Amazing mountain retreat for our offroad adventure vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Kurt and Katie's home at the end of July 2017 for a two family 6 person vacation. We also brought 3 RZRs on a 20 foot trailer and one Yukon. There was plenty of parking for everything with space to unload. We spent two and a half days exploring the trail systems around Mt Antero, St. Elmo, Tin Cup and Taylor Park. The views right off the deck are unbeatable and the Antero trail system is just a few hundred yards from the house. It takes about 10 minutes to get to St. Elmo via Country RD 292 (Legal for OHVs/ATVs/UTVs) where you can get on the trails to Tin Cup pass and Hancock pass. We live in Denver and knew what to expect but the other family that came with us were friends of ours from our days living in Atlanta and were blown away by the trip and adventure we had. The kitchen is cozy but functional for one or two families. Satellite internet is a little slow and spotty at times but worked for the most part. The two decks are amazing with a grill and seating for all and two fourteeners right there! The fire pit was also fun to hang out around one night and the owner's gave us a good deal on a bundle of firewood so no need to worry about packing it in. We will definitely be back!

Comfortable and Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property on short notice for two days over the fourth of July. There were six adults along with our dog. (Note: if you are not a pet owner, you should not shy away from this house. It wasn't a "dog" house - it was clear that any animals that had been there had been watched closely, not allowed on the furniture, etc. No animal odor or hair.) The property location was beautiful, and the house was lovely and well kept. Part of our group went out and about during our second day there, but three of us enjoyed a day just staying at the house. The decks are wonderful for outdoor visiting, we grilled, and the large indoor table was perfect for group dining and playing cards. The living area is spacious and comfortable. While the owners live in another house on the property and even rent out another cabin nearby, at no time did the location feel crowded. We didn't feel as if we were being watched or hovered over (something I have experienced at other VRBO locations where the owners were on site), but the owners were friendly and made clear they were available if we did have questions or needs. We were adults enjoying an adult weekend and not feeling one bit stifled about it, if that makes sense. We would definitely return to this property.

Favorite Place in Colorado

  • 5 of 5

I really love this place. The setting/views are just incredible. It is very comfortable and the deck is outstanding. It does have some things that you need to consider - 1) It is far from town. (We like it's location, so no complaints here for us) 2) Cell coverage (for my carrier) was non-existent. 3) there is only 1 full bath and the other toilet is up the spiral stairs. (not a problem for us, but some may not like this) 4) although it has a great fire pit, we have not been able to use it either time we have stayed there. But, for us, the location and the house itself is just outstanding. This is a true mountain retreat. I will be back again and again.

Postcard Christmas!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Curt and Katie's chalet! The accommodations were spacious and comfortable, and the views were breathtaking! Our host and hostess were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The chalet is a 20-30 minute drive into the San Isabel National Forest (was winter and likely faster depending on road conditions) so it is far enough in to feel like we were getting away from it all but close enough to nearby Buena Vista and Salida to allow us to visit local restaurants and shops. The Goat Farm just outside of Buena Vista is a really neat place, and they sell some wonderful, locally made cheese and honey. The snowmobiling and dog sledding tours in nearby Monarch Ski Area are also quite an experience! We loved being able to spend a half day enjoying an activity and retreating back to the chalet to wind down, play cards and warm up by the fire. A short drive up the mountain to nearby St. Elmo was also a really neat experience as we got a glimpse of what life was like in the old days. Thanks to Curt and Katie for making our Christmas break one to remember!
