This house has been a home to us for many years and we have loved every minute of it. Now that our children are grown and we have downsized to a smaller home nearby, we would like to share the beauty and peace of the mountain with our guests. My wife teaches at a local university and I work in quality control for a national corporation with offices in this region. We love nature and enjoy hiking the fantastic trails in the area. We also love to travel, especially to Italy. We like to make our guests comfortable and be there whenever they need us while also giving them their space and privacy. We are only four miles away if they ever need anything.
Sam & Laura purchased this house in 2003
We love the tranquillity and beauty of the mountain. In every season there is something beautiful to witness. The chance to be so close to the natural world has been a great blessing to us and has enriched our lives in ways that cannot be expressed in words.
The chance to watch the changing view of the valley and distant mountains, to hear the wood thrush in the morning and evening, to hike the trails and be in the natural world ,while also having easy access to downtown Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore House, Cataloochee ski resort, white water rafting, and all of the other great attractions in the Western North Carolina mountains has been one of the best things about life on the mountain.
My husband and I celebrated Christmas with our 3 adult children and their spouses at this beautiful property. This is a huge private home with beautiful views. The home is well stocked and very clean. This was our first trip to Ashville. We toured the beautiful Biltmore. The wood burning fireplace makes the home very cozy. We would have loved a hot tub on the deck. Sam, the owner was super nice. We will return.
We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again. The porches and their furnishings were great for enjoying the awesome view and visiting. The layout of the house facilitated the various activities that took place at the same time--for example--the guys watched the baseball game while others played a game at the dining room table, the kids played ping pong downstairs, and others visited on the porch and in the kitchen. We never felt crowded. Having 4 bedrooms, each with a full bath helped us get out the door in the morning without having to wait in line to get in the bathroom. The owners are very responsive and helpful. On the downside--the driveway is a bit of a nightmare for flat-landers like us. It is steep and narrow with a deep rain gutter on one side and a drop off on the other. Nerve racking but we all agreed it wouldn't stop us from renting the house again in the future. Outside of the need for more dusting, the house was clean and tidy. I'm betting the owners would have helped us with the following, but we didn't call them--more hand towels are needed for the bathrooms, more bowls and pots needed in the kitchen. We improvised, using a pot for the fruit bowl and tossed the salad on a platter as the other large bowls were in use for other food. But there are plenty of nice plates, small bowls, coffee cups, etc. The kitchen sink needs replacing but that was the only house issue we found yucky. It was very nice that they had detergent on hand (for washing those towels!) but we recommend getting unscented type (I know, that's nit-picking). Luckily our allergy sufferers brought their own for the laundry and the dishwasher. The only other thing is that this is not the place for anyone in a motorized wheelchair or anyone who can't handle stairways--no bedrooms on the main floor.
We brought a very big group, extended family, in-laws, four generations total, and this place was large enough for everyone, and then some. Not only are there enough spaces to sleep, but you're not on top of each other. There is outdoor seating for dinner, the ceilings are tall, and porch is huge and the views are breathtaking. The house was clean, the host was responsive, timely. We will probably return!
We really enjoyed our stay at Asheville Mountain Haven. Sam & his wife were very kind, met us at the property & were very quick to respond to any questions we had. The home was very clean & there was plenty of room for all. The views from the balconies were breathtaking. Thank you Sam for allowing us to stay at your wonderful property!
Our group of 7 stayed here for a week. This house and the views from the decks are amazing! We especially loved the morning when the fog that looked like clouds, laid in the valley and you could see the tops of the mountains peeking out above. It felt like we had a small glimpse of heaven. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed. We were pleasantly surprised that there was soap and toothpaste in all of the bathrooms. There was even soap in the kitchen for dishes and hand washing. It was so nice to have all of the bed linens and towels provided. Everything we could possibly need was already there. All we had to do was get some groceries. It was so nice to meet the owners, Sam and Laura. They were available all week if we needed anything and answered our questions about the property and things to see in the area. Our first day in Asheville we took the trolley tour of the city and stopped at Omni Grove Park Inn. It was great to get a feel of the city and decide what else we wanted to see that week. The next day we visited Biltmore which is a must see if you are in the area. Be sure you don't miss the garden tour while you are there. We trekked to the top of Chimney Rock and explored Craggy Gardens. We visited Mt. Mitchell and Lake Lure. Returning to the house every evening and rocking on the front deck and enjoying the views was as much fun as our adventures throughout the day. There is so much to see and do in the area. If we are lucky enough to return in the future, we will definitely stay at Asheville Mountain Haven. It was fantastic!
We would highly recommend this property. It is 15 minutes from downtown Asheville. Beautiful location with wonderful views of the mountains. The large master suite has it's own private balcony. The house is fabulous and has a lodge feel on the outside with beautiful stonework and oversize deck with seating on 3 sides. The inside of the home is very spacious with all the amenities you would expect. Beautiful driveway and stonework. We can't wait to visit again. The owners were very gracious and respected our privacy. We didn't want to leave....
The home is 14 miles from downtown Asheville; 14 miles from the airport; 10 minutes from Blue Ridge Parkway; 15 minutes from the Biltmore House and Asheville's flourishing restaurant scene. Full grocery store is 4 miles away. Hospital 15 minutes away. Pharmacy 5 miles away. Public library 4 miles away. 20 miles to Chimney Rock, Bat Cave, and Lake Lure. 15 minutes from rafting on the French Broad River. Numerous scenic hiking trails, such as the Mountains to the Sea trail, run throughout the area. Cataloochee Park is within an hour's drive and provides an unbelievable trip back in time to a remote mountain village from the early 1900s along with the opportunity to observe the mountain elk at close hand. One of our favorite spots in the region! Hot Springs natural hot water baths are within an hour's drive. Asheville beer tasting tours are within a fifteen minute drive for those who love Asheville's burgeoning beer scene.
