About Mary & Stephen Bauer

Stephen and I have been married forever, have 2 boys, Sebastian and Raiff. We are designers by trade, and have a business where we design and manufacture baby furniture and decor. We built a beautiful log cabin lodge in the mountains a few years back and have always dreamed of designing a sexy, luxury ocean front space. This is the fruit of our labor. I got a vision for the type of space I wanted, something completely different from everything we had done before, decidedly modern, sexy, and not too big. So, we set out to find the space.

Stephen and our boys did all of the work, ripping out every single thing, re- insulating, updating the wiring, plumbing, everything. We were limited somewhat in our ability to change things because of load bearing walls and things like that, but where we could, we reinvented the space. I especially love the reinvention of the bathroom and kitchen.

Stephen is from S. Africa and grew up by the sea, so in a way, this is like coming home for him. I am a Baltimore girl, born and bred, and although I've traveled and lived all over the world, Ocean City holds a special magic for me. I'm thrilled to see this city take on a new elegance and refinement with great restaurants and wine bars.

When Stephen was renovating, he woke up every morning and marveled at the rising sun. We have so many beautiful photos, and no two are alike.

This apartment is dead sexy, no other way to describe it. It's modern, and fresh and all brand new. We hope you rediscover romance and luxuriate in the beauty of this lovely space.

Why Mary & Stephen Bauer chose Maryland

We choose this property because the Golden Sands Club is amazing! It has so many amenities, is ocean front, is well known, has iconic design and people here are nice! This particular unit struck us because it was ocean front, on the 15th floor, which makes the views outrageous, and it offered the ability to move a wall and open up the floor plan, which was essential to our vision. Also, it was 1 bedroom, and was just the right size for the project we had in mind.

Great space to enjoy each other and the beach!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were lucky enough to find this space for a last minute 1 yr anniversary getaway. I was starting a new job, and we didn't think we'd have time to celebrate, but luckily we were able to do a 3 day weekend! The condo was clean, and kept well. Everything was modernized and the view from the balcony was amazing! I could have sat out there all day, everyday, listening to the waves crash! We had a great stay and highly recommend this great condo! Thank you for allowing us to share your place!

The property is gorgeous and pristinely clean- it is modern yet coastal. The view from the living area is breathtaking. It was such a nice stay & the living room television has Netflix- which is a major plus! We will definitely be back again, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in ocean city!

Mixed Experience

  • 2 of 5

The unit was nice, but dirty. Upon arrival sand was on the floor. The bath matts were wet and smelled with urine. Kudos to the owners for the euro renovations that look nice. The master bath shower looked great, but unfortunately water sprayed onto the floor. The unit had no paper towels or toilet paper. Not a roll. The AC was malfunctioning with constant on and off every 30 seconds. Somewhat annoying since the compressor is adjacent to the MBR. Good plus on LR flatscreen wifi TV with Netflix. MBR had a basic cable unit. Lastly, the view of the ocean is lovely, but if you have a sleeping guest in the living room, the morning sun is too bright. The sliding glass doors need shades.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry to hear that your stay at our condo was less than spectacular. We hire an outside cleaning service to completely clean the space after every stay. Thank you for letting us know about the bath mat, it will be replaced immediately. It is our expectation that the space be absolutely and perfectly clean when each guest arrives. If ever the space is less than that, please contact Coldwell Banker office on the first floor and let them know. They will arrange to have the issues taken care of. Guests are responsible for their own paper products, sheets, towels and garbage bags. You should have been made aware of this at the time you booked the condo. If you were not, please let us know and we will address this with our rental agent, Coldwell Banker. The air conditioner is linked to the sliding glass doors. It will shut off should the doors remain open longer than 5 minutes. In the welcome pack you received from HomeAway regarding your stay, it does address the AC shut off feature and we are sorry if you did not see it. Thank you for you opinion about a shade on the glass door. We will seriously consider adding that. We so appreciate you taking the time to tell of us your experience, and again, we are so sorry it was less than you expected. Your opinion matters greatly, and we will be addressing some of your issues with Coldwell Banker in the hopes of ensuring everyone always has a fantastic stay at Oceanaire. Sincerely, Stephen & Mary Bauer

Sleek, modern, luxurious, AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

This property was by far the most beautiful I've ever stayed in. The condo was squeaky clean and absolutely gorgeous. The property was small but had everything you could possibly need (except trash bags, haha. We weren't aware we had to bring them). The size of the condo made it cozy and intimate. My boyfriend and I took the bedroom and his son took the queen sleeper sofa with no complaint. The shower was luxurious and creatively placed, loved it. All of the appliances were brand new and worked wonderfully. The shower drain was clogged but we easily removed it and cleaned it out. I believe they have the air conditioning set to always return to 74 degrees which was a little warm for us at times, but ended up not being a problem. The view was spectacular of course. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I would think having four people stay here could be a little cramped when it comes to taking showers and bathroom usage, but definitely doable. Thank you guys so much for sharing you're amazing home with us!

Modern, peaceful, serene

  • 5 of 5

This condo was absolutely beyond words. It was like walking into a magazine or a home show makeover. Everything was new, crisp, clean and modern. Clean lines and very serene. The view of the ocean from the balcony is amazing. We saw a double rainbow begin and end in the ocean right outside the balcony. The owners and property rental through Coldwell Banker made everything easy and seamless. My fiance and I got married while in OC for the week and tied our honeymoon into our rental week. We will definitely return to this property. Thank you so much Stephen and Mary for creating a beautiful escape. You should be proud of the space you created.

Relaxing, quiet early Fall off season stay

  • 5 of 5

We arrived for our stay on a Monday afternoon to a quick simple check-in right on the premises of the Golden Sands. We found the unit to be clean, modern and well equipped with a beautiful view from the 15th floor. The layout of the unit maximizes the use of space with a combo washer/dryer In the bedroom, an open shower and similar efficient use of space in the kitchen/living room. Both the bedroom and living room are equipped with flat panel TVs. The wife and I especially enjoyed leafing through the coffee table books of pictures of aristocrats from the 50's, 60's and 70's adding a nice distraction from the usual Internet surfing. Having stayed in many, many units in OCMD over the last 25 years we highly recommend this unit. The Golden Sands maintenance staff were a life saver helping to resolve a leaking tire valve stem on the morning of departure. The unit was reasonably priced and the owners quick to respond to any questions. Thanks for letting us enjoy Bauerhaus!

Ocean City
Car: not necessary

Ocean City, Maryland has everything you need for a dream vacation on the sea. Beautiful beaches, abundant entertainment options, spas and salons, a stellar performing arts center, amusement parks, varied night life, world class cuisine, festivals throughout the year, great music, beautiful sunrises and romantic sunsets. Festivals inlcude Springfest, , the OC Air Show, and the multi-million dollar White Marlin Open. Free movies, concerts and fireworks on the beach. And the list goes on. A trip along our boardwalk, built in 1902 is something truly special. The Travel Channel called Ocean City's classic 3 mile long wooden boardwalk America's best. National Geographic named it one of the top 10 in the U.S. And USA Today named it one of the nation's best boardwalks for food. Start your day on the Ocean City boardwalk with a morning bike ride. You can bring your own, or rent one from one of our many bike shops. Or, if you'd rather just sit back and ride, the boardwalk tram can whisk you anywhere in minutes, while you enjoy a beautiful ocean view. If you love shopping, take a trip just a few miles up the coast and take advantage of Delaware's tax free outlets. You'll find all the top brands.

If you're up for day tripping, there's some amazing things to see and do. Ocean City is located in Worcester County, Maryland. Explore the arts, crafts, history and recreational opportunities in our neighboring towns – along with delicious fruits and vegetables fresh from Delmarva's famous farms. Then there are the Assateague wild horses and ponies. Legend says they're descended from a herd that swam ashore from a sinking Spanish galleon in the 17th century. Visitors are mesmerized by the horses' grace and beauty. There's a 3.5 mile bike trail throughout the island.

The county seat, settled in 1642, comes alive with history and the arts. Designated an Arts and Entertainment District, Snow Hill's quaint downtown is the scene of First Fridays, Arts on the River, a unique bookstore and several art galleries. You can also experience life, 1840s-style, at the Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum, a re-creation of the 19th-century village at Nassawango Iron Furnace. Or spend a leisurely day kayaking or canoeing on the Pocomoke River or Nassawango Creek.

A visit to Berlin is a trip back in time. Pick up your guide to a walking tour, which will lead you to 47 homes in Berlin listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Also an Arts and Entertainment District, Berlin is filled with art galleries, antique stores and specialty shops. Recently named "America's Coolest Small Town"! You'll find excellent fishing just a short way down the river in Pocomoke Sound. Or explore the city's museums and the Marva Theater, a magnificent 1920s Art Deco theater that now hosts both movies and live productions. Pocomoke City's newest attraction is the Delmarva Discovery Center, located right on the riverbank. . It's also home to an 8,000-gallon aquarium.

Summers are packed and super fun, but the remaining months offer other charms. For example, the crowds thin out, and the whole town becomes far more peaceful. And the rules change when summer ends, for example, you can ride your bike on the boardwalk and walk your dog on the beach. (From May 1st to September 30th, dogs are not permitted on the beach.) In the summer, bike riding is only allowed early in the morning due to the heavy pedestrian population throughout the day and evening, but in the fall, winter, and spring, you can enjoy a pleasant bike ride any time of the day! There are other winter activities such as ice skating, indoor mini golf, cinemas, sightseeing, festivals, bowling and more. Many businesses close, but enough stay open so you can always find a great meal, some live music, and good bottle of wine.

Ocean City is perfect destination for a romantic get away or a family vacation any time of the year.
