Tallmadge Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, possibly 3, 1 bath/shower, fully furnished, 2 acres, indoor grill

1890’s Victorian style home is comfortably furnished with a fully equipped kitchen and a large dining area, large living room and the old fashion parlor. First floor bathroom includes a tub/shower combo. A four bedroom house with two that are available and others unused.

When you stay here, you will enjoy the tranquil setting of the country. Relax with your cup of coffee and a good book on the front porch. Enjoy the evening in the enclosed garden room overlooking the backyard and grilling on the built in charcoal grill. You might see the neighbors’ horses grazing in the fields next to our house. Often we watch the birds, squirrels and other wildlife playing in yard.

Our Guests have access to the entire house with a few exceptions.

The house sits back from the road and the area is full of large oak and maple trees that give it a very established beautiful environment. The original house on this farm was built in 1826 and is across from this house. The original family built my house in 1895 and I am only the third owner of this house since it was built. The 1826 house was part of the Underground Railroad, and my house was built for possible use for that purpose also, but since the Civil War was recently over at the time very little, if any use was made of if for that purpose.

Tallmadge is a great place to live and visit and there are so many things to do and see in our area it is hard to fit them all in this short description! The local farmers market located in the Tallmadge recreation parking lot (46 N Munroe Rd) June through October on Thursdays, 4 to 7pm is a great place to pick up some fresh veggies and meet the local people.

Our house is just a few minutes from Interstate 76 just east of Akron Ohio

Thank you for taking a look at our space. We love our house but at the present time are not able to live in Ohio due to temporary work relocation. Someone will greet you upon arrival to show you around our home and answer any questions you may have.

We want you to feel at home but ask that you treat our space better then you would a hotel.

*We do allow pets (each pet must be approved before booking) This means I will be asking you questions about your furry family member.

REVIEWS FROM PAST GUESTS:

Mason:

My wife and I stayed at Ian's home for one night during a cross country trip. It is a charming old farmhouse on a large property with 2 nice horses one property away. We enjoyed staying here and we appreciate this being the only Airbnb for many miles.

Ks

Great comfy old farm house. Parlor with baby grand piano and marimba were a bonus. Tallmadge was a nice area to explore from, and our hosts did everything they could to be sure we were comfortable and had what we needed.

Colin:

We had a great time at the home. It was very nice and very comfortable. The host was very welcoming and available for any concerns we may have had (though we had none). We would definitely stay there again. Thank you!!

Heather

The house was quite and easy to locate. We only stayed one night and the window a/c kept the house at a good temp.

Sheila:

The house was very nice and everyone was very accommodating and available to help with any problems.

Katie:

The house was very charming - everything about it was clean, well kept, and comfortable. My kids loved the yard, play set, and especially the horses grazing on the property. I would definitely rent it again if we head back to Akron in the future. Thanks :)

Zac:

The host was very informative on setting us up in the house. The house was very nice. It is in a very pretty country setting. The house is well appointed and just what we needed. I would stay here again and would recommend it to others looking to stay in the Akron area.

Erica:

Great place to stay if visiting in the area. The house was super comfortable and in great shape and the yard was just beautiful. Tallmadge central is close by with some nice restaurants. Ian was very responsive and accommodating.

Eileen:

Thank you Ian, the house was just right for our stay in Tallmadge. We were working in nearby Ravenna and it was wonderful to stay in your house as opposed to a hotel. The site was quiet, and we enjoyed the horses out the back window. Beds were comfy and clean. Lynn met us when we arrived and showed us all around. Thank you again.

Jillian:

I stayed at the house for 6 months thanks to Ian. He was so accommodating for my long stay. Through the whole winter he and his mother were always available if I needed anything. They were respectful of my privacy and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and had the best stay possible! I would definitely recommend staying at this house!!

Fatiha:

I am no stranger to traveling to Akron, Ohio and also no stranger to the poor standard of hotels on offer. And after checking into one of America's leading hotel chain rooms and not being able to open the window we duly checked out the next morning. Fortunately, we found a lovely house in nearby Tallmadge available and how delightful and refreshing this particular stay proved to be in comparison to past years. Never again will we seek to stay in an Akron area hotel. The house is ideally located to restaurants, shops and located in a wonderful leafy rural like setting. The house itself is charming, beds comfortable, modern bathroom and overall a delight to come back to at the end of each of the days we were present.

About Ian

Ian has Bachelor of Music degrees in both Trumpet Performance and Jazz Studies from The University of Akron. He has a Master's of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Kent State University. He has toured nationally and internationally with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, performed for two US Presidential Inaugural Balls in Washington DC, and actively freelances in the NE Ohio region. He has performed with over 100 musical groups in the area, and frequently travels to Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, and New York City to perform. In addition Ian has also become active as a sound engineer with various musical groups including society bands, Latino groups, Jewish orchestras, and opera productions. Ian is very handy and fixed up the old barn in the back of the property and made it into an instrument repair business. Currently, Ian and his daughter live in Florida and commute back to Ohio most weekends.

Ian purchased this farmhouse in 2000

Why Ian chose Ohio

I was not looking for a home when I bought this property. As a child I grew up on a dairy farm in the country and this property immediately made me feel totally at home while still being very conveniently located. I fell in love at first sight. I immediately put my previous home up for sale in the city of Akron and bought this property.

What makes this farmhouse unique

***NOTE pictures of an enclosed patio with an indoor BBQ that is built into the chimney. Charcoal, not gas.

All surrounding properties are larger lots and were part of the original farm this house was part of.

Quiet and Lovely

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 1 night as an alternative to camping. We have a 7 month old and 2 dogs (one elderly) and had planned on camping at Cuyahoga, but due to rain, decided to find a house for the night. Because we wanted to drop the dogs off earlier in the day and still get a hike in, Ian was kind enough to allow us an early check in. His mother greeted us and showed us around. This was quite nice, as it is an old home and she was able to show us where everything was! While we only needed 1 room, there was space on the second floor for more guests. The grounds are beautiful! Unfortunately, the horses weren't out, but it was nice to have land around you. There is a very cool sun room that has a built-in grill, which my husband loved, so we grilled out Saturday night. It was quite nice to be able to stay inside and grill, and this is great for colder weather! We had everything we could have possibly needed! It was only about a 20 minute drive to Cuyahoga Valley NP. We would definitely stay again!

Family Friendly

  • 5 of 5

Ian's enjoyable country kitchen & living area was relaxing for sharing a special Family Meal & Evening together & the outdoor space was very beautiful too. We enjoyed the sun-room with the covered-grill & while watching the horses behind the white fence. The atmosphere was open and roomy, with all the kitchen tools needed. We enjoyed the stay very much & appreciated Ian & his Parent's efforts to create the Victorian Home. Our plans were last minute & Ian facilitated a smooth experience. We traveled about 50 minutes to the Cleveland Aquarium the next day & that was also very worthwhile ! Thank -You! Lisa & David

Spacious property, with useful areas in and out of doors

  • 3 of 5

7 of us travelled from England to share this property so we could attend a wedding. There were lots of areas to allow us all to have our own space. I managed to cater for 9 for an evening meal and 11 for lunch. The space, large pots and availability of serving dishes lent itself for catering while away from home. The Indorf's were very helpful once again.

A Work in Progress

  • 4 of 5

Ian's love for his Victorian farm house is evident, and his plans for further improvements are worthy of support. Unlike the older home across the lane which has undergone a rapid professional update, this is a work in progress and guests who arrive later this year or next may have an experience quite different from ours. At the top of our list of positive responses to our month-long stay in June 2016 is location. For easy access by automobile to almost anywhere in northeast Ohio or western Pennsylvania, this is a superb place. Our own day trips extended to Elyria to the northwest and Columbus to the southwest. GPS quickly took us from the house to west Akron, Fairlawn, and Montrose along back streets without need to resort to the Interstate. A second positive is setting. We loved having horses, rabbits, and deer as neighbors. A third positive is convenient shopping and public parks. West Street in nearby Tallmadge offers a small whole-foods and organic market, a conventional grocery, and an unusual bakery (Our Daily Bread). The Lions Park off Northeast Street is great and is only one among many nearby. No laundry facilities in the house, but a coin laundry quite nearby and places to leave laundry for wash-dry-fold are not far, such as the Village Laundry on Albrecht in Ellet with a very appealing coffee house a short distance away on the corner with Canton Road. Less positive is the living room furniture, particularly the long sofa which is near the end of a long life, and the bathroom (certainly functional but basic and with a heavily worn sink). The kitchen, although equipped with a comfortable large table and supportive chairs, is not well equipped for meal preparation although it is a welcoming gathering place. In summary, we share Ian's optimism about his home--in most ways a real find--and appreciate his generosity in sharing it with travelers. We hope there will continue to be real cooperative synergy from supportive visitors so that he can continue to turn it into the home of his dreams. His mother gave us a fine orientation to the house and he was available via email or telephone for advice and counsel throughout our stay.

Excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

Ian and Lynn were very gracious and welcoming hosts. Their house had a lot of charm and character. We particularly love the old- fashioned indoor grill. They welcomed us and both our two little dogs. I highly recommend their home as a place to stay in Ohio.
