Nice house. Not very clean and a lot of (dead) bugs. Amazing view!!!!!!!!
We would definitely go back if we could!!
Our family anticipated seeing the property at its worst in Winter. However, we were all in awe, from the first drive in with the house on the hill and the clouds mirrored in the pond. Although the temps were in the 40's and 50's, we spent much time relaxing on the porch, with the boys and their poppy flying planes in the field and trekking around the pond. The light and shadows on the mountains were truly spectacular.
Yes, we love nature and are willing to sacrifice a little interior luxury for a majestic view, and a home reminiscent of my grandma's house, which also brought wonderful memories. The kitchen was on the smaller side and if you like to cook big meals, you might want to bring an electric skillet or pot and be prepared to bring paper plates, etc. and/or to wash dishes the old fashioned way. Burnsville does have several great restaurants, Garden Deli and Snap Dragon are two that come to mind.
None of this got in our way of a wonderful vacation as the interior was toasty, no drafts, yet we also hope to return when the leaves are on the trees, flowers in bloom and fireflies in the fields.
My family visited in late March and had a wonderful time. We had great weather and spent the majority of the time outside between the front porch and down by the pond and in the parks. It was a little early in the season. The owner did warn us about that when we booked but it fit our schedule and we went for it. We are glad we did! We had a relaxing visit and fun time with our children. We hiked several trails and visited Mt. Mitchell State Park. We also spent an afternoon and evening in Asheville. We ate most meals at the home and found the kitchen to be suitably stocked. There is not dishwasher but that was not an issue for us.
I would recommend this house for children past the toddler/baby stage as the stairs are bit steep. Our early elementary aged children were fine and had zero issues navigating the stairs. They loved checking out the ponds and looking for critters in the stream. We enjoyed relaxing in the front yard with the beautiful views of the mountains. We have recommended to others and would visit again.
We enjoyed our stay at White Oak Knoll especially the mountain views from the front porch and walks around the ponds. This quaint farm house is the perfect setting to relax and take in natures beauty. During our stay, we visited Linville Falls, Mt. Mitchell and Blowing Rock. Many thanks to the owners for sharing their wonderful home with us.
Greatly enjoyed our weekend at this beautiful cozy cottage. We had 3 couples and had a very relaxing weekend. Shared cooking and cleaning responsibilities. Went on a long hilly bike ride right there in the neighborhood for about 2 hours and got in a great workout. Traffic was not bad at all!
In response to other reviews we shared the dishwashing responsibilities so was not bad at all. The stairs to the upstairs are not what I would call easy to negotiate but we senior citizens were able go up and down without much problem. A rail would help but is not absolutely necessary. Thoroughly enjoyed our time and look forward to returning.
We rented this house and found the stairs going to the bedrooms were not safe with no handrails for the elderly or little ones causing upstairs to be off limits. We called the owners on arrival and requested our monies back . We still have not heard from them. There is no dishwasher also. Also old baseboard heaters that get hot. We were disappointed that the owners have not responded back . Anyone traveling with young children, elderly, or handicapped individuals would not be able to use upstairs bedrooms safely. Also owners do not respond to complaints.
