Great Property for Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time staying at "While We're At It". The cottage was clean and comfortable. The Mt. Gretna area was nice. The Jigger Shop and beach were two of the highlights for us. The location of the cottage was also great for quick day trips to Amish country and Hersheypark. Highly recommend this cottage!

Great! Clean and Comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed living the porch life!

Easy access to The Hideaway and various hiking trails.

There is not a lot of pantry storage or fridge space, so keep that in mind when you pack your goodies!

Owner's Response: Yes Mt. Gretna is full of things to do even in the off season. I'm glad you enjoyed the porch and had a good time hiking the trails around Mt. Gretna. There is quite a lot to do even in the off season. As far as storage is concerned we're a little surprised that you commented that storage space was limited as yours was just a 3 night stay. Maybe you missed the area under the kitchen bake center which the top is is now used as the coffee bar or the empty hutch in the dining room which can be used for storage. Also in the kitchen the double door "Harry Potter" under the stairs pantry is also a good place to store dry goods. In total renovations of old 1800's homes it's always a challenge to maximize the space you are given. Here in Mt. Gretna your not allowed to build additions outside of your home footprint so it makes for even more challenging designs. While renovating we did try a full size fridge but it overwhelmed the kitchen area and no walk through or open floor plan would've been possible. Folks are surprised at the efficient use of space and that we even got a dishwasher in the cottage. This cottage has been on the Mt. Gretna tour of homes twice because of its example of how to renovate a cottage but still keep the Mt. Gretna charm. In any antique restoration everything is a compromise. We always strive for our guests to give us 5 star reviews and we're disappointed we did not receive that because of design restructions.

A tranquil place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 5 women chose to stay in the Mt. Gretna campground initially due to the history of the cottages. There was not one moment of the experience we would change. The 4 bedroom, 2 bath home was perfect for our group. Even had a chance to meet the owners who have done an exquisite job along with their carpenter friend in renovating this historic cottage. Artsy community with owners who take pride in maintaining the nostalgia of the area.

Beautiful cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I brought a few ladies from church here for a ladies weekend, and everyone was impressed with the cottage and asked me how I found it. I think we will have to plan another ladies weekend here.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review and for leaving "While We're At It" in such fine shape. Our cottages are pretty popular with ladies (including my wife's) groups. Some of the antique knick-knacks you see in the cottage are from ladies who have donated them to us because they were just sitting in their closets. This includes the antique chamber pot on the bedroom shelf. While we tried to keep the "Gretna vintage feel" of the cottage, we did install the new bathrooms so you wouldn't have to use that item like they did here in the 18 and 1900's. I'm glad you had a nice time and we look forward to seeing you again. Bob & Tammy

Owner's Response: Thank you for that nice review. Yes it is very relaxing here. We love sitting on the porch while reading a book or listening to the music coming from the Mt. Gretna Campmeeting Tabernacle. The only problem is you meet so many nice people walking by sometimes it's hard to get through a chapter. Again thanks for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you again. Bob & Tammy

Perfect for our reunion

  • 5 of 5

"While We're at It" was the perfect house for our reunion. Six of us spent a week there and loved every minute. The house is charming and beautifully furnished and equipped, and Bob and Tammy couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. Lots to do in Mt. Gretna and the surrounding countryside. Highly recommend this place!
