About Ann Anda
After living in NYC for what must have been ever, I finally retired to this amazing place in 2001. And what a good decision that turned out to be. I love living in Bar Harbor year round, hiking, biking, skiing, going to Reel Pizza across the street for my bi-weekly movie fix, and sometimes I even have one of their delicious pizzas.
Ann Anda purchased this Bungalow in 1976
Why Ann Anda chose Bar Harbor
When I visited Bar Harbor in l976 the good Doctor Cameron offered me his house and office for sale. He was no longer doctoring and I fell in love with this old rambling, interconnected piece of property. I would come up here from NYC and garden on long weekends and vacations. Planting trees, flowers, bushes. But all too soon it was time to go back to my day job and I had to put everything away for the next time. Which was never soon enough. During these infrequent visits I also started the many renovations I've done to the property. It was a treasure throve of improvement possibilities, work I love. I am the most happy when I can wear my ratty old work clothes and get my hands really dirty.
What makes this Bungalow unique
Within walking distance to everything, yet nicely tucked away from the madding crowd. Not that there's much of a crowd in the winter. Perfect for summer vacations, and that's when you really need your very own parking space and a bit of breathing room to enjoy all that Bar Harbor has to offer.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Bar Harbor Vacation
The accommodations were excellent and the location couldn't be better. We had a really good time. No complaints.
Wonderful home and location
We loved our stay at Ann's bungalow! The welcome basket full of fruit, crackers, wine, cheese and coffee plus the dog biscuit for our puppy was very appreciated. We have stayed at many homeaway properties and never had a welcome basket. In addition to that, the home was stocked with paper towels, toilet paper, kitchen supplies. Very helpful!
Location was very convenient. We could walk to everything in town and Cafe This Way was across the driveway and had great breakfast food (we didn't try dinner).
Our puppy loved watching people go by from under the fence. He was tiny enough to fit under the fence so we just kept him on a leash. He was happy tho!
We will definitely look for this place next time we are going to Bar Harbor! Thank you Ann for your quick response to our questions. Your a wonderful host!
the location is superb !! the provided fans made the space very comfortable in the heat wave. Ann was great !!!
A delightful oasis
Everything the other reviewers is true, and more. The bungalow itself is so perfectly located. You are steps away from the central park where the local free shuttles wait. We did not have a car and never missed it. Ann is a great hostess, and we had a wonderful time. If you are thinking about going to Bar Harbor, this is the place.
GREAT location and VERY Dog Friendly
When we arrived at this very cute Bungalow, we were greeted by a lovely basket of wine, cheese, crackers, fruit, and coffee, which all came in handy throughout the week. Our dog was even welcomed with a biscuit, water bowl, and his own bed! You can’t beat the location. Several great restaurants, neat shops and galleries all within walking distance. There was a nice park right across the street and the Shore Path was not more than a five minute walk. The Bungalow was a nice size, clean and comfortable, and we took advantage of the patio just about every day. Ann was very pleasant. We have a large dog, and it can be difficult to find a place without size restrictions. Ann was very accommodating. All in all, this is a great place to stay!
Thank you so much, Theresa! I love to hear that my guests had a wonderful time in my Bungalow. I also appreciate how clean and well cared for you left the place and for the note telling me you were leaving early in the am. Loved you dog, too. Even though he's a big adorable guy he behaved like he wasn't even there; no barking, no banging about, no scratch, no fuss, no muss. I would love to have you all back anytime! You are perfect guests!
All things good. Greeted by HUGE gift basket - wine, cheese, coffee, crackers, apples - great foundation for breakfast and lunch for whole week. Place itself roomy, attractively decorated, comfortable, private. Location cannot be bettered - right in heart of village with everything a short walk. We were too late for the island shuttles, or we would not have needed to use car at all. Would stay again and recommend to others. Therese & Phil Stein
Thank you Therese and Phil,
I loved having you here! You were ideal guests, leaving the place even more pristine than you found it. I so appreciated your fixing the towel rack even though that was not required by you at all. I hadn't realized it was faulty. And for getting the gate door open after the wind had slammed it shut. Again, not your job to fix, but very appreciated by me. With guests like you, who needs handymen? Thank you for being wonderful! I look forward to your next visit!
The Bungalow is right smack in the center of Bar Harbor, but tucked away behind a row of galleries on Mount Desert Street. A few minutes away is the entrance to Acadia National Park with all its splendid scenic attractions. Choose from a bicycle ride on one of Rockefeller's carriage roads, or hike any number of trails from easy walking to the more strenuous and challenging ones of the Beehive and the Precipice, and any number of in-between hikes. Take the Island Explorer bus to Sand Point Beach. It leaves right up the road from the Bungalow. And it's free.
The Island Explorer bus will take you all over the island. It'll stop wherever you are on the road and pick you up. It'll let you off wherever you want to get off. it'll take you to the airport and other spots off the island. And you can bring your bicycle along. It's a great way to avoid the hassle of having to find a parking space. Of course, you can also drive your own car through the park. There's an fee at the entrance, but it's worth it. The breathtaking panorama along the Loop Road is my personal favorite. I love walking on the ledges to Thunder Hole and if it's a windy day it's always exciting to listen to the thunder as the water there is smashed through the hole in the rock. But don't go too near if a storm is brewing.
The Island offers many concerts during the season.
Classical music, jazz, folk, rock. Also theater and movies. And historic walks, bird watching tours, whale watching cruises, nature cruises, windjammer sails, kayak excursions. And, of course, you'll never run out of places to eat lobsters in all its many manifestations. A great many of the restaurants offers the freshest, locally grown produce.
The 4th of July is a celebration not to be missed in Bar Harbor. Colorful, joyous, and straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The summer season is primarily July and August. Those are the busy months and also the warmest. When the kids go back to school, taking their parents with them, the town slows down a tiny bit, but most places stay open till mid October, and the trees start turning their glorious colors in mid September. There's plenty of sights and activities to enjoy on the island from early May till the end of October. After that the town start closing down, but does not entirely go to sleep until after Christmas and New Year. The cross country skiing opportunities on the groomed carriage roads can be its own season and if the snow is generous a glorious experience for an entire winter season.
