Overview

About the property

4 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, Sleeps 8

This beautifully renovated and modernized Bahamian home retains its original grounds and garden, while enjoying modern comforts and conveniences. Driftwood sits on a hill with views of the ocean from every room. A 5-minute walk down the hill takes you to the world renowned French Leave beach (formerly Club Med), while a 10 minute walk in the other direction takes you to the restaurants and shops in the village of Governor’s Harbour. No need for a rental car!

To enter the villa from the front, you pass the 10’x30’ private pool, up the stairs, and onto an expansive porch that overlooks the landscaped grounds and ocean beyond. At the front door you enter the open plan dining hall, with large windows in front and back to welcome the cooling trade winds and sounds of the ocean. The interior is light and bright, with white walls, tiled floors and wood ceilings. To the right is the open plan family room and fully equipped modern kitchen with granite countertops, gas cooktop, and stainless steel appliances.

To the left of the dining hall are two large bedrooms. The first is a large guest/children’s bedroom with twin beds (that convert to a king), a closet, and its own bath right across the hall. The second is the downstairs master bedroom suite with ensuite bath (bathtub and shower), two closets and a king bed. Both bedrooms access a private patio for enjoying the sights and sounds of nature in the morning sunlight.

The upstairs master bedroom suite is accessed from the stairway in the hall. It has a large balcony overlooking the grounds and ocean beyond, a large bath with double sinks, and a large walk-in closet and king bed. There’s plenty of room to relax and enjoy a good book or afternoon nap.

In addition to the 3 large bedrooms in the main part of the house, Driftwood has a separate, open plan studio with bedroom, bathroom, sitting room, closet and complete kitchen. The main entrance is from another private patio at the north end of the house; the second is a level entrance into the kitchen from the back garden. In addition, the studio bath has a low threshold shower for handicapped access. The main part of the house and the one bedroom studio are joined at the shared laundry room, equipped with large washer and dryer. The studio can be locked off from the rest of the house.

The back patio and garden area are accessed from the dining hall or the studio kitchen. It is private, protected from strong winds and enjoys afternoon sunlight, perfect for outdoor grilling. After a day on the beach, enjoy a dip in the pool and drinks on the front porch. Driftwood is beautifully landscaped with tropical flowers, palm trees, and fruit and nut trees.

Driftwood is just a short walk from town and nearby dining including the Buccaneer Club and Da Perk. The Beach House’s excellent beachfront restaurant and bar is less than a mile away. Other nearby restaurants include Tippys (a 4 minute drive) and the Sunset Inn (a 5 minute drive). The historic town of Governors Harbour has grocery stores, banks with ATMs, gift shops, liquor stores, dive shop, bakery, and restaurants. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from the fishermen on the village dock. And don’t miss Friday night fish fry, a weekly beach/street party that brings together tourists and locals for food, drink, and dancing in the street.

Driftwood is fully equipped to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Amenities include air conditioning in all rooms, WIFI, mobile phone, cable TV, Video and DVD player, outdoor gas grill, beach & pool toys, beach towels, cooler, and more.

Great Villa

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Driftwood. The property was perfect for four couples! We found everything to be almost exactly as we had expected, based on the published descriptions of the property. The house was very comfortable and well equipped. Some of our group spent a lot of time enjoying the well maintained pool. The beach-goers loved French Leave Beach (10 minute walk), which we had mostly to ourselves, especially late in the afternoon. The beach was great for walking, swimming and even a bit of snorkeling. The property managers were very helpful answering questions before our visit, Misty met us when we arrived and was also pleasant and helpful during our stay. She has even gone out of her way to send on an item that was accidently left behind.

There are a few restaurants within walking distance. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor patio at the Buccaneer Restaurant and Bar. A day trip to Harbour Island, with a stop at the Glass Window Bridge is worthwhile.

If you are a light sleeper you should bring ear plugs with you. There are many free range roosters throughout the Island, it took a couple of days to get used to their early morning calls.

All of our group would not hesitate to visit again!

Owner's Response: Hi Steven, We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Driftwood. We have added a table with umbrella and chairs to the pool area, so it is even more inviting now. We hope you'll come back again next year! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and tips. Pat

Excellent home in great location

  • 5 of 5

The house was exactly as advertised. Plenty of space for 8 adults (4 couples). The location is perfect because you are walking distance to a beach, the "town" where you can get groceries/gas/etc is very close, and it's in the middle of the island so it's a shorter drive to explore either the north or south ends. Renting a car is a must so that you can explore other areas of the island. House was very clean, kitchen well stocked, wifi worked just fine, and there was a property manager (Misty) that was very accessible. Highly recommend!

family holiday

  • 4 of 5

perfect location between beach and town, 10 minute walk both ways. outside area could use more love (umbrella not suited for windy conditions etc). Lacks a lounge area on terrace (day bed, sofa). But all in all a wonderful holiday with family and would come back again

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. Have just purchased a table with umbrella and chairs to provide additional shade and seating options around the pool. We're also ordering a patio sofa and chairs for lounging on the terrace/porch. Great suggestions! We're glad you had a wonderful holiday.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in Eleuthera, we loved Driftwood, it is a fantastic house, very clean and spacious, it worked really well with the kids. The kitchen was really well equipped and Misty the property manager was really helpful and friendly.

We hired cribs and high chairs from Latoya Carey (on your list) and had one evening when Sonya came to babysit, we were very pleased with both, thank you for the recommendations.

We also rented 2 cars for the week from www.bigescarrental.com + they provided child car seats. We're so pleased we did this as it meant we could get to and from beaches quickly and easily with the kids as well as not having to lug heavy groceries.

We ate at Tippy's and 1648. We were warned off eating at Tippy's by locals as they said the staff are very unaccommodating and grumpy - this is true but the food was delicious, much much better than 1648 which was very over-priced and the food not great.

We also did a day trip to Harbour Island, which was fantastic.

French Leave (the one closest to us) was our favorite beach but we loved trying lots of different ones:- coco di mamma was good with the little ones as was Ten Bay Beach. Twin Coves was best for snorkeling.

We will definitely recommend Eleuthera Vacation Rentals to friends, the vacation was a huge success, very relaxing, a beautiful island with lots to see and do.
