About Zoé Strecker

My sister and I are hosts of this charming artist's cottage. It was formerly our mother's ceramic studio and later her own home.

My sister is a metal sculptor, and I am an artist and a professor at Transylvania University. My husband is a studio potter and sculptor. We have two daughters. We all love to explore other places but are deeply attached to the vibrant and beautiful city of Lexington.

I live on a farm and sell free range eggs on the porch of the main house in a self-serve fridge. If you would like delicious fresh eggs for your stay just go leave $4.00 per dozen in the envelope in the "wee-fridge" on the front porch of the main house.

Zoé Strecker purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Zoé Strecker chose Lexington

The front house was our mother's home, and this cottage was her ceramics studio

for years before she transformed it into a beautiful, colorful living space filled with all kinds of artwork, especially ceramics. For guests' enjoyment we keep books, objects collected during our own travel and some family memorabilia throughout the house and yard. Outdoors are flowers, fruit and nut trees, grape vines and ornamental perennials.

This cottage is an oasis of comfort and beauty in the heart of the city.

I am in Lexington almost every day and my sister lives only 3 blocks away, across the park so we are available as needed. Happy to provide recommendations. Info on some of the amazing local culture will be left on the table for you to peruse. As you can tell by our listing we are NEW to HomeAway, and look forward to hosting you, and getting your feedback on our lovely retreat cottage in the heart of Lexington.

What makes this cottage unique

You will love the screened-in porch downstairs with outdoor furniture and dining space and the open balcony upstairs under the shade of grape vines and trees.

Proximity to Woodland Park is a special feature. The park is like an arboretum with old trees and a lovely flower garden, walking paths, a terrific swimming pool, playground, tennis courts, skateboard park, basketball courts, and baseball field. Our cottage is walkable to most of downtown Lexington. The brand new 24-hour Kroger grocery store is one block away.

Many restaurants and bars nearby in the Chevy Chase Neighborhood. Downtown is walkable- with even more dining and entertainment options. Close to the University of Kentucky, all hospitals and Translyvania University. Minutes to Keeneland (7.3 miles and a straight shot- literally one turn from the cottage) and Rupp Arena (1.6 miles), and not a far drive to the Kentucky Horse Park (9.6 miles) or other interesting attractions, It's in a really great location.

We just increased the WiFi signal for guests.

Great Little Place in a Nice Location

  • 4 of 5

This is a really nice little cottage in the city. Great location, only two short blocks from everything you need - grocery store, breakfast joint, wine/beer store, good restaurant and a real good beer bar. It's an easy walk through a safe neighborhood. There's a big park right across the street too. The university campus is in walkable distance too. It's in close proximity to downtown.

As far as the cottage goes, the open kitchen, dining and living area is plenty roomy so you can have your own space. The kitchen is fully stocked, and now includes a large saute pan we added. We needed a larger pan due to big breakfast plans. The couch makes a comfortable bed and the murphy bed worked well. The stairway is set in a way that you can work around it as you move about the lower level. The screened porch is a great place to hang out, and the deck off the upstairs is a nice addition on sunny days. The upstairs is plenty roomy as a place for the kids to get away from the parents. Upstairs has a small couch and chairs, a queen bed, plus a desk if you feel like setting up your laptop.

There were a couple small things keeping this from being a five star review....The pull out bedding upstairs is great for regular size folk, but for us 6+ footers, the mattresses were a bit short. Also, the upstairs half bath really needs a better "screen" to separate it from the living area. That's it.

The most important thing....Would I stay at the cottage again? Yes I would.

Quiet, comfortable, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this visit was excellent! This place is clean with high end appliances and an open floor plan. The artistic vibe is great and the restaraunts and farmers market in the area are fantastic. I'll stay here again if I'm ever back in Lexington.

Very charming

  • 4 of 5

Adorable place, so charming! Beds were super comfy. Location was relatively convenient to KHP. Great park across the street, grocery store up the road. Might be tight for 5 people though since the half bath has no real privacy. We were a party of three and fit just fine. Internet was slow, but when I mentioned it to Zoe she was quick to offer to fix it. Bathroom was a good size and stocked with plenty of towels. Would stay here again for sure! If you have small children, I wld stay elsewhere - although this place is adorable, it is NOT child friendly!

Unbelievably charming.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in the Clay Cottage. It is across the street from a lovely park in a quiet neighborhood, and one block from a very nice grocery store. The cottage is much larger inside than it looks from the outside. My family of four had room to spare. Everywhere you look, there is artwork, but it never felt like it was "in the way". The owner provided everything we needed to feel right at home, including comfortable beds! This would not be the right choice for a family with young children, due to the open staircase to the loft, as well as all of the pottery, but our two teenagers loved it.
