About Beverly Moodie
Aloha, I was born in Hawaii and have a large extended family here. However, I was raised in California, but returned to Hawaii when Bob and I retired.
Beverly Moodie purchased this House in 2009
Why Beverly Moodie chose Hilo
Lopaka's Family Lodge was originally built to accomodate family and friends. It was named in memory of my late husband, Bob (Lopaka is the Hawaiian name for Robert). It is such a lovely setting though that it seemed sad to leave it unoccupied when friends and family weren't visiting. That's when I got the idea to offer it as a vacation rental so it can be enjoyed by others.
What makes this House unique
This has been a joyful experience for me. I've met so many wonderful people from all over the world and my life has been enriched by getting to know them. Some have returned several times and I count them amongst those I call "friends".

Lovely vacation apartment!
We really enjoyed staying at Lopaka's Family Lodge. The apartment was very clean, well stocked, had a nice view, and was very convenient to other locations in and around Hilo. It was great to have the washer & dryer as well. Also, the property owner, Bev, was very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. Although it rained a lot due to the volcanic activity in the area, we managed to get in some sightseeing or beach time nearly every day. We spent a lot of time on Coconut Island. We met many friendly locals who were happy to have tourists who were brave enough to visit Hawaii while the volcano was very active. This is a lovely place to stay if you plan to visit Hilo.
Lovely house very close to rainbow falls !
We had a great time at the lopakas lodge . Thanks for your hospitality.
I'm so happy you enjoyed the lodge. It was a pleasure hosting you.
Mahalo for your comments,
Wonderful. Exceeded our expectations in every way possible. Highly recommend and will return.
All the comforts of home. Well maintained, clean, stocked with so many things from games and movies to new toothbrushes and sunscreen. In case you forget yours. Beverly has provided a special place full of Aloha and we thank her for sharing her corner of paradise.
I appreciate your positive review so very much! It was fun hosting you and I am happy to hear you will return some day. Looking forward to your next visit.
Love Lopaka's Lodge
Bev has provided a home-away-from-home experience. Her bungalow has everything needed to enjoy a happy stay, from view (Hilo Bay!) to comfort (sheets so soft!) and amenities (sharp kitchen knives!!) that are a big "cut-above" the usual place for rent. She has considered all possible circumstances and provided nicely; there truly was nothing left wanting! And, did we mention how very clean everything was, a definite plus! Loved our stay, thank you very much, we'll try and get back soon. J & T
Aloha J & T,
I am so pleased that your experience at Lopaka's was so positive. Mahalo for taking the time to share it with others. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and will definitely be happy to host you again.
A hui hou,
Lopaka's Lodge was like 'home away from home'. Bev thought of everything, from coffee and creamer for our first morning after arrival to canvas shopping bags to use for food shopping! The kitchen was very well stocked and the laundry room was fantastic and also fully stocked. Most rentals do not include things like laundry detergent, etc., but Bev's had it all. There were beach towels, sunscreen, umbrellas, the list goes on and on. The lanai was perfect for morning coffee. I especially liked the white rope lights that line the lanai which we turned on every night. They added such atmosphere (along with the coqui frogs serenading us every night)! The location is in a lovely neighborhood, an easy drive to the Volcano National Park which we visited two days and was a highlight of our two weeks. And the Hawaii Botanical Gardens was another highlight--an amazing place. Bev hugged us when we arrived and it felt like we knew her forever! We hope to return someday. Aloha!
Mahalo nui for all your nice comments, and for your very sweet personal email to me. I am so happy to hear that your experience at Lopaka's lived up to your expectations. That is always the goal and so satisfying when achieved!
Please come back soon.
Malama pono (Take care),
Hawaii Here We Come
Lopaka's Lodge fulfilled our every need. Bev went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. She has every amenity that you would have at home, available for our use. Everything was immaculate! As we were house hunting, we had moments of highs and lows. Coming back every evening to her Lodge, soothed and comforted us.
We will definitely be returning to Hilo and to the Lopaka's Lodge. And of course, we will recommend it to others.
Aloha Jerry & Paula,
Mahalo for the very nice review. It's greatly appreciated. Your visit was fun for me. I enjoyed your sharing the ups and downs of house hunting here on the East side of the Island. Hoping all the details are finalized quickly so you can soon be living the Hawaii lifestyle. Keep in touch and I'll look forward to connecting with you when you return to Hilo.
