The RETRO RETREAT is ONE OF A KIND at the Lake! Fully renovated while keeping the touches of the 60's in place, this reverse 1 1/2 story Ranch Style Lake Home was the office of the "Real Inn Resort" on Shawnee Bend One up until 1970. Located on the West side of the lake in Sunrise Beach at Davey Hollow Cove (11.5 mm), the RETRO RETREAT is the perfect location for your lake adventures.
The RETRO RETREAT is a unique property offering 2 separate but connected living spaces for your group. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom while the downstairs apartment has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom. A great way to vacation with your group by being together but still having privacy with your living space.
Upstairs at the RETRO RETREAT you'll enter the home through the beautiful screened in porch. You'll notice the cool 60's decor and the open and spacious living area with 2 couches and funky floor seating to accommodate your group. Take a moment to look at the vintage postcards and maps that have been enlarged and hung on the walls to bring the vintage feel of the lake to your stay. The massive stone fireplace is original to the house and made from local Gunther sandstone. Next you'll see the modern version of a throw back and very comfortable dining area for 6 (with space to seat up to 8), vintage buffet and a wall mounted Internet ready HD flat screen TV with cable and a Blu-Ray player. WIFI goes all the way to the dock. The 8' sliding glass door is original to the house and offers amazing views of the lake from inside and outside the house. You'll love eating in this space.
The RETRO RETREAT upstairs kitchen is a cooks dream. The L-shaped layout has custom hickory cabinets, stainless steel appliances including a 5 burner natural gas standard/convection oven, refrigerator with ice and water through the door, dishwasher and microwave oven. There's a funky stainless steel restaurant work table that functions as a super fun island. It's perfect for lake chefs who will also find a 4 slice toaster, Keuring coffee maker and Fiestaware dishes for plating their creations. There's plenty of pots and pans, utensils and glassware for your lake dining as well.
Continuing to explore upstairs at the RETRO RETREAT you'll find 3 fully renovated bedrooms (all with ceiling fans) and the bathroom. Down the hall, the lake side master bedroom on your right features a comfy Queen size platform bed (linens provided) with lots of inviting pillows to rest your head on. You'll enjoy the HD wall mounted flat screen TV, 6' original sliding glass door with access to the shaded deck, vintage dresser and an ample closet to store your clothes once you've unpacked. Vintage postcards & maps bring the vintage feel of the lake to your stay. Across the hall is the 2nd bedroom located on the street side of the house. This room has another comfy Queen size platform bed (linens provided) with lots of pillows, 2 vintage dressers and a large closet to store your clothing. A comfy retro side chair is ready to relax in or read a book. Kids of all ages will love the 3rd bedroom/bunk room with the oversize bunk bed. It has 2 twin beds (linens provided) with wall mounted reading lights and plugs for pads & phones next to each bed. Relax, play or sleep in the comfortable nook across from the bunks with its foam sofa that makes out to a queen size bed if needed. Across the hall is the sleek and modern bathroom with plenty of drawers in the cabinet to hold your personal items, good lighting and a great walk-in shower with a window. You'll love to open the window and take in the fresh air while showering. Bath towels, hand towels and washcloths are provided.

Other modern appliances include a toaster, Braun coffee maker, and microwave. Plenty of pots and pans, utensils, glassware and dishes are all ready for your use. Super fun stainless steel eating bar with black vinyl swivel stools keeps the retro vibe going.
Downstairs of the RETRO RETREAT has a comfortable open floor plan in the living area with plenty of seating on the sofa and loveseat. You'll enjoy great views of the lake from the original 8' sliding glass door and the fireplace is made from Gunther Sandstone just like the one upstairs. Enjoy watching the 37" wall mounted flat screen TV with cable and blueray player with Vudu. WIFI goes all the way to the dock. Games, books and videos are waiting for you to enjoy.
Down the hall is the bedroom (with ceiling fan) with a comfy Queen bed (linens provided) with lots of inviting pillows to rest your head on. Even the furniture reminds you of the swinging 60's with plenty of room to unpack and store your bathing suits and shorts in the retro dresser or large closet. There are sun shades and commercial fans to add to your comfort on the those warmer summer days. A great dining and play spot for kids is the 6 foot table and folding chairs for 4 on the screened porch. You'll be ready to jump in the lake on the covered dock from the big swim/sunbathing platform. Two kayaks (with oars and life jackets) are ready for exploring the cove and surrounding area. The dock is located in deep water Davey Hollow Cove. No boat slip is available but watercraft up to 28 feet can be tied to the side of the dock (don't forget to bring your bumpers!).

We are John and Debra Romoser and we retired in September 2013 from our careers in Austin, Texas. We bought a brand spanking new 40 foot Motorhome and with our beloved dachshund, Oscar, set out to explore the country. We lived in it full-time for the first year and decided to get cracking on the retirement house we wanted to purchase at Lake of the Ozarks so we could work on it while we weren't traveling. John's grandparents had a lake house on the Big Niangua arm in Camdenton and he spent the summers of his youth here at the lake. We knew we wanted to have our retirement home at the Lake of the Ozarks so we got serious last year in our home search. Deb tells John everyday "Thank You!" for bringing us to the Lake of the Ozarks because she loves it so much.
John grew up in Indiana, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas but always loved Lake of the Ozarks the best. He spent his 30 year career in law enforcement in Austin, Texas and was looking forward to a slower pace in retirement. Debra grew up in North Dakota, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey and Texas. Debra retired from a career in printing and sales. Both our Dad's worked for IBM, which at that time stood for "I've been moved". Maybe those early moves planted the seed of travel when we retired.
We have 3 grown children: 2 daughters, 1 son and 2 granddaughters. They are still in Austin and we look forward to their visits.
The first trip we took in our Motorhome was to Key West, Florida. We really love spending time in places like Destin, FL, Savannah, GA, Asheville, NC, (the Biltmore Estate is on Deb's top 5 list), Memphis and Nashville, TN and Texas of course. We're always planning the next trip!
We love to work on the house when we're not traveling. We've done a complete renovation of the downstairs apartment, landscaped the yard and completed the upstairs renovation in 2016. But we do make time to boat, kayak and swim too!
Welcome to our home! We want you to enjoy it as much as we do.
Debra and John Romoser purchased this house in 2014
John spent many summers at the lake when he was growing up as his grandparents had a lake house in Camdenton on the Big Niangua arm. John shared the area with Debra and we quickly chose Lake of the Ozarks as our retirement spot. We have found the lake to be super friendly and our neighborhood very welcoming. We have really enjoyed being on the west side, or quiet side, of the lake and we have easy access to everything from Highway 54 to Highway 5. Sunrise Beach is such a nice change of pace from city life and we're just a short drive from Osage Beach, Camdenton and Laurie with all the amenities they have to offer.
Great location in Sunrise Beach in Davey Hollow Cove!
This house is the former office of the "Real Inn Resort" from the 1960's. A few of the original cabins remain from the resort (nicely updated of course) and our property has the original boat launch. The home has been completely updated and available for rental.
Bikini Pier is just across the cove for your boat or jet ski rentals and gas if you bring your own.
Easy access by land or water to all parts of the lake. From Bagnell Dam to the Hurricane Deck to the Big Niangua you are just minutes away.
Plenty of parking for cars and trailers.

We had such a great time on our visit, the view is gorgeous! So glad we chose to stay here! Thank you John and Debra for being such great hosts! The "retro retreat" is too cute for words and immaculate! We loved our "ghost tour" at the Missouri State Pen and our hikes at HaHa Tonka State Park during our visit, there is so much to do in the surrounding areas just not enough time to get it all done! I also discovered I love to Kayak, would've never known, thanks so much for letting us use them, the lake was so peaceful and still at sunset.
We stayed at Debra & John's Retro Retreat with our two young girls and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is great and the provided "extras" such as air mattresses and can coolies came in handy as well. Basically it's set up with everything a typical house with full kitchen would have so if you're thinking of bringing something from home, think again because they most likely have it there already (you could tell it was very thought out).
The apartment is in the basement of their house so you could hear them walking around upstairs at times and they did have some other people over on the porch one night but it was not a bother at all. Just wanted to mention that in case it matters to you. Hopefully we did not keep them up at night with our little ones!
Overall it was a great value. We highly recommend it and would stay again.
This is truly a hidden gem. It's in a nice quiet cove, and the owners are very hospitable and welcoming. The apartment itself was very clean, and it's apparent that Debra puts her heart and soul into this endeavor. We were able to use their kayaks for a nice excursion on the cove, and they also shared their life vests and dock. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice quiet Lake retreat with convenient access to the water.

We were able to use their kayaks for a nice excursion on the cove, and they also shared their life vests and dock. Be prepared and bring your own food though, because it is a bit of a drive to find anywhere to eat. We did drive to Bagnell Dam and ate at Stewarts, which Debra recommended. The food was great, the prices reasonable, and the portions HUGE! A little restaurant called RJ's in Camdenton was also a culinary treat- great food, welcoming atmosphere and prompt service. We had a wonderful hike in HaHa Tonka State Park. The highlight of our stay was the parasailing with Paradise Parasail. We were there during the slow time, and the parasailing was awesome! I would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice quiet Lake retreat with convenient access to the water.
Very cozy beautiful place. The owners were very welcoming and if we needed anything they made clear to let them know. The kids loved swimming off the dock. We loved eating at Captain Rons but make sure you bring your bathing suits.
Not only did we love the "retro retreat" which was a perfect, clean and fun location for our family...John and Debra were wonderful hosts, catering to our needs, happy to answer questions and helping us to ensure we had a great vacation. We'll definitely be back...great residence, great location, great hosts and great dock to use !!
