|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Welcome to our little piece of paradise! We're located in the tranquil neighbourhood of Tuwanek, which is a ten minute drive alongside Sechelt Inlet from the town of Sechelt. A truly peaceful community where one can virtually hear the quiet of the surrounding area, the place is situated in a way where the only views are of forest, mountain, and ocean.
There are two beaches, one on either side of us, both just a five minute walk to reach them. Outside the back door are trails and roads heading up into Mt.Richardson and Tetrahedron Parks. The Sechelt Inlet is very popular area for scuba-diving and kayaking, the Tetrahedron area has hiking, and ski-trails throughout. There are a number of quality mountain-biking trails throughout the area as well.
Quality workmanship throughout this custom built home (completed in 2010) includes premier fir wood finish on all window and door trim and baseboards, the deck is covered and framed with posts and railings of fir, the exterior is wrapped with old growth cedar which has a furniture-like finish, and pine ceilings throughout the house. This all gives the place a truly woodsy yet luxurious feeling.
The sunsets are especially enjoyable - how they make the ocean glow, and how the sunbeams shoot through the trees, then lighting up the fine woodwork of this home.
-radiant floor heat throughout and a woodstove for the cooler nights
-full custom kitchen, large sunny space
-large, covered patio, well suited for outdoor dining, includes a propane barbeque
-bathroom has a jacuzzi tub with two shower-heads, and beautiful stone tile surrounding
-one big bedroom and loft bedroom...queen size bed in each room, another double pull-out available as well
-living room has a 40' HDTV and DVD with ipod compatibility and surround-sound speakers
-High-speed wireless internet

I bought this 1967 cabin from the original owner. In 2008 we embarked on a full rebuild which was completed in 2010
Don Saugstad purchased this cottage in 1998
This will be our retirement home one day. Couldn't think of a better place
We overpacked for sure, this place has all you need and more!! The owner was very responsive and helpful, the home is beautiful and conveniently located near trails and beaches and a short drive into town. I would highly recommend staying here, I know we'll be booking again in the future!
The cottage was very well outfitted
It was clean and offered us all the accoutrements we needed for an enjoyable stay.
The only thing we missed was a blender.
Will definitely recommend the place to friends.
We were so pleased with the accommodations and the surrounding beauty. Trails, kayaking and wildlife abound steps from the front door. The house is lovely and provides a relaxing environment when not out exploring the local offerings. The mattress in the master is a bit firm- for those of you softy seekers, consider a topper.
My husband and I and our two well-traveled canines welcomed the new year at this very comfortable and well-equipped home, and enjoyed every minute of our week-long stay. Though we have visited Porpoise Bay Provincial Park off-season with our dogs on many occasions in the past, we had never driven three minutes further north along the same road to the community of Tuwanek. Our bad! Carmel Cottage is an ideal hideaway while touring the Sunshine Coast and walking/hiking its many trails, minutes from all amenities but in a very tranquil setting. We were fortunate to have a full week of dry (but cold) weather, and especially enjoyed the radiant floor heat keeping us warm. We also attracted two hummingbirds with a fresh batch of syrup in the feeder, and spent as much time watching them as the TV. Such is the charm of Carmel Cottage...
Lastly, one of the highlights of our week was walking the many trails of Hidden Grove. The trails are well-maintained, clearly marked and absolutely ideal for humans and canines alike, so much that we made a donation - tax-deductible at that! - to support the efforts of the volunteers who care for the trails.
All-in-all, a most enjoyable stay!
Carmel Cottage was exactly what we were looking for. The space is beautiful, airy and really well equipped. The deck overlooking the water was amazing to sit on with a blanket. We will definitely be returning, and soon!
Scuba-diving is also very popular from the beach next to our cottage. Coast Gravity mountain bike park is just down the road.
