About Jeff DuPilka

The cottage and surrounding property have been in the DuPilka family since 1957 when my parents, Joseph and Doris purchased it. Over the year they were able to acquire some additional lots for the property is protected from development.

I have been coming to Bear Lake since I was 5 years olds. If I had my way, I would be here all the time but, hey, a guy has to work, right. I do try to come up as many weekends during the summer season that I can and I also am up quite a lot in the winter. The area is beautiful with a fresh, clean snowfall.

Why Jeff DuPilka chose Bear Lake

I was five years old when my folks purchased the property in 1957. The original purchase consisted of 300 feet on the lake which included two cottages and a garage. The cottage you are in now and one other which we called the Bunkhouse. The bunkhouse was remodeled into the house next door in the early 1970’s.

This cottage was originally as big as the kitchen area and was actually moved here on two very large cedar logs approximately 36 feet long. The logs are still in place under the structure today.

What makes this cottage unique

Lake frontage, proximity to cities, both big and small in in Michigan, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Detroit, Manistee, Holland, Big Rapids, Flint. I have had quite a few renters from Indiana over the last couple of years as well as a couple of people from Florida. Bear Lake is a draw for people from all over that want to be able to unwind, relax and enjoy themselves.

Bear Lake is an all sports lake and activities on the water include, fishing, boating, skiing, swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing and just about any water activity you can think of. Lots to do in and around the water. The cottage has boat dock access. As me about pontoon and kayak rental if you have an interest in either of those activities.

Fire pit and fire wood available on the property for your enjoyment.

Very clean and accomodating!

  • 5 of 5

We had great fun fishing on the pontoon! We caught perch, walleye and large mouth bass! We rented at the last minute for a little fall getaway! Loved the old games and was close to many sand dune walking trails. Exlpored the coast of beautiful lake Michigan. The water and beaches are just gorgeous! The outside of the cottage and the landscape could use a little TLC and the kitchen could use some updating but we would for sure go back! Jeff was so very nice and again the inside was very clean! Thank you Jeff for a wonderful fall getaway! Would like to go back in the summer as well!

Nice quiet getaway!

We spent most of the week on the pontoon fishing. We enjoyed the relaxation and everything was what we expected. Jeff made sure all my questions were answered and we had everything we needed.

Great location!

  • 3 of 5

It's a lovely place on the lake...or should I say: could've been. First and foremost, Jeff, the owner...great and very helpful guy! But, common Jeff! You have GOT to get the old kitchen cabinets out of the house! The old furniture, sawing machines, books and bookshelves and plain clutter out of there! Oh! And don't forget the old beat up patio chairs. Good 75% of the cottage is NICE! Bathroom and bedroom is great. Put in a door between living room/kitchen and the bedroom for privacy reasons. And did I say PERFECT LOCATION!!! Finish it, post some good pics and get some real good traffic going thru your place next season. I'm a guy and I adore this lakefront location, as long I can swim in the lake (and swimming was great) I'm careless about accommodation. But, I'm a married man, wherever I go my lady-wife come with me and my job is to keep her happy! I hope you'd understand. Hope to see you again next year.

Sincerely, Jack.

We loved it Completely!! There is only one thing that would have made it better. That one thing is if we could have brought our small dog. We will stay again!!

Cottage was fantastic !

  • 5 of 5

My family and I loved our vacation. The cottage more than fulfilled our needs. The cottage was stocked with just about everything we needed, and had great character.

The lake was beautiful, and the fishing was excellent.

We caught pan fish, large and smallmouth bass, yellow perch, pike and walleye !

The owner of the property was first class all the way.

My family is already planning a week at the property next summer. We cant wait to get back !

Thank you,

The Eigemanns.

Owner's Response: Guys, Thanks a lot for taking the time post your comments on the cottage. As I tell everyone, I was so lucky that my parents gave me the opportunity to stay at Bear Lake. I'm delighted to share the experience, that's why I try to keep the cost of rentals reasonable. I appreciate your business and hope to see you again next year. Thanks, Jeff
