorgeous and most of all clean and comfortable. It comes stocked with anything you could need, down to the playpen to a high chair. The location is literally steps to the beach and within walking distance to the main stretch. We will most definitely be coming back. Thanks Jerry!
