About The Owner

Becky is an engineer and Mike a former banker. We have a marine canvas business in the summer. We travel with our mini-dachshunds and understand how important having a safe place to keep them.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2006

Why The Owner chose Northern Michigan

Becky grew up on Green Lake just a couple cottages south of this home. Her family has been here for 4 generations. We can't imagine a nicer place to spend the summer.

What makes this cottage unique

Private waterfront access with dock and deck.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This is a hidden gem in a great setting. The cottage is small but has everything you need and you will be out on the lake or sitting on the deck overlooking the lake every waking hour. The boathouse is perfect if you teenagers, or visitors for a few days. It is like having a guest cottage for them. Not only do you get to use the pontoon boat (which rent for $125/hour) but there are kayaks as well. The wildlife watching is great. Bald eagles, grebes, ducks, geese. We would take a bike ride every morning to the isthmus that divides the two arms of the lake. We would stop and talk to the locals about the history of the area, the music camp, etc. Excellent Wifi and cable so you can stay as attached to the world as you want. One of the best fishing spots on the lake is straight out from the cottage. This will be our third year in a row renting, which I guess is the best recommendation of all. Mike and Becky are very laid back and helpful.

Disappointing

  • 1 of 5

I will start by saying I should have done more research and asked more questions.

This place is very small. It is 4 concrete walls and a concrete floor. No privacy in bedroom. The door doesn't shut and there is no ceiling. You can barely get around the bed.

The kitchen is very small and all the dishes were dirty and grimy. Anything we used we needed to wash first. The first morning we woke up, there were mouse droppings on the counter. During the rest of the week we found additional droppings on the counter and in the cupboards. We always made sure there was nothing sitting out and there were absolutely no crumbs anywhere.

When I made the owner aware of the situation, they wrote it off and said that happens and there is nothing they can do except put a couple traps down. In my job, I work with animals and mice don't bother me, but they do not belong in the kitchen. Very unsanitary.

We stayed away as much as possible.

Needless to say, we were very disappointed. We have rented other places in the area and have never run into this problem.

We didn't rent the cottage because of the pontoon. However, there were also problems with that.

Just What We Needed!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our Michigan getaway. The patio area on top of the boat house was our favorite spot - perfect for breakfast coffee, dinners, sunsets and staring at peaceful Green Lake.

The kitchen was very well stocked - many excellent, quality items that made cooking easy.

We had several beautiful sunsets, each unique and dramatic. While we had earlier made plans to go to Traverse City, but opted instead for a trip to Frankfort which was good for a change of pace.

Thoroughly enjoyed using the pontoon boat. It really enhanced being at the lake that we could be on it, too.

Trying to plan when we can return to Green Lake, hopeful when Interlochen has concerts.

Nature Lovers Lakefront Paradise convenient to Interlochen

  • 5 of 5

Sitting on the patio every night watching the brilliant sunset over beautiful Green Lake, watching the geese land and the mother duck lead her babies by the dock for their nightly swim, watching the baby bunny hopping around, the robin sitting on her eggs right outside the door made this special place even more so. We looked forward every night to toasting marshmallows over the fire when the sun set.

The pontoon was a wonderful perk. It was fun to boat over to Interlochen by water. My daughter graduated the end of May 2015 and we spent the week of festival there. It is a short two miles away from the campus right off the same road and down a perfect winding road through a lush forest of trees. I wish we had found this long before graduation. It was really wonderful cooking hot dogs and smores over the open fire with some of her friends and parents. They loved the property and amazing vistas. It was super comfortable.

Becky and Mike are fantastic, warm, and they do canvas and upholstery work. All the chairs and sofas have the most perfect upholstery which makes it very comfortable. The ceiling in the cottage has a perfect peak and is an excellent addition to the cottage. It just has such good feelings. It makes you feel good inside and outside.

The cottage bedroom has a forest view, and laying in the bed you look at trees and they have a bird feeder right outside. There are also lots of hummingbirds.

Sleeping in the boathouse was exceptional. The warm walls reflect all the colors of the sunset and the lake ripples and colors. It is magical and beautiful and the beds are very comfortable.

The kitchen had just about anything a great chef could possibly need. It definitely had everything we possibly hoped for and lots of great dishes too. We replaced the paper plates and plastic forks we found there that we used when the kids came over.

I don't usually write lengthy reviews, but this cottage and property had such a wonderful feeling for the entire week rain or shine, warm or cold, it just felt great there. We loved it.

We did have five people, two couples and our daughter staying here for two of the nights. The one bathroom is the only possible thing we might change when there are that many people. It was fine and really great and the shower was strong and hot. We want to come back and stay here next year even though our daughter has graduated and we live 3,000 miles away in the Caribbean. Highly recommend!

Great Cottage for Summer Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage in August 2013. We had a great week, even though 2 or 3 days were cold (in the low 60s/high 50s) for August! Mike and Becky were great and very accomodating. We brought our German Shorthaired Pointer who loves to explore nature and swim, and she had the time of her life! We chose this cottage for our summer vacation because they allowed dogs and it came with the pontoon, but the view was also spectacular and quite a perk. It's a little close to neigbors, but Mike and Becky had no problem with our dog being off the leash (which was probably heaven for her).

We also used the kayak and canoe, and it was definitely fun. There is a little creek that Mike told us about across the lake from the cottage that is a treat to kayak down. Very relaxing and you get a chance to feel close with nature.

Traverse City wasn't too far away, so we went a couple times during the week, but the majority of our time was spent at the cottage.

The boathouse had quite a few spiders in it, so that freaked me out a bit, but it wasn't a big deal.

We cleaned before we left, so we got our cleaning deposit back which is a nice option. I'd rather clean myself than pay for it. Overall it was a great experience, and we are looking forward to staying there again in the future!

Heavenly spot to enjoy the Michigan summer

  • 5 of 5

This private little cottage, which could come with pontoon and boat house if arranged, is a self-cleaning unit, which is ideal for small families who like a place where they can feel right at home and comfortable. There is lots of space for kids to run around outside where they can be watched, a deck to chill out on, and a lovely view. The pontoon is a real plus as its expensive and hard to come by separately, and transforms the lakeside experience entirely. We were even able to enjoy sunset evenings listening to the sounds of Interlochen concerts from the pontoon - which is a real "locals" experience. The cottage is simple, small, but perfectly adequate and is well equipped. We had a wonderful two weeks stay. The owners, Mike and Becky are super hospitable, and accomodating, and made us feel so welcome! It transformed our summer experience in Interlochen.
