The Bungalow is located just off Mount Desert Street as you turn into the small side street called Temple. It's between the Village Green and Cafe This Way. It has one bedroom with a queen size bed and one full size futon which can sleep two, a lovely enclosed patio and a separate Washer/Dryer room. The Bungalow is Ideal for a single person or a couple with small children. Fully renovated in 2014.
After living in NYC for what must have been ever, I finally retired to this amazing place in 2001. And what a good decision that turned out to be. I love living in Bar Harbor year round, hiking, biking, skiing, going to Reel Pizza across the street for my bi-weekly movie fix, and sometimes I even have one of their delicious pizzas.
Ann Anda purchased this bungalow in 1976
When I visited Bar Harbor in l976 the good Doctor Cameron offered me his house and office for sale. He was no longer doctoring and I fell in love with this old rambling, interconnected piece of property. I would come up here from NYC and garden on long weekends and vacations. Planting trees, flowers, bushes. But all too soon it was time to go back to my day job and I had to put everything away for the next time. Which was never soon enough. During these infrequent visits I also started the many renovations I've done to the property. It was a treasure throve of improvement possibilities, work I love. I am the most happy when I can wear my ratty old work clothes and get my hands really dirty.
Within walking distance to everything, yet nicely tucked away from the madding crowd. Not that there's much of a crowd in the winter. Perfect for summer vacations, and that's when you really need your very own parking space and a bit of breathing room to enjoy all that Bar Harbor has to offer.
We stayed at the bungalow with our dog, and we were greeted with a nice basket full of goodies (including a treat for the dog) and a bottle of wine. It was the perfect location for us, nice to be able to walk out of the bungalow and have everything in walking distance: great restaurants, shops and the harbor. Enjoyed early morning walks to the water, a full day of hiking and it was great to come back to the bungalow to relax. We were surprised how quiet once inside the apartment being so close to town and traffic. We have vacationed on the island for over 15 years trying different rentals and locations, we have finally found the perfect location for us; definitely renting again in 2017. Ann was so accommodating, we had a full size truck and she allowed us to use her own parking space, she also gave us our privacy, we only ran into her a couple of times in our early morning outings.
We just returned from a week at Ann's bungalow in Bar Harbor. The bungalow is an adorable, charming, clean apartment at the heart of Bar Harbor village - steps from the Village Green, the Island Explorer stop and all the cafes, restaurants, shops, Ocean Path and Bar Island path with your own parking space at the heart of it all. Ann is a gracious, thoughtful host who was a pleasure to interact with from booking through the end of our stay. She even left us a basket with snacks upon arrival. The apartment is exactly as pictured - it was perfect for our family of four with two young children. Highly recommended for small families, couples or singles. Wish we could have stayed longer! Bar Harbor is a slice of heaven.
The Bungalow is right smack in the center of Bar Harbor, but tucked away behind a row of galleries on Mount Desert Street. A few minutes away is the entrance to Acadia National Park with all its splendid scenic attractions. Choose from a bicycle ride on one of Rockefeller's carriage roads, or hike any number of trails from easy walking to the more strenuous and challenging ones of the Beehive and the Precipice, and any number of in-between hikes. Take the Island Explorer bus to Sand Point Beach. It leaves right up the road from the Bungalow. And it's free.
The Island Explorer bus will take you all over the island. It'll stop wherever you are on the road and pick you up. It'll let you off wherever you want to get off. it'll take you to the airport and other spots off the island. And you can bring your bicycle along. It's a great way to avoid the hassle of having to find a parking space. Of course, you can also drive your own car through the park. There's an fee at the entrance, but it's worth it. The breathtaking panorama along the Loop Road is my personal favorite. I love walking on the ledges to Thunder Hole and if it's a windy day it's always exciting to listen to the thunder as the water there is smashed through the hole in the rock. But don't go too near if a storm is brewing.
The Island offers many concerts during the season.
Classical music, jazz, folk, rock. Also theater and movies. And historic walks, bird watching tours, whale watching cruises, nature cruises, windjammer sails, kayak excursions. And, of course, you'll never run out of places to eat lobsters in all its many manifestations. A great many of the restaurants offers the freshest, locally grown produce.
The 4th of July is a celebration not to be missed in Bar Harbor. Colorful, joyous, and straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The summer season is primarily July and August. Those are the busy months and also the warmest. When the kids go back to school, taking their parents with them, the town slows down a tiny bit, but most places stay open till mid October, and the trees start turning their glorious colors in mid September. There's plenty of sights and activities to enjoy on the island from early May till the end of October. After that the town start closing down, but does not entirely go to sleep until after Christmas and New Year. The cross country skiing opportunities on the groomed carriage roads can be its own season and if the snow is generous a glorious experience for an entire winter season.
