One Of A Kind Cottage On A Very Unique Body Of Aqua Blue Water W/ Sandy Bottom
Enjoy both the sunrise and sunsets at water's edge from this charming historical property. Vintage 1920s decor feels like a step back in time, without sacrificing amenities. The view is spectacular, looking across the length of Torch Lake, one of the world's most beautiful lakes. Walk the vast sandbar as far as your legs can take you, or just sit on the home's sandy beach and take in the scenery. The shallow water is safe for young children, ideal for swimming and wading, and yet allows enough depth for you to motor your boat up to the home's dock. Featuring 3 large gathering areas with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, the house comfortably sleeps 16. It includes a separate suite with bedroom, kitchenette, and bathroom to accommodate certain members of your party seeking privacy. There is a 2-person jacuzzi tube in the master bath.
The property affords nice privacy, yet easy access by water to the festivities at the famous sandbar, 1 mile away. It's an easy 15 minute drive to Turtle Creek Casino, or Shorts Brewery in Bellaire, and 25 minutes to Traverse City. Also enjoy the numerous wineries in the Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties. Or, simply boat the chain o lakes, which includes Torch Lake, Skegamog Lake, Elk Lake, Clam Lake , and Lake Bellaire.
This cottage is privately owned residential property, and thus rents exclusively to single families on a 1-week minimum basis. We are selective in our rental process and ask that our guests respect our rental agreement. When not rented, the home is exclusively used by the owner's family.

About Brad H. Watkins
I am a local resident for the past 25 years, and recently retired business owner. My wife and I raised two girls in nearby Traverse City. I bought the home 21 years ago to use as a cottage where we could go on weekends and vacations. We had it professionally restored after 5 years of use and added on to the structure, increasing it's footprint and usability. We kept the character of the original cottage and reused many of the fixtures, doors, and hardware. We are detailed oriented people and it shows though out the house. We have many memories in this special cottage on our truly unique lake, and hope now after using it for so long with friends and family that we can share it with clients who can enjoy the same qualities and charm as we have experienced. Please feel free to contact me at 231-632-1221.

Why Brad H. Watkins chose Rapid City
The water quality and sand bar frontage is second to none. It is literally possible to see the bottom of the lake for more than a 30 foot depth. Many people walk the water because of the clarity and the vast area of shallows it covers on the south end. It is generally warm water because of the 4 to 5 foot depth on this end of the lake, making it a pleasurable experience to swim or just play, especially for kids. Also, this home is immaculate, and is like new from the bathrooms to the flooring. The 4th of July week is a special time on the south end of Torch Lake, precisely where the cottage is located. The celebration is capped by a professional fireworks show conducted on a barge brought out into the water and positioned on the sandbar. Sit, relax, and comfortably watch the show from your dock, as it is only several hundred yards out from the shoreline!
What makes this House unique
The property has a sunrise and sunset vantage point in addition to all other attractive benefits listed. The home is built closer to the shoreline than is allowed these days for new construction, as it was grandfathered in. This adds to the calming sound of the waves heard even inside the house with the windows open. All the usual conveniences are in close proximity, within minutes of a drive away.

A Well Taken Care of Lovely Home
This rental property, which has a very interesting history, accommodated 13 of us very well. It is homey and well taken care of; its location on Torch Lake is at a sand bar which allows walking out into the lake for some distance. The current owner has done a fine job in renovating the house and seems genuinely concerned that his renters have what they need. Shopping boat rental and sights are all within reasonable distance. Our family, ranging from ages 9-79, greatly enjoyed our week here.
Wonderful vacation at a wonderful house!
My family had our summer vacation here. The house is great! Tons of room, clean, and the house has lots of charm. You can't beat the spot. Right on the shallow part of Torch Lake with beautiful white sand. You feel like you could be in the Caribbean! We had a wonderful vacation at a wonderful house and location!
Exactly as described. Wonderful stay!
Thank you Brad for sharing your beautiful home with us. Your home was exactly as described! We had a group of 12, including 8 adults and 4 kids and everyone had a space to call their own. The house had all the amenities needed including dishes, pots, pans and appliances. It was a hot week and the window air conditioners worked to cool the bedrooms and living areas perfectly. (The only room that got a little hot was the bunk room where the kids slept.) The water was perfectly clear and the sandy entry was great for the little kids and adults alike. We used the paddle boat that came with the house to paddle over to the sand bar a few days. The water stays shallow for a long time into the water so it's a perfect place to hang out and enjoy all day. The backyard was also great. We played games with the family and enjoyed the fire pit. We rented a boat one day as well and used the mooring anchor to secure the boat while we were at the house. There are tons of water and sand toys at the house to enjoy as well. The only complaint from the adults after our wonderful week was the size of the double beds. They were a little small but exactly as advertised and worked nonetheless for our group. Thanks again for a great week and providing lasting memories for our family!
This was my family's first year renting this particular cottage, and what a great decision! Especially for the 4th of July week. We usually stay a few miles down from here, still on Torch Lake, but we always had to take the boat and anchor in order to enjoy the sandbar, or even the water for that matter. The other place has a steep slope to the water and rocky frontage, but not this cottage. It has a sandy bottom right at the shore.
Some of our group made enjoyable walks from the dock, in what is predominately waste high water and completely sandy bottom, all the way out to where there's a deep drop off, maybe a half mile away. Of course, my cousins and I walked the water too, but over to the sandbar everyday to hang out, while the little kids played on the beach and in the shallow water in front. Speaking of that, the place is situated for great viewing of the fireworks celebration they always have on the holiday. We watched it from the dock, right straight out from us, where they shoot them off on a barge. The whole group thought it was great!
This place has it all and met all of our needs for an awesome vacation. The home is beautiful, has multiple gathering rooms for our big group, and I'd say is the perfect place to stay.
I really enjoyed my stay at this house on Torch Lake! The house has lots of room, with a separate apartment that includes its own bathroom and kitchen over the garage. Perfect for teenagers or Grandma and Grandpa. This part of the lake allows you to walk far out into the water on the sandbar. The property is also close to Alden, which has lots of shops and places to eat. I would recommend this rental to anyone. Torch Lake is a wonderful place to take a vacation!
The Dockside is a popular restaurant on Torch at the mouth of the Clam River that affords the public to come by boat to dock. They have wonderful outdoor seating! A truly unique dining experience. Brownwood is located on North East Torch Lake Drive and is a small village-type attraction with a country store, treats and gifts. Shorts Brewery, located in nearby Bellaire, is a popular tavern/restaurant specializing in craft beer, specialty sandwiches, and pizza. Try the beer sampler!
