About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Beautifully maintained Victorian home that has been in our family for over 30 years. Even though it is 150 years old, it has all the modern conveniences. In every room, you will be quite comfortable with plenty of room to spread out if you wish. The flooring, ceilings and wainscoting are showcased in lovely heart pine.

The gazebo-style front porch beckons you to relax with a drink, a book, or games from sunrise to sunset. You will delight in a yard of native wildflowers, a Koi pond waterfall, and gorgeous Dogwoods. The peaceful setting will make your stay even more enjoyable.

Our home is a convenient stroll to Main Street for shopping, antiquing, a cup of coffee, an old-fashioned soda, or a delicious meal. Meander through the quaint neighborhoods or enjoy a brisk run through the pine tree-lined streets. There is something for everyone.

Our housekeeper charges $125.00 for cleaning. This is left in cash on the kitchen table. This is not included in your quote.

About Karla T. Ward

We have a deep family history rooted in Saluda. My husband grew up there and my parents used this home as a summer getaway. My husband and I now own the home. We live in Texas, but travel to the mountains several times a year maintaining our home and yard.I have a Maltese who fly with me and spend time in Saluda. I always have a warm heart the entire time I am there.

Karla T. Ward purchased this house in 1979

Why Karla T. Ward chose Asheville Area

This will be our retirement home one day. Until then, we would love to have special people enjoying it as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

I have traveled to Europe several times. Saluda reminds me of the quaint European towns in Germany. To this day there is still not one franchise business in downtown Saluda. You can't get more Americana than that!

A wonderful respite

  • 5 of 5

Another wonderful stay at this charming home in Saluda. If you are in need of a little rest and relaxation this is the place to be. It is a short walk to their Main Street where one can leisurely browse, shop or enjoy a meal. The home is lovingly cared for and meticulously clean. If you enjoy nature the front porch is a great observation spot for a multitude of song birds that flutter in and out of the canopy of trees.

The homeowners welcome mat is always out. Once you enter it is difficult to leave. Whatever your pace , if you choose to just be and watch the fireflies in the evening or have the home as a base camp it is indeed on the corner of HAPPY!!! A group of friends have met here for the last three years and I am confident that there will be a fourth. Thank you Karla for offering this endearing home.

A perfect vacation.

This is the second time that I've stayed in this beautiful home in Saluda, but this time I came alone for some much needed quiet time. I wish I could give the house 10 stars instead of five. The house is so clean you could eat off the floor thanks to Molly who is in charge of housekeeping and who I had the pleasure of meeting when I arrived a bit too early. I had two days and two nights of pure heaven, sitting on the lovely porch watching the fireflies at night, and totally relaxing in a home that is so beautiful you feel honored to be there. I had to check out a night early when I got sick and Karla and Chuck (who happened to be visiting the area) went out of their way to help me and make things easy for me. They are like family! I will definitely be returning again and again to a place that is definite a "home away from home."

Gorgeous, comfy Victorian in downtown Saluda

  • 5 of 5

This house is even nicer than the pictures and description! Beautiful porch, yard, and trees surrounding the house makes it feel like a green oasis just a 5 minute walk from downtown Saluda. Beautiful, renovated master bed/bath and modern kitchen on the first floor with central heat/air, and three bedrooms with window units and a huge shared bath on the second floor. Beautifully decorated with curios and tasteful knick-nacks that were fortunately out of our toddler's reach. We shared the house with another family, but the house was relatively sound proof - didn't hear much of the other family's noise between upstairs and downstairs. We loved the house, garden, and location and would stay there again if we're ever back in Saluda! The hostess was very responsive to questions before the stay.
