Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, possibly 3, 1 bath/shower, fully furnished, 2 acres, indoor grill

1890’s Victorian style home is comfortably furnished with a fully equipped kitchen and a large dining area, large living room and the old fashion parlor. First floor bathroom includes a tub/shower combo. A four bedroom house with two that are available and others unused.

When you stay here, you will enjoy the tranquil setting of the country. Relax with your cup of coffee and a good book on the front porch. Enjoy the evening in the enclosed garden room overlooking the backyard and grilling on the built in charcoal grill. You might see the neighbors’ horses grazing in the fields next to our house. Often we watch the birds, squirrels and other wildlife playing in yard.

Our Guests have access to the entire house with a few exceptions.

The house sits back from the road and the area is full of large oak and maple trees that give it a very established beautiful environment. The original house on this farm was built in 1826 and is across from this house. The original family built my house in 1895 and I am only the third owner of this house since it was built. The 1826 house was part of the Underground Railroad, and my house was built for possible use for that purpose also, but since the Civil War was recently over at the time very little, if any use was made of if for that purpose.

Tallmadge is a great place to live and visit and there are so many things to do and see in our area it is hard to fit them all in this short description! The local farmers market located in the Tallmadge recreation parking lot (46 N Munroe Rd) June through October on Thursdays, 4 to 7pm is a great place to pick up some fresh veggies and meet the local people.

Our house is just a few minutes from Interstate 76 just east of Akron Ohio

Thank you for taking a look at our space. We love our house but at the present time are not able to live in Ohio due to temporary work relocation. Someone will greet you upon arrival to show you around our home and answer any questions you may have.

We want you to feel at home but ask that you treat our space better then you would a hotel.

*We do allow pets (each pet must be approved before booking) This means I will be asking you questions about your furry family member.

REVIEWS FROM PAST GUESTS:

Mason:

My wife and I stayed at Ian's home for one night during a cross country trip. It is a charming old farmhouse on a large property with 2 nice horses one property away. We enjoyed staying here and we appreciate this being the only Airbnb for many miles.

Great comfy old farm house. Parlor with baby grand piano and marimba were a bonus. Tallmadge was a nice area to explore from, and our hosts did everything they could to be sure we were comfortable and had what we needed.

Colin:

We had a great time at the home. It was very nice and very comfortable. The host was very welcoming and available for any concerns we may have had (though we had none). We would definitely stay there again. Thank you!!

Heather

The house was quite and easy to locate. We only stayed one night and the window a/c kept the house at a good temp.

Sheila:

The house was very nice and everyone was very accommodating and available to help with any problems.

Katie:

The house was very charming - everything about it was clean, well kept, and comfortable. My kids loved the yard, play set, and especially the horses grazing on the property. I would definitely rent it again if we head back to Akron in the future. Thanks :)

Zac:

The host was very informative on setting us up in the house. The house was very nice. It is in a very pretty country setting. The house is well appointed and just what we needed. I would stay here again and would recommend it to others looking to stay in the Akron area.

Erica:

Great place to stay if visiting in the area. The house was super comfortable and in great shape and the yard was just beautiful. Tallmadge central is close by with some nice restaurants. Ian was very responsive and accommodating.

Eileen:

Thank you Ian, the house was just right for our stay in Tallmadge. We were working in nearby Ravenna and it was wonderful to stay in your house as opposed to a hotel. The site was quiet, and we enjoyed the horses out the back window. Beds were comfy and clean. Lynn met us when we arrived and showed us all around. Thank you again.

Jillian:

I stayed at the house for 6 months thanks to Ian. He was so accommodating for my long stay. Through the whole winter he and his mother were always available if I needed anything. They were respectful of my privacy and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and had the best stay possible! I would definitely recommend staying at this house!!

Fatiha:

I am no stranger to traveling to Akron, Ohio and also no stranger to the poor standard of hotels on offer. And after checking into one of America's leading hotel chain rooms and not being able to open the window we duly checked out the next morning. Fortunately, we found a lovely house in nearby Tallmadge available and how delightful and refreshing this particular stay proved to be in comparison to past years. Never again will we seek to stay in an Akron area hotel. The house is ideally located to restaurants, shops and located in a wonderful leafy rural like setting. The house itself is charming, beds comfortable, modern bathroom and overall a delight to come back to at the end of each of the days we were present.

About Ian

Ian has Bachelor of Music degrees in both Trumpet Performance and Jazz Studies from The University of Akron. He has a Master's of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from Kent State University. He has toured nationally and internationally with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, performed for two US Presidential Inaugural Balls in Washington DC, and actively freelances in the NE Ohio region. He has performed with over 100 musical groups in the area, and frequently travels to Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, and New York City to perform. In addition Ian has also become active as a sound engineer with various musical groups including society bands, Latino groups, Jewish orchestras, and opera productions. Ian is very handy and fixed up the old barn in the back of the property and made it into an instrument repair business. Currently, Ian and his daughter live in Florida and commute back to Ohio most weekends.

Ian purchased this farmhouse in 2000

Why Ian chose Tallmadge

I was not looking for a home when I bought this property. As a child I grew up on a dairy farm in the country and this property immediately made me feel totally at home while still being very conveniently located. I fell in love at first sight. I immediately put my previous home up for sale in the city of Akron and bought this property.

What makes this farmhouse unique

***NOTE pictures of an enclosed patio with an indoor BBQ that is built into the chimney. Charcoal, not gas.

All surrounding properties are larger lots and were part of the original farm this house was part of.

Delightful, clean and cozy beautiful home on a lovely piece of land convenient to everything.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 5 nights in this lovely country home. It is located in Tallmadge close to Brimfield and Kent State. The surrounding country roads are beautiful with rolling hills. Sunny Hill Golf course is just down the street. The kitchen is beautiful and clean and has a view of the property including a pasture with a couple of horses. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would have loved to stay the rest of summer! The home has what you need and more. It is a one bathroom home so we opted to stay in the bedroom downstairs next to the bathroom. There is a charming larger bedroom with dressers upstairs. It was really fun to stay there and enjoy the home and property.

Owner's Response: We are always grateful to have wonderful guests like these. There is a second bathroom but is adjoining to a master bedroom and only made available when more people are staying. Thank you so much for being such excellent tenants. Ian.

A lovely place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house is delightfully comfortable and was clean and cozy for our family. It had everything we needed and was a wonderful home away from home. Communication with the owner was amazing and Lynn perfectly introduced the house to us. The little one loved to watch the horses, and the barbecue on the screened in porch was a highlight! Will definitely return if we find ourselves in the area again!

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

Really peaceful and relaxing home! Iam and Lynne were fantastic hosts who were absolutely easy and pleasant to work with. We visited the area for a conference and had to make a special request. Iam and Lynne were truly accommodating and made our trip even more enjoyable and less stressful by granting our request. House had a lot of room and was extremely comfortable. The friendly horses next door were a great bonus. Highly recommended!
