About the property

Bright, spacious 2400 sq ft Oliphant cottage located on the shores of Lake Huron with direct access to the water and great swimming opportunities. The perfect spot for a family holiday!

When you enter the cottage, you'll find a large open living room space with floor to ceiling windows that look out to the waterfront. There is ample comfortable seating - three couches, a lounge chair plus a petit table and chair set that is perfect for a family board game or a round of cards. There is a large gas fireplace set against a stone backdrop, and this fireplace is double-sided so it is also visible from the kitchen. The hardwood floors in the living area continue into the adjacent sunroom. That space has plenty of bright windows and cushioned seating, which makes it the perfect spot to relax with a book or to simply enjoy the view.

The kitchen is on the opposite side of the living room and offers ample space as well with crisp white cabinets and appliances. Many of the amenities of home are offered in this kitchen - there is a fridge/freezer, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave and much more. There is a breakfast bar space with two bar-style chairs -the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee. The dining table and six chairs are in the centre of the space, next to the fireplace and also directly in front of the patio doors which provide a great view as well as direct access out to the front deck.

One of the bedrooms, with a queen bed, can be found on the main level as well as a 3-pc bathroom. For your convenience there is also a washer and dryer available for your use.

Up the stairs to the second level of the cottage you will find a loft area that overlooks the living room space below. There is also an office space here (if you absolutely need to work while on holiday!). The master bedroom can also be found on the upper level.

The master bedroom has a great view out to the waterfront. It is a spacious room and includes a queen size bed and also has a set of patio doors out to a small upper deck so you can take in the view! There is also an additional bedroom and bathroom on this level: the bedroom has two double beds and the bathroom is a 4-piece.

Outside the main level of the cottage is a large deck looking out to the water. Here you'll find a patio table and four chairs and also a propane BBQ for your use.

Past the deck there is a small stone step-path that leads you to down to a grassy area in front of the water. This space has natural beach grass, providing a beautiful setting. Beyond that is the sandy shore of Lake Huron, where entry into the water is shallow and is great for kids and families alike.

This cottage is not far from the communities of Wiarton and Sauble Beach, where opportunities for eating out and shopping can be found. The location is also perfect for day trips up to Tobermory to visit the National Park or to enjoy boat tours. This cottage provides the comforts of home while providing a natural setting for your getaway!

Beautiful country, beautiful cottage

  • 4 of 5

We fell in love with the place as soon as we set our eyes on it. The website images don't do the cottage or the immediate surroundings justice. The cottage is spacious, exceedingly comfortable and, most importantly, on the water. The large windows facing the water allow for splendid views of what is a calm inlet. Natural light floods the living room during the day. There is a spectacular deck and wonderful large stone steps that lead you to the water. The water itself is shallow enough that you could likely walk for miles without having to completely submerge yourself.

You are only a few minutes drive from Sauble Beach. This gave us the best of both worlds. We went to Sauble to enjoy the public beach and peruse the local stores and cafes. We loved the busy beach. Kids and families - including ours - were having a grand time building sandcastles, swimming or reading a good book in a comfortable chair. This was a great contrast to the cottage's quiet surroundings. We loved both settings.

The only minor reservation. We thought having to fill up the bbq's propane tank at the end of our stay was inappropriate. That should not be a requirement given you're paying a healthy amount to stay at the cottage. Removing a tank from the bbq, putting it into your vehicle and hauling it to a gas station and paying to have it refilled is too onerous and costly a task to ask of guests.

Otherwise we really did love the cottage and our week spent there. We definitely hope to rent the cottage again in the coming summers.
