About Karla T. Ward
We have a deep family history rooted in Saluda. My husband grew up there and my parents used this home as a summer getaway. My husband and I now own the home. We live in Texas, but travel to the mountains several times a year maintaining our home and yard.I have a Maltese who flies with me and spends time in Saluda. I always have a warm heart the entire time I am there.
Karla T. Ward purchased this House in 1979
Why Karla T. Ward chose Saluda
This will be our retirement home one day. Until then, we would love to have special people enjoying it as much as we do.
What makes this House unique
I have traveled to Europe several times. Saluda reminds me of the quaint European towns in Germany. To this day there is still not one franchise business in downtown Saluda. You can't get more Americana than that!

The Victorian home is in a setting from many years ago which made the lure even more charming. I would recommend your next get away to Western Nc to include a stay in Saluda .
A lovely lovely home and a delightful small town. Enjoyed our weekend so much.
So glad you and your girls finally got together.
I only wish I could have tried all the beautiful bedrooms! It’s a lovely home, full of character and surprising touches.
Charming and relaxing
Karla is a wonderful host , the home is so charming and well equipped . The downtown area is literally walkable and has everything you need. Be warned all stores close by 6, since I’m from a larger city it took me a bit by surprise . There is a little BBQ place down the hill with great food and friendly staff . There are several hiking options close by and both Hendersonville and Asheville are very accessible . I get up to this area about once a year and plan on coming right back here!
Thank you for your comments. We love our home. When we are there we also enjoy the hiking and my sisters Green River B B Que.
please consider us with your future travel plans!
charming and comfortable Victorian house
The photos do capture the charm of the house but there is so much more. Everything we needed was there (dishes, laundry pods, fluffy towels). The house is like a museum, full of objects collected over time and so fun to explore. The porches were perfect for morning coffee and sunsets with wine. The location is perfect. We couldn’t find it at first because we never guessed it was up the hill behind the farmers market. What a great spot to be in for the summer vegetables. It was a rare treat to have two nights in this hidden treasure.
Yes the Farmers market is quite unique. I always buy the sunflowers 🌻 during the summer.
Please come back soon.
My husband and I were looking for somewhere to take his mother and her sister in law (both 88 years old,) for a long weekend. We found this home and they absolutely loved it!!!!! We took them in through the back door to avoid the front door steps but they did love sitting on the front porch. They both slept in the bedroom downstairs and we used the fireplace in that room to warm it up for them. At first we could not figure out how to light the fireplace so I sent the owner of the home a message. She responds very quickly and has someone close to come and help with all your needs. The inside of the house was like stepping back in time which was perfect since I had rented Gone with the Wind for the ladies to watch. I would suggest this home and the surrounding area for anyone wanting a wonderful relaxing vacation.
Short but memorable excursions include a full array of water activies on the nearby Green River, Pearson Falls, Chimney Rock at Lake Lure, the Biltmore House, and Famous Poet Carl Sandburg's Home, to name a few.
